Morris News April 2017 Page 2 Page 2 Grounds By Greg Penny I have been requested to turn the outside water on in the yard prior to the standard date of April 15th. I hope to have all areas on by the weekend if the weather cooperates. The lawn tent should be up within the next few weeks, closer to the end of the month. I'm looking for volunteers to help manicure around the club grounds. Spring is here and with the flowers, comes the WEEDS. If anyone knows what a weed looks like, you're more than welcome to help pull 'em! There are many areas around the grounds that could use some cleanup after winters' wrath. Wishing members a Happy Easter and Passover. House By Dino Esposito Maintenance By John Fusco Entertainment Committee HAPPY SPRING!!! We survived another winter and are happy to have the nice weather upon us. The restaurant and bar have been becoming busier and we suggest calling ahead for reservations to ensure adequate accommodations. It s great seeing everyone enjoying the club and taking advantage of the fine dining. We are booking a lot of parties and have so many fun things planned ahead. There are flyers attached for the most recent events you may want to make reservations for. We are excited to announce that for the first time, the Morris is having a Bingo Night. It will be on May 5 th so we appropriately called it Bingo de Mayo. There will be prizes, raffles and lots of fun Mexican fare. In order to make it a success, we are hoping that members will donate unopened, new gifts or gift certificates to add to our list of great raffles. Such items as toys, home items, jewelry, electronics or any other item that would make a nice gift is appreciated. Also, if anyone would like to help out the night of the event, that would be a welcomed help as well. Please drop off any donated items to Michael before Wednesday, April 19 th in the restaurant. This event will be considered a fundraiser to assist in purchasing much needed building equipment, sand for the beach and some patio furniture to help make this coming summer season the best yet! Morris News April 2017 Page 3 Page 3 Fleet Captain By Gregg Manjorin Sunny days and the sailors in the yard are back, a great sign of the impending summer boating season. We are hosting a safe boating course for the Society for the Education of American Sailors (SEAS). The 8-hour course will be split into two 4-hour sessions on April 30 and May 7. America's Boating Course is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the USCG. It meets the requirements of all of the states. The course will run from 10 am to 2 pm and the buffet should be open. SEAS pays $65 but Morris members and their guests receive a $20 discount and pay $45. Text, instruction and exam included. Since I must order texts, space is limited. Contact Ahsail@aol.com to reserve space. TBD: We will be presenting a 2-hour seminar entitled Partner in Command. This will be presented by ladies for ladies and outlines things that the second person should be aware of while boating. This is not a hands-on course but rather presents in an organized fashion many of the things that you should be able to do should the operator of the boat be in distress. We are seeking a female to discuss powerboat concerns. Contact Ahsail@aol.com to volunteer. Be on the safe side: Last year seven Morris members formed up and drove to CI Harbor for the annual Blessing of the Fleet. This event is sponsored by the City Island Sail and Power Squadron and the American Legion. Everyone is welcome. This year it is scheduled for June 25th and we should leave the Morris mooring field around noon.
