World Tourism Organisation World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is the most widely recognised and the leading international organisation in travel and tourism today. It is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It serves as a global forum for tourism policy and a practical source of tourism know-how. With its headquarters in Madrid, Spain the World Tourism Organisation plays a central and decisive role in promoting development of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, with the aim of contributing to economic development, international understanding, peace prosperity and universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Regional Tourism Organisations For Example The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is a mix governmental and non-governmental bodies that work together to promote tourism industry professionalism in the Asia and Pacific area. European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) this is a regional organisation with a specialised interest in tourism and concerned with cooperation and co-ordination of European airlines. www.ecac-ceac.org

National Tourism Organizations Virtually every country in the world has a national body responsible for tourism. It can be part of a ministry, a constituted part of a government department or an organisation with a separate legal status. Generally the role of a NTO will be to ensure appropriate development and promotion of a nation as a tourism destination. This can include the following functions: research information and promotion within the country overseas promotional activities international relations development of tourist areas overall tourism policy and promotion in supporting key tourism interests in a time of financial crisis

UN World Tourism Organization or UNWTO

Functions of UNWTO World Tourism Organization promotes and studies international tourism. Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. More than 900 million travellers visit beaches, mountains, national parks, historic sites, festivals, museums, worship centers, and countless other attractions every year. Tourism is one of the world's most important industries and creates millions of jobs. The UNWTO is particularly devoted to promoting tourism in developing countries and has vowed to accomplish some of the UN's Millennium Development Goals. The UNWTO reminds travellers to be informed and tolerant in order to truly understand different cultures.

Pacific Asia Travel Organization

Activities of PATA This was formed to develop the Pacific region as a place for holidays. It also promotes tourism in South East Asia, including India. Its activities are mainly in the United States, which supplies a lot of the world's tourist traffic. Like most travel organizations, PATA helps develop destinations for tourism by providing advice, plans travel schemes, and provides information - especially through its journal Pacific Travel News. Governments as well as other tourist industry plays can be members of PATA.

Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development

Functions of OECD Related to Tourism OECD Tourism document on Trends and Policies provides comparative knowledge, both policy and data, through thematic chapters and countryspecific policy and statistical profiles. The report highlights key tourism policy developments, focuses on issues that rank high on the policy agenda in the field of tourism and provides a broad overview and interpretation of tourism trends in the OECD area and beyond. European Travel Commission

Indian Ocean Tourism Organization IOTO

Purpose of IOTO Founded in 1995, this organization seeks to encourage tourism in the Indian Ocean region. It markets the Indian Ocean region as a unique destination, helps members cooperate and coordinate policies, promotes better transport services between members, encourages better services and helps reduce travel barriers.

International Air Transport Association IATA

Activities of IATA IATA is an organization of almost all international air carriers - it aims to represent and serve the world airline industry. It helps organize safe and convenient international air travel for people as well as freight. IATA tries to standardize tickets, baggage checks, accounting procedures; it is also involved in industry support, environmental issues, consumer issues, regulation, legal monitoring. Through these, it links the several air carriers into a unified service system. Thus, International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade association for the world s airlines, representing some 240 airlines or 84% of total air traffic. IATA supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.

International Civil Aviation Organization : ICAO

What is ICAO? ICAO is an organization of governments joined to promote safety and efficiency in civil aviation worldwide. It formulates and implements standards and practices, laws concerning civil aviation, navigation plans etc. The ICAO Council adopts standards and recommended practices concerning air navigation, its infrastructure, flight inspection, prevention of unlawful interference, and facilitation of border-crossing procedures for international civil aviation. ICAO defines the protocols for air accident investigation followed by transport safety authorities in countries signatory to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention).

More on British Tourism Office VisitBritain is the name used by the British Tourist Authority, the tourist board of Great Britain incorporated under the Development of Tourism Act 1969. Under memoranda of understanding with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and the offshore islands of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, VisitBritain also hosts information on those territories on its website. VisitBritain was created in April 2003 to market Britain to the rest of the world and to promote and develop the visitor economy of England. Singapore Tourism Board

Activities of Singapore Tourism Board The Singapore Tourism Board is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, tasked to promote the country's tourism industry. STPB actively promoted the development of infrastructure, including the building of hotels and tourist attractions such as the Jurong Bird Park and Sentosa which is now a popular resort island for both tourists and local visitors. The board also markets the city as a convention venue and organises events to attract visitors. In the 1980s, several historic and culturally significant areas such as Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam were earmarked for preservation. These places express Singapore's cultural diversity and became popular tourist destinations.

The United States Travel and Tourism Advisory Board

Functions of the UDS Tourism Board The United States Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (Board) serves as the advisory body to the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to the travel and tourism industry in the United States. The Board advises the Secretary on government policies and programs that affect the U.S. travel and tourism industry, offers counsel on current and emerging issues, and provides a forum for discussing and proposing solutions to industry-related problems.

SA Tourism is the marketing agency responsible for taking the destination to market whilst the department is focused on the development of an enabling environment through the development of appropriate policies and regulations to ensure that tourism as a sector delivers on governments priorities of job creation, poverty alleviation and increased contribution to the country's GDP.

Tourism Malaysia has grown by leaps and bounds with its focus on promoting Malaysia at the domestic and international levels. It aims to market Malaysia as a premier destination of excellence in the region. Its vision is to make the tourism industry a prime contributor to the socio-economic development of the nation. With the growth of world tourism and Malaysia's potential as a tourism destination, has contributed to the change and focus in the country's tourism sector. It has helped generate substantive foreign exchange earnings and employment. Tourism Malaysia now has 34 overseas and 11 marketing representative offices.
