THE INDIAN ECONOMIC ASSOCIATION Indian Economic Association (IEA) is the oldest, the largest and the only national association of professional economists in India. Established in 1917 by Prof. C. J. Hamilton in Calcutta, it has now 5000+ members of various categories from all walks of life and from all parts of India and abroad. This Association is proud of having as its President, the Nobel laureate Prof. Amartya Sen who was the then President of the International Economic Association. Among its former presidents, it has renowned scholars like R. K. Mukherjee, C.N. Vakil, D.R. Gadgil, J. P. Niyogi, V.K.R.V. Rao, B.R. Shenoy, A.K. Dasgupta, B.K. Madan, S. K. Basu, D.T. Presently, the Senior Vice President of the World Bank, Prof. Kaushik Basu, is the President of the 98 th IEA Annual Conference. He is also the president of International Economic Association. The unique distinction of this Association is that it has organized so far 97 Annual Conferences and now its 98 th Annual Conference is being hosted by Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad in collaboration with the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad. During its 97 years of existence, IEA has been organizing annual conference every year with special/ memorial lectures, symposia and current topic sessions, keynote addresses and technical sessions. His Excellency, the Hon ble President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee has agreed in principle to inaugurate the 98 th IEA Annual Conference. In the past, His Excellency Shree Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the then President of India; Shree Morarji Desai and Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Ministers of India inaugurated Annual Conferences. Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Begumpet, Hyderabad, is hosting the 98 th IEA Annual Conference on the campus of The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana State. We feel immense pleasure and privilege in extending cordial invitation to all the esteemed members to the Conference. 2

CENTRE FOR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL STUDIES Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) was established as an autonomous body registered under the Societies Act 1980, by the State Government. Appreciating its role in the promotion of research and training, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) recognized it as a national institute in 1986 and included CESS in its network of institutions. It is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology. CESS has recently become the member of Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU). The Centre has been receiving maintenance grants from the Telangana State Government and ICSSR; and project specific grants / fees from the other state governments, central government, Planning Commission, Reserve Bank of India, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, UNICEF, Jamsetji Tata Trust, Ford Foundation, European Union and other International Organizations. It has been approved by the Director General of Income Tax (Exemptions), Calcutta under the rule 6 of the Income Tax Rules for the purpose of Section 35 (1) (iii) of the Income Tax Act 1961.CESS is registered under Section 6(1) (a) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 1976 to accept contributions from the external agencies for research work. It has also been accepting the endowments / contributions from the individuals and institutions to expand its research activities. Sponsored research and Centre's own prioritised research have been judiciously blended to ensure the best utilisation of the research capabilities of the Centre. The Centre also engages in collaborative research that provides an opportunity to interact with eminent national and international social scientists. The Centre is situated in the heart of Hyderabad between Ameerpet - Greenlands road, in a five acre lush green campus in the premises of the Nizamiah Observatory Campus at Begumpet. The main building has an administrative wing, faculty rooms, seminar halls, lecture halls, a cartographic laboratory, and computer unit. There are also separate buildings for Library, Auditorium, Visiting Faculty, Guest house and Director s Residence. There is a canteen, catering to the campus community and guests, offering simple food at moderate prices. CONFERENCE VENUE The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University Campus (PJTSAU) Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana State-500 030 All the proceedings of the 98 th IEA Annual Conference from inauguration to valedictory will be held on the above campus during 27 th - 29 th December 2015. 4 ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be provided in and around the same campus.

Hyderabad:Historical City of India Hyderabad is the capital city of Telangana State and is home to more than 7 million people. It is the fifth largest metropolis of India, known for its rich history and culture, a valuable and varied heritage in arts, crafts and dance. The city is over 400 years old and is noted for its natural beauty, mosques and minarets, temples, museums, monuments, bazaars, bridges, hills and lakes. A multitude of influences have shaped the character of the city. Its palaces and buildings, houses and tenements, gardens and streets have a history and an architectural uniqueness of their own, which makes Hyderabad a city of enchantment. Modern-day Hyderabad Metropolis comprises the three cities of Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad. Hyderabad exemplifies progressive and committed governance, successful public and private partnerships in a variety of sectors. HITEC City, HITEX, Genome Valley, ICICI Knowledge Park, the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, state-of-the-art International Airport, and the Outer Ring Road demonstrate the state's commitment to create worldclass infrastructure. In short, Hyderabad has become an important destination for world class entrepreneurs. HOW TO REACH HYDERABAD Hyderabad is well connected by air, train and road with the rest of the country and globe. There are direct air services from all major cities of India. It has well connected railway network to different cities of India and has three important railway stations: Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda. WEATHER During December, Hyderabad is little bit cool and quite pleasant and temperature ranges between 15 0 C and 20 0 C. It is advised to come with warm clothing. ARRIVAL AND RECEPTION Conference will be formally inaugurated in the morning of 27 th Dec. 2015 in the auditorium of The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad. The University is about 20 km from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, 24 km from Secunderabad railway station, 15 km from Hyderabad (Nampally) railway station and 22 km from Kacheguda railway station. We will provide local transportation facilitites to all the outstation participants. We will arrange help desks at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Ground Level Exit Point), 1 st platform side of Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda railway stations from 26 th December noon onwards. To avoid inconvenience, delegates should inform their arrival programme in the registration forms. The reception committee will make transport arrangements for the registered delegates from the place of arrival to the place of accommodation / conference venue. You are requested to directly contact the IEA 98 th Conference help desk upon your arrival. However, the delegates have an option to come directly to the Conference Venue. 5

REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATION Hyderabad is a tourist place and last week of December is peak season for domestic and international tourists. It is very difficult to make boarding and lodging arrangements for the spot- registered delegates and hence no spot registration request will be entertained. You are therefore advised to send the duly filled in form so as to reach the Local Organizing Secretary latest by 10 th Dec. 2015 to ensure your smooth participation in the Conference. No registration form received after 10 th Dec. 2015 will be entertained. Registration fee : IEA Members : Rs. 1500/- Accompanying spouse : Rs. 1500/- Note: One or two children only up to the age of 10 can accompany the members free of charge without any extra bedding. No request for accommodation for children above 10 years will be entertained. In case both husband and wife are IEA members, children below the age of 10 will be accommodated in the same room with parents. Accommodation will be available only from the noon of 26/12/2015 to the morning of 30/12/2015. The Conference kit will be given only to the IEA member delegate and not to the accompanying spouse unless he/ she too is an IEA member. Note that in case any member is accompanied by more number of persons than spouse and two children below the age of ten, or than what was specified in the registration form, the host institution will not be responsible for boarding and lodging of the member and accompanying persons, and the member would be required to make alternative arrangements. Further, under no circumstances would the spouse and children be allowed into the conference halls. The duly filled in registration form along with crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of "98 th Annual Conference of IEA" payable at Hyderabad should reach the Local Organising Secretary latest by 10 th December, 2015 (Cheques will not be accepted). Those who wish to make arrangements on their own are requested to mention in the registration form that Accommodation / Local Transport is not required. Also note that the members are expected to have at least 60% attendance in various sessions to be entitled to obtain conference participation certificate. For paper presenters, presentation certificate will be issued only by Chair/ Co- Chair/ Rapporteur of the said session. The co-authors too need to be physically present to be entitled to obtain presentation certificate.
