I figure, if a girl wants to be a legend, she should just go ahead and be one.... Calamity Jane Flying R Testimonials After reading the review of the Flying-R-Ranch horse camp located in West Plains, MO (Missouri Ozarks) in the March 2012 Trail Rider magazine, I decided to put it on my horse vacation bucket list. My trail riding buddies and I are always looking for a great riding opportunity, so we decided to try the Flying R for our Fall ride. One of the BEST trail riding vacation decisions we ve made. Everything about the Flying-R-Ranch is five star. Starting with the curb appeal coming in the drive; a pretty view of the hills, cattle grazing and well kept grounds, all add to the horse resort feel. The campground is very clean and well designed for the large rigs. Our group stayed in the bunkhouse (5 motel like rooms). The rooms, while not large, are very clean and serviceable. The food at the restaurant is to die for. The shower house is very clean with plenty of hot water. The stall size is generous, in the shade, well lighted, with free bedding. In addition to the RV sites and bunkhouse, there are also cabins and some tent camping. The camp is located on the North Fork River with the Mark Twain National Forest as the boundary along three sides of the ranch, so the riding is AMAZING. The trails on the ranch are well marked and wide enough for sideby-side riding. Once you enter the forest there are natural markers to help guide the way. There are trails for all riding levels and challenge abilities. The river provides lots of water crossings and adds to the fun for both the riders and the horses. It is difficult to describe the terrain and scenery you ride through. Sometimes you almost felt like you are in the forest primeval. But it is always about the people, and the people running the camp from Terry Carroll, the owner, to the ladies in the office to Chris the chef, to the campground crew define, customer service. The entire staff takes great pride in their work and what they have accomplished in a very short time. From Terry on down the entire staff is very accommodating and will help out in any way possible. It is very refreshing when people love their work and want to share that joy with you. Believe me, you can t be at Flying R and not be happy. I do have to give a big shout out to Chris the chef. The food is truly amazing, creative, portions generous and what you would find at a high-end restaurant. Flying-R-Ranch is #1 on my horse vacation list, and I ve had the opportunity to ride many, many places. I m already planning my next trip back.
