Flaming Vulcan Kerwin x Blazing Fury Hades Margaret River Orchid Group The June meeting of the Margaret River Orchid Group was held at the home of Alan and Dianne Birch in Busselton. Everyone explored their extensive garden and shadehouses. Alan Birch and some of his orchids A selection of members benched orchids from Margaret River June meeting.

IAN GILMORE gave a very informative talk at the June meeting on the flasking process and how we get seedings. It was very interesting to see the stages of a plant, from seed to full plant. Ian is to continue this presentation and discuss propagating orchids from flasks at July meeting. Membership Fees are now due for 2018 Our records show that there are outstanding membership fees due. The Committee have decided that any members who are not financial, will no longer receive the Orchid Talk by email or post. Please advise our Treasurer if you have made your payment directly to the Bank. Membership fees for Family membership $20.00 and single membership $20.00 per annum. Please pay at next meeting, or forward to Treasurer, Andrea Shine, PO Box 1074, Bunbury, WA 6239 Bank details for direct debit. Payment can be made directly into this BANKWEST account. CLUB VOUCHERS Please note that the Committee advises that Club Vouchers that have been presented as prizes from Shows, can be used for purchase of goods from the Sales Table and also for the payment of membership. If any members receive vouchers from Ezi-Grow Orchids, and are unable to pick up their prize, Ian Gilmore has offered to assist. Sales Table: A reminder that all your orchid needs can be obtained through the Club on meeting mornings. If you need to pre-order any orchid bark or Perlite, please contact Norm Martin. All other supplies such as pots, fertilisers, orchid clips, hanging pots, etc will be available on meeting morning. Orchid bark supplies will be stored and available from the Club s shed in Halifax. Please contact Norm Martin to arrange any purchases and pick up from Shed. Please note that the pickup is at Norm s discretion. SHOWS AUTUMN / WINTER SHOW Dates confirmed as Friday 27 th to Sunday 29 th July. Venue Bunbury Centre Point Shopping Centre Entries for the show to be presented for judging on Friday the 27 th afternoon. Can members please put time aside over the weekend to man the show stand. A roster will be discussed at the July meeting. MORLEY CHALLENGE Saturday 4- Sunday 5th August. Workshop and display. Setup on Saturday morning. Dinner on Saturday night to be paid by Club for helpers at setup. Theme this year is open. Clubs to choose their own theme. Bunbury Orchid Society is combining with Margaret River Orchid Society for this event.

SPRING SHOW September 8 th & 9th Venue is the Italian Club, Bunbury. Dates: Saturday 8 th & Sunday 9 th September, set up on Friday 7 th Sept from 2.00-3.00 p.m., entries to be brought to venue 3.00 6.00 p.m.. Judging commences at 6.00 p.m. Assistance is required with set up on Friday 7 th. Please contact President Bill Dear if you can assist. More information on coming newsletters. 24 th World Orchid Conference 2023 The 24th WOC is planned to be held in conjunction with the 8th International Orchid Conservation Congress. The venue will be the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 3rd to 1th September 2023. At our June meeting, Bruce Larson and Ken James provided a very interesting presentation of the successful bid process which was presented in Equador in 2017. The suggestion was made that southwest groups join together to present one combined display. This would include Bunbury, Margaret River and Albany. This suggestion to be discussed between committees to see if this is a viable and more economic option for these clubs. Money raised from sales and Shows to go to the relevant Club to assist with their display and transport requirements. The World Orchid Conference website to be established shortly, details when it becomes available. JULY MEETING July meeting will be our winter SOUP meeting with a variety of hot soups brought in by our members. Members may wish to bring their own mug/cup. Thanks to Kym for organising this.
