Welcome Hello and welcome to our optional booklet for 2018. We have created individual books for all of our regions, so if you are studying in England, Scotland, Vancouver, Toronto, San Diego or New York, you will find a much greater selection of entrances suggested to enhance your time with Oxford International. Introduction Optional excursions 2018 As well as new attractions, we have expanded those that are able to offer that little something extra for students, whether through workshops, private collections or alternative tours. Each page contains an overview of the destination, what the students will see and do, and what they get for their money. On most attractions they can benefit from our trade rate discounts! Please take the time to have a good read of this information and contact us with any questions. It is very helpful for us if you book these optional excursions ahead of your trip. However, it is of course possible for your group leaders to book them from their Activity Manager when they arrive at their centres. Please note that this list is by no means exhaustive. If there is somewhere not listed here that your groups really want to see, please contact us and we will gladly price the excursion for you. Vancouver Aquarium The Vancouver Aquarium is a public aquarium located in Stanley Park, just minutes from downtown Vancouver. The aquarium is one of the city s most popular attractions, but is also a centre for marine research, conservation and marine animal rehabilitation. The Vancouver Aquarium is home to over 50,000 animals from across the world that make up a dynamic and exciting tableau, ensuring that any visit will be memorable. COST: $32.00 3

Vancouver Bowling 5-pin bowling was developed in 1909 and is played only in Canada. A variant of bowling that requires more strategy than traditional 10-pin bowling, this game is fun and rewarding! Our tour groups can enjoy 12 lanes of 5-pin bowling, as well as arcade games and foosball tables that to cater to all individuals! Seaplane Tour This amazing tour departs from downtown Vancouver s Coal Harbour and includes a complete aerial view of the city and surrounding parks and beaches. The exhilarating spray of the water is always a highlight during take-off and landing. COST: $140.00 COST: $14.00 Indoor Trampoline Park Extreme Air Park is Canada s Largest Trampoline Park with a massive 42,000 sq/ft of enclosed interlocking trampolines with 2 huge trampoline courts, 2 dodge ball courts, a foam pit, half pipe, and a basketball dunking area. Enjoy exciting airborne games like Zero Gravity Basketball, 3-D Dodgeball, and Vertical Volleyball. This indoor trampoline park promises extreme fun! Harbour Tour As a city surrounded by water on three sides, tours of Vancouver's coastline and harbour are a truly unique way to take in the majestic sight of the city against the backdrop of ocean and mountains. By Night Theatre Vancouver is home to a thriving theatre culture where fans of comedy, ballet, live theatre, and the symphony will discover a city rich in performance options. Vancouver has incredible ways to take in the theatre such as watching Shakespeare outdoors with a beautiful mountain backdrop, incredible improv downtown, or check out the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the historic Orpheum Theatre. Fireworks (Celebration of light) The Celebration of Light is one of Vancouver's biggest public events, and the largest annual offshore fireworks competition in the world. Staged along Vancouver's beautiful Sunset Beach and English Bay, this week-long fireworks festival showcases the city on the world stage and continues to be one of Vancouver's best-known and most popular summer festivals. Countries from all over the world showcase their pyrotechnical skills over the course of three nights. During the Celebration of Light world leaders in the pyrotechnic industry come together to represent their country through choreographed firework displays set to themed music that will leave you amazed. The Great Outdoors Grouse Mountain Grouse Mountain is only 15 minutes away from downtown Vancouver, and one of the city's premier attractions. Grouse Mountain promises the perfect destination for a truly rewarding and memorable experience; with a variety of cultural, educational and outdoor adventures to choose from, a trip to Grouse Mountain will always be enjoyed. COST: $30.00 Paddle Boarding With a coastline like Vancouver s, it s no surprise that stand-up paddle boarding is a popular activity in the city. Combining a great core workout with a fantastic way to explore the coast, paddle boarding is a fun and rewarding experience. Vancouver offers plenty of great locations to try out this exciting activity; North Vancouver's sleepy and remote Deep Cove offers calm water and great scenery, while closer to downtown, paddle boarding is a great way to see English Bay, Sunset Beach, and False Creek. COST: Awaiting 2018 prices. Kayaking Capilano Suspension Bridge Kayaking in and near Vancouver provides a beautiful way to enjoy the perspective of the city's blend of urban and natural beauty. From a kayak or canoe, Vancouver's cityscape is nearly always framed by the surrounding mountains and ocean. Vancouver's downtown core and the famous Stanley Park are two prime ocean kayaking locations offering stunning views of Vancouver and its surrounding attractions. COST: $45.00 Vancouver's top destination attraction, Capilano Suspension Bridge offers breathtaking views suspended between towering evergreens 70 meters above the rushing Capilano River. The park is also home to numerous activities and adventures such as seasonal musical entertainment, guided nature tours, the Treetops Adventure, and CLIFFWALK - a cantilevered walkway clinging to the high granite cliff above the Capilano Canyon. The history of Kew Palace has humbler origins in the first half of the previous century. In 1631 Samuel Fortrey, a successful Flemish merchant, built this smart, brick villa beside the Thames.It was George II and his Queen, Caroline of Ansbach, with the first large royal family for many years, who were attracted to Kew Palace in 1729. Professional Sports Vancouver Whitecaps FC Vancouver Whitecaps FC is the home soccer team for Vancouver that competes in the MLS (Major League Soccer), the highest regular league in Canada and the US. The Whitecaps have a storied history, and were the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. From the exciting plays to the raucous home fans known as the "Southsiders", each Whitecaps game is sure to be an amazing experience. BC Lions The BC Lions are one of the CFL's (Canadian Football League) most successful football teams and are based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The team plays out of BC Place, a stadium featuring a technological marvel the world's largest cable-supported fabric roof. The Lions played their first season in 1954, making them one of the oldest professional sports franchises in the city of Vancouver and in the province of British Columbia. They are a truly exciting team with an impressive six Grey Cup Championship wins in their history. COST: Upon request Vancouver Canadians Vancouver's very own baseball team, the Vancouver Canadians are a Minor League Baseball team based in the iconic Scotiabank Field, also known as "The Nat" to the locals. The Canadians hold an impressive record; they were the third Northwest League team to win three straight championships and were the first Canadian franchise to be named the recipient of the John H. IELTS Test Oxford International s downtown affiliate schools are also official IELTS test centers! Students and/or leaders can sit for the exam on any day the test is offered, and will enjoy our professionally administered exams in a comfortable, friendly environment. Both the speaking and the written exam can be taken in one day, and exams are typically given on three Saturdays and one Thursday of each month. If students are travelling across North America, they can also take the IELTS test at one of our 14 other test locations across Canada and the USA.
