Pilot Briefing for: New Islamabad Int l Islamabad (OPIS) 8/16/2018 Pakistan vacc
Introduction: New Islamabad international airport (IATA: ISB, ICAO:OPIS) is the main international airport serving the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area. It is Pakistan s second Greenfield airport after Sialkot and is build 20 km outside the twin cities. New Islamabad airport has two runways 28L/10R and 28R/10L The details of parking gates are given below: Northwest Apron (Domestic): 13-28 Southeast Apron (International): 1-12 Cargo Terminal: 29-31 State Lounge Apron: 32-33 Charts for Islamabad International Airport are available at http://www.pakvacc.com/pilots/charts
1. Runway Selection: As a pilot, it is your ultimate duty to select the right runway according to the wind direction if either Tower or any other upper controller is not available. If Tower/Approach/Center, controller is available, you will ask them about the correct runway and confirm the ATIS information for the selection of the correct runway for operations. Runway 28L/R Operations: If the wind is between 190-010 degrees and wind is greater than 7 knots, then 28L and 28R will be in use. Runway 10L/R Operations: If the wind is between 010-190 degrees and wind is greater than 7 knots, then 10L and 10R will be in use. Single Runway Ops: Most commonly used and the preferred runway at Islamabad is RWY 28L / 10R.
2. Cruising Altitudes: Within VATSIM, we have a system of clearing the aircraft to a certain destination. If, any aircraft is heading west of Islamabad Airport, they will need an even flight level. e.g. PIA213 going to OMDB (Dubai Int l) will need an even flight level of FL300 etc. Anything even is perfect. If, any aircraft is heading west of Islamabad Airport, they will need an odd flight level. e.g. PIA304 going to ZBAA (Beijing Int l) will need an odd flight level of FL310 etc. Anything odd is perfect. However, if they are going north, you will take an odd flight level. Similarly, if they are going south, you will take an even flight level.
3. Altitude Restrictions: In Islamabad, there are altitude restrictions for aircraft flying to certain destinations. These airports may be OPRN (Benazir Bhutto Airport), which are close to Islamabad airport. Like Aircraft flying to OPRN, cannot fly greater than FL080. As the airport is for VIP and military purposes and is on the east of Islamabad s airfield, so you are supposed to file an odd cruise level. Any aircraft filing a flight plan with a cruise level higher than mentioned above will not be cleared to fly. Note: Make sure to use the phraseology given to you to avoid any troubles while flying and to make life easier for yourself and the ATC.
4. SIDS & Squawks: All SID s at Islamabad have an initial climb (CFL on Euroscope) from FL140 to FL180 depending upon where that aircraft is heading, as discussed in section 3 of the document, or according to semi - circular rule. VFR Circuit traffic also has altitude restriction of 3000ft AGL. VFR traffic has a maximum Flight Level of FL140. RWY 28L/R SID s: BOBAM1P, BELKO1H, INDEK1F, DAMTO1J, KALMI1G, KALMI1H. RWY 10L/R SID s: BOBAM1N, BELKO1G, DAMTO1H, INDEK1E, KALMI1F. SID Altitude Restrictions The maximum climb for all BOBAM SIDs is FL200. It means you cannot fly an aircraft to climb to any level higher than FL200 while flying the SID until and unless cleared by ATC. While the altitude restriction for SAMEX SID is FL075. Similarly, the maximum climb for all KIMUL and KALMI SIDs is FL100 and FL170. It means you cannot fly an aircraft to climb to any level higher than FL100 and FL170 while flying the SID until and unless cleared by ATC.
5. Pushback Clearances:. Departing aircraft shall contact Islamabad Ground for push-back/startup clearance 5 minutes before ready. You can also expect the departure clearance with startup approval Startup/Pushback approval will remain valid for 5 minutes. In case of delay, the pilot shall obtain new approval.
