CAMP SWIMMING All campers will have the opportunity to have free swim on scheduled days in the afternoon. We take the safety of our swim program very seriously and will not accept inappropriate behavior in any Community YMCA pool area. Trained lifeguards and camp staff supervise all swim sessions. TEST, MARK, PROTECT We have procedures in place to help keep all children safe. These procedures include testing campers swim abilities, marking them (wrist bands) according to ability and protecting certain swim levels using PFDs (personal flotation devices). TEST Campers will have the opportunity to take the deep water swim test, if they choose to do so, on the first day of each camp week. Deep Water Swim Test Successful completion of the deep water test includes: Continuous, 25-yard freestyle swim (face in the water) Treading water for one minute (head straight up and down and ears above the water) and then turning on back to perform a brief float and swim to the side of the pool. Each camper s name and swim level will be recorded at the Front Desk. This information will be accessible by our membership staff in the event that the camper visits the pool for an open swim session. MARK All campers will be identified for their swim level by a color coded wristband. This band will be given to the camper on Monday, and is expected to remain on the camper s wrist for the remainder of the camp week. PROTECT All campers who have not successfully passed the deep water swim test and wear a red or yellow swim wristband will be REQUIRED to wear a PFD. We do encourage parents to teach their children how to swim. Our lesson program is available year-round for anyone interested in the progressive lessons. Please ask the Front Desk for details on our swim lessons. CAMP CLOTHING Sneakers (closed toe shoes only, no crocs or flip flops), washable play clothes, bathing suit, towel, flip flops (for pool only), camp shirt for trip days. All day and specialty campers receive one, free camp T-shirt to be worn on trip days. Parents will be charged $10 for a new T-shirt. TOYS, ELECTRONICS, PHONES, AND VALUABLES Label all belongings and pack in a personalized bag. The bag and all contents are the responsibility of the camper, not the counselor. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items. The YMCA Camp program carefully selects equipment and play materials to ensure optimum learning experiences and camper safety. We request that toys, cell phones, eletronics, and/or valuables not be brought to camp. If a camper is found to have an unacceptable item in his/her possession during the camp day, the item will be confiscated and placed at the desk of the Camp Director. Any items taken from a camper may be claimed upon pick-up by a parent/guardian. LUNCH/SNACK Please send your child to our program with a non-perishable, nutritious lunch, water bottle (daily), drinks and AM and PM snack. Label your child s lunch bag and other belongings. In the event your child forgets his/her lunch, you will be required to bring a lunch to the camp site on that day. SUNSCREEN Sunscreen must be applied liberally, by parents, BEFORE coming to camp each day. Additionally, aerosol sunscreen must be sent in your camper s backpack so that camp staff may facilitate re-application of sunscreen regularly each camp day. Label your child s sunscreen. Re-application of sunscreen will be scheduled daily mid-morning, after lunch and after camper swim sessions. More frequent re-application will be scheduled during special events/trips where exposure to water/perspiration is increased. CAMPER HYDRATION Campers are required to bring a labeled water bottle every day. It is important that campers drink water often during heat and increased activities done in camp. ALL CAMPERS will be required to drink at regular intervals (every 30 minutes) during the course of the camp day to prevent dehydration.

CAMP TRIPS, FEES, AND TRANSPORTATION All trip admission fees are included in your weekly camp tuition. Day Camp, Little Explorers, LIT, and specialty camp trips or special events will occur each week. ALL campers are required to attend trips and must wear a camp issued T-shirt. Be aware that some trips may not arrive back to the Y between 4-4:30pm. The Y will be notified immediately if the returning campers are delayed for any reason. Campers may bring money to some trips for snack or souvenir purchase. Labeled bag lunches and snacks will be required for trips. HEALTH FORMS AND MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FORMS All children must have a current health & emergency contact form on file. This form must be completed at the time of registration. No camper will be permitted to attend camp without a current form on file. All children who are receiving medicine must have a current signed medicine permission form on file. This form must be on file by your child s first day of camp. All medication to be taken by a camper during the camp day MUST be turned in to the camp director in its original container (with prescription label) to be administered at the prescribed time. No camper is permitted to have over-the-counter or prescription medication in his/her possession at camp. SUPERVISION 1:1/TSS POLICY The Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County is not able to provide 1:1 supervision of any child in our camp programs. If your child requires 1:1 supervision, it will be your responsibility to inform the YMCA and provide that service for your child. Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) is permitted to accompany children in our YMCA Summer Camps. Contact the Camp Director to make arrangements before your child arrives at camp. CAMPER SUPPORT SERVICES PERSONNEL We welcome personnel from outside agencies in the camp setting to serve campers that receive support services. In this case, the camper s parent/guardian must complete an authorization form. Additionally, the visiting individual must provide copies of his/her PA State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance and sign-in/out of the camp setting with a director for each visit. SICKNESS/INJURY Children with symptoms of communicable diseases are not permitted in camp. A signed note from a physician, stating that the child is no longer contagious, will be required for re-admission. If your child is ill, a parent or emergency contact will be notified CHILDREN MUST BE PICKED UP ASAP. In the case of a severe or life-threatening injury or sickness, a parent /emergency contact person will be called and your child will be transported to the nearest hospital along with a camp director. PARENT COMMUNICATION Parents are welcome to contact the camp offices by phone or email with any questions, comments or concerns. We will make every effort to return calls by the following camp day. Parents will be notified of any special events by notices sent out by the Camp Office. Information will also be posted on the Y s website at www.cyedc.org. OPEN DOOR PROBLEM SOLVING At the Y, we believe that children learn positive behavior through education and redirection. At times, children can behave inappropriately, necessitating a parent conference. We will strive to preserve the safety of all children and staff. We reserve the right to dismiss a child from the program when his/her behavior jeopardizes the safety and well-being of other children or staff. The following policy has been developed so that problems may be addressed in a fair and methodical fashion. STEP I: VERBAL NOTICE STEP II: WRITTEN NOTICE STEP III: SUSPENSION STEP IV: DISMISSAL *Every attempt will be made to follow the Four Step Problem Solving Program. Our staff reserves the right to move past one or more steps in the program when deemed appropriate. No refunds will be issued for payments made for days/weeks when a child is suspended or dismissed for behavior reasons.
