This would give time for another meeting to finalize any matters, which would make a date of 20 or 27 September two good dates. A vote for either date was conducted. The 20 th of September was chosen as the make-up date for Model Aviation Day. The same time frame will be used. Ron said we would have a spot landing contest to make it more exciting. Following in two weeks, October will be the Ringmaster meet followed by Cabin Fever meet. We have stuff coming up! Dave had a club member come to him to add an event for next March. Dave informed that all events had to be approved by the club. Dave agreed to bring it up to the club and did not see any problems for March or any month as nothing has been scheduled for next year, yet! Dave placed a motion on the floor for the event, whatever date it is. A question was raised as to the type of event. Dave said it would be a fun-fly type of event for all club members. It is not a contest, just a fun-fly. The motion was seconded and approved. Dave will inform the member requesting the meet be held and also clarify the proposed date(s). No open motions, no additional noise complaints. Rain. No other old business. The Cinemaworld 16 demonstration was a success with no safety issues. Management was happy, they fed those who participated and everyone had a good time. There was some control-line flying, park flying and a helicopter put on a demonstration. Cinemaworld 16 blocked off one half of the entire parking lot for the club to demonstrate their models. New Business Luann Manderville, from Florida Today, contacted Gerry Armstrong to do a story on the club, to run on 3 September. Gerry asked for someone to take on the project. Ron Mock volunteered to work with Gerry and Gary Fisher. Two people contacted the club. It seems like one did the stories and the other did the photos. Someone proposed that different models could be used. Another question was raised concerning the negative publicity with UAVs. Gerry felt it would benefit the club and to talk about the hobby; What is the attraction? cost? What is the value of the club to its members? Ron Ellis wanted to thank the board and club members for keeping an eye on the field and informing the membership of the field conditions on a daily basis. On the discussion of the field conditions and number of non-flying days due to flooding, Gerry Armstrong maintained statistics on the field conditions: How much had the field been closed? 2009: Closed 6-days 2010: Closed 12-days 2011: Closed 23-days 2012: Closed 9-days 2013: Closed 16-days 2014: So far, this year: Closed 28-days (as of August meeting).
Gerry explained an event when he tried mowing in between some of the rain; The tractor s back tire sunk like quick-sand! The field was that saturated. In other times, even when there was no standing water, the tires were wet with water just under the grass. Gerry mentioned Valkaria as an alternate field to fly at. Show and Tell There was no show and tell this week-end. Model of the month Dave Platt brought in his model of the TA-154. It was Germany's answer during World War 2 to the British partly wooden framed Mosquito. However, the German manufacturer could not come up with a glue to hold the airplane together and many crashed and re-kitted themselves due to glue joint failure. Dave s model employed the use of one fuel tank feeding both engines, with one pipe running inside the wing. Dave won Model of the Month. 50/50 The 50/50 drawing brought in $38.00 for the club. The winner, Roger Harding declined to accept his share and donated his half to the club. Event Reports Graves s Hobby Shop Swap Meet is 6 Sept.
