2017 INFORMATION & ARRIVAL BOOKLET Dear SMAS Parents & Campers, On behalf of the California State University, Stanislaus and the Department of Music, welcome to the 2017 Summer Music at Stanislaus camp! We are very excited to bring you another summer filled with music and are extremely proud of the program we have put together this year! Info & Arrival Packet Page!2 INFORMATION & GUIDELINES ARRIVAL INFORMATION Any student arriving by bus, plane, or train must phone the camp director s office, (209) 667-3533, at least one week before camp to make arrangements to be picked up by camp staff. The closest point of arrival by train is Denair. The closest airport is Modesto, and the bus station is in Turlock. MEDICAL INFORMATION Medical information must be either sent to the camp office before the beginning of each session or brought to camp at the time of registration. Parents will be expected to cover the costs of medical treatment and/or medication not covered by insurance. Medications should be in medi-paks, which bear the camper s name and identify each time of dosage. These will be turned in to the camp office at registration. As a legal requirement, all medications must be in the original packaging or bottles that identify the prescribing physician, the name of the medication, the dosage, and the frequency of administration. Be sure to bring enough medication to last the entire time the camper is at camp. EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION Camp Office (during camp dates only 9am-5pm) (209) 667-3533. After hours please use the Residence Life Village phone number which will be handed out at registration. YOUR CAMP MAIL ADDRESS Student Name Senior/Junior Session SUMMER MUSIC AT STANISLAUS Stan State Music Department 1 University Circle Turlock, CA 95382 HOUSING Resident students will be staying in the Stan State Residence Life Village. This complex is composed of mini-apartments that house four students each. Each apartment has its own bathroom, living room, refrigerators, and small microwaves. STUDENT DISCIPLINE No student may leave campus at any time unless permission is given IN WRITING by a parent/guardian. Students who are commuting must remain on campus for the duration of the day. Resident campers driving to camp must leave their cars in the parking lot for the week. Their car keys will be held by the camp director. A parking pass will need to be purchased in advance. NO ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, OR DRUGS ALLOWED ON CAMPUS. Please note medications being taken on the health form. BEHAVIOR CLAUSE We encourage campers to have fun and enjoy their time at camp. However, to ensure the campers safety and enjoyment, inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Inappropriate behavior consists of: running or rollerblading in the halls, rough-housing, excessive yelling or noise, foul language, or any other activity that could place you or any other camper or counselor in harms way. A reminder: all cell phones must be turned off during rehearsals and concerts.

2017 Info & Arrival Packet Page!3 EXPULSION A student will be immediately expelled from camp for the following reasons: Use or possession of illegal drugs or alcohol. Failing to be in assigned housing at required time. Driving during camp without permission. Leaving campus. Harassment (sexual or otherwise) or Bullying Being in a dorm room or living room with a member of the opposite sex for ANY reason A student who fails to follow these procedures or who causes a disruption of camp rehearsals, classes, or concerts may, after consultation with the camp director, be expelled. NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN IF A STUDENT IS EXPELLED OR VOLUNTARILY LEAVES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ILLNESS (in which case a pro-rated refund will be given) COMMUTER INFORMATION Commuters for either camp are expected to attend rehearsals and classes from 8:30am until 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Lunches are included. Commuters are welcome to stay on campus for evening recreation, but parents are expected to pick campers up by 9:30pm (must provide their own dinner; meals available for purchase at dining hall). Commuters should be picked up at 5:30pm in front of the bridge that leads to the music department in parking lot 3 (see map). Commuters who wish to take part in the evening activities will be notified where to be picked up at check in that day. REGISTRATION INFORMATION ALL STUDENTS (INCLUDING COMMUTERS) - Registration will take place in the center of the residence complex (see directions) between 1:00-2:45pm on Sunday, June 11 for the Junior Session and 1:00pm-2:45pm on Sunday, June 18 for the Senior Session. At this time students will be given their room assignments. Students wishing to room together may email summermusic@csustan.edu or call the camp director at (209) 667-3533. Up to four students may room together. ALL STUDENTS CONCERNED MUST REQUEST THE SAME GROUP. INSTRUMENTAL AUDITIONS Students should have some music prepared for the Sunday afternoon audition. It may be a solo, or a part of band, orchestra, or choral literature they have performed. The prepared musical selection should be no longer than 3 minutes in length and should demonstrate their technical and musical skills to the best of their ability. Scales should also be included. Wind and percussion placements for orchestra will also be made at this time. ALL PERCUSSIONISTS SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN STICKS AND MALLETS. Vocalists are not required to audition. LOCKERS There are a LIMITED number of lockers available to campers. Lockers will be assigned during the Sunday afternoon auditions. I am aware of the risks associated with traveling to/from and participating in this activity, which include but are not limited to physical or psychological injury, pain, suffering, illness, disfigurement, temporary or permanent disability (including paralysis), economic or emotional loss, and/or death. I understand that these injuries or outcomes may arise from my own or other s actions, inaction, or negligence; conditions related to travel; or the condition of the Activity location(s) or facilities. Nonetheless, I assume all related risks, both known or unknown to me, of my participation in this Activity, including travel to, from and during the Activity. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND AGREEMENT I am the parent or legal guardian of the Participant.
