From the Seneschal FIGHTER PRACTICE HALL As you know, the Addison Road Community Centre Hall is not going to be available from the 15th of February to the 9th of March due to repairs. I have been unable to find another hall, however the ARCC have offered to have the flood-lights outside the hall on so that we can use the park area outside the hall. Hopefully, the repairs will be finished ahead of schedule. Baronial Meetings Skype option I have created a Skype account to use for Senate meeting, so if you want to be able to take part, but cannot attend physically, you now have a new option. Please email me at rowanyseneschal@gmail.com for the contact details if you would like to make use of this. Rowany Festival Executive creation, Positions Vacant Rowany Festival is the high-light of the year for many of us, and is something I personally look forward to. It is also unique among Lochac's events in it's size, and the complexity of tasks required to make it happen. The Rowany Festival Executive Team is being established to manage the ongoing extra-ordinary requirements of Rowany Festival, to maintain and develop the necessary skills and knowledge base, to support the Festival Steward and to provide a consistent framework and structure. In total there will be 7 Executive positions, and the following 4 are currently open. Wombaroo Liaison Council/State Liaison External Group/Hire Liaison Lochac Populace Liaison Please note that we are looking for people who are willing to commit to a 4 year term. Some of the duties of these roles will be maintaining hand-over documents, training for deputies, communication with the Executive team and Festival Steward. Please send expressions of interest to rowanyseneschal@gmail.com Want to donate to help the Barony hire the hall for fighter practice? Don t want to carry cash? Well, luckily we take EFT! Direct deposit details are: BSB : 032062 Account: 384421 Name: The Society for Creative Anachronism Rowany Donations are, as always, completely voluntary. The Barony recommends $5 per week or $50 for a quarter. John Longshanks invites YOU to a Bardic Circle on the Saturday night of Festival coming. It will start at 5pm. Time to start thinking of what you d like to perform (or pick someone else to perform)! To be, or not to be.. A Hamlet Unto the populace of Lochac, greetings! First of all, my apologies for the subject line of this message, but I refuse to leave that pun out there for someone else to use before me. Those among you who attended the closing court of Canterbury Faire last week will have heard Their Majesties announce the recognition of two new hamlets in the Crescent Isles. Those who were not at Canterbury Faire have my condolences - you missed a fantastic event. Those who were not there will be wondering what a "hamlet" is, within the game. And those who were there no doubt also have questions. It's an idea intended to make life easier for small groups, as they find their feet and decide whether or not they wish to progress to being a Shire or Canton. It's an additional option, not a replacement for anything, and it fits within the letter and intent of existing laws - so we're not talking about making changes at the policy level. I have now posted a fairly detailed description of what hamlets are intended to be, and to achieve, here: http:// lochac.sca.org/seneschal/hamlets.php. Please take the time to read it, and to think about how the idea could be improved. The sooner we identify the risks and problems, the sooner we can address them. Provide feedback and questions through the link you will find on the Questions and Answers page, and the material will be updated as we progress. Yours in service, Nicodemus Novello Lochac Seneschal Page 4

Rowany Festival 2016 For ongoing notices, FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/festivalchat/ Festival Timing Clarification There's been some requests for clarification regarding which days and times are covered by various Festival bookings. Hopefully this will help. Festival formally opens on the morning of Thursday March 24th and closes on the evening of Monday March 28th. A full event booking covers both the whole period of the event, and also the evenings of Wednesday March 23rd and Monday March 28th. Tuesday the 29th is the designated pack-up day, and we must be off-site by 4pm on Tuesday. This means that a full event booking entitles you be on site any time from Wednesday the 23rd through 4pm Tuesday, when you must be completely packed and offsite. If you day-trip, a day booking entitled you to be on-site for the day(s) you have booked. You are also entitled to stay intervening nights between adjacent booked days; for example, if you booked for Saturday and Sunday, you would be entitled to stay on-site Saturday night. Finally, the pre-event days are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. You can come set up campsites and so on on those days at no cost; if you wish to stay the night, you will need to book the night(s) through TryBooking. You can book at this link: http://www.trybooking.com/ FNRS General bookings information, including the pricing structure, can be found here: http:// festival.lochac.sca.org/booking-summary/ If you want to clarify anything, please email the Stewarding Team: rowanystewards@gmail.com Alternatively, head over to the Rowany Festival Discussion Facebook group and ask there. Thank you, Skarp-Heðin, Rowany Festival Steward 2016 Rowany Festival Timetable: I am doing the Rowany Festival timetable again this year. I'd like to have a draft available pretty soon, so if you have a meeting or event you need to have on the timetable, please email me at colwellcat@gmail.com - this is for general timetable, not A&S classes (for that, contact Gudrun at countesselspeth@hotmail.com ) Please note that Festival is starting and finishing *earlier* this year. Opening court, followed by the Heraldic Melee is Thursday (24/3) *morning*. This puts FAT & RAT back on Monday (28/3), with closing court late afternoon, site closing Tuesday. Ameline de Colwell Festival Site Preparation Another site preparation for Rowany Festival is required. Background: Too many people took their cars off the roads causing damage to the site. Understandably the owners were not happy. It was put to the Festival Team that in future years we had to be more careful or restrictions would apply. Part of the problem was that people did not always not know where the official roads were marked. This led to confusion and some not so happy words Solution: Like the Romans, we are going to build roads! This will involve painting rocks and placing the rocks on what will be Festival road system for the next millennium. How can you help? We need painters and rock movers. I can assure you no experience or skills (minimal) needed. When? 6th and 7th February. Starting from 9am and stopping at 4pm on both days. Of course, if we have enough people on Saturday we might just finish in one day Where? Camp Wombaroo (Festival site). Meet at front office. What do I need to bring? Outdoor work clothes, gloves and hat. Food and water will be supplied by the Barony Your help is very much needed. Please contact me or state that you are coming. Alfar, Festival constable Page 5
