The President s Corner by Mickey Breunig, President -LMAC September is well underway and the last outdoor meeting of the year is coming up this weekend. The days are getting shorter as fall has begun, and we will be moving the meetings indoors next month. I hope you can take advantage of the day Saturday and join us for the meeting. The Fall Classic is the biggest fly-in of the year and is a little more than a week away. Visiting pilots will start showing up as early as Tuesday, so remember they are our guests. It s always nice to see the airplanes that the visiting pilots bring in and how they fly them. It should be a fun week of flying. There will be some setup required on Wednesday of next week. If you have time you might consider lending a hand getting the field ready for the fly-in. Michael Breunig mbreunig@windstream.net 1

Minutes of June 16, 2018 Meeting by Jim Newberry, Secretary The monthly meeting of the Lexington Model Airplane Club (LMAC) was called to order on August 11, 2018 by club president Mickey Breunig at 11:10am. A motion was made by Mickey Breunig to approve the minutes of the July 14, 2018 meeting minutes posted in the monthly newsletter. Seconded by Paul Bail and approved by vote of members present. Mickey Bruenig made a motion to approve the report and was seconded by Paul Bail and approved by vote of the members present. There was a discussion of changes to the trainer banger event. For the advanced class of flyers, any scale airplane will be allowed regardless of wing configuration, be it high, mid or low wing. As long as the model is a scale model then it will be allowed. The novice class will still be confined to trainer aircraft only. Paul Bail volunteered to coordinate the next trainer banger event to be held in October. The date has not been set. Curtis Adams reported that the estimate of sealing the runway and fixing the cracks came in at $5,750.00. Additional estimates will be sought. Lee Wright knows of someone to contact to get another estimate. Curtis Adams discussed the upcoming Fall Classic Fly in to be held September 13 through 16. There will no longer be a noon show on Saturday. While the public is welcome to attend, we will not be actively trying to attract the public. There will not be anyone collecting money as people arrive. Curtis Adams will be contacting the organizations that we have typically donated money to and alert that we are unsure of what donations, if any will be made this year. Curtis Adams asked for for awards this year. Details to be determined. Mickey Bruenig made a motion to approve the spending, was seconded by Paul Bail and approved by a majority of the members present. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, September 8. Curtis Adams made a motion at 12:00pm to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Paul Bail and appoved by the members present. Mickey Breunig made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:17am, seconded by Paul Bail and approved by a vote of the members present. 3
Blast from the Past by David J. Price This series of articles will present advertisements from vintage modeling magazines. The intent is to illustrate technological advances that have taken place in our hobby. For some, it will bring back memories, for newcomers it will present a piece of history of radio control model aviation. Here is an advertisement from the August 1954 issue of Model Airplane News for the Sterling Ring Master, Jr. (for.09 to.19 engines). How many of us got started flying U-control with a Ring Master? I had the Jr. with a McCoy 19 and the 40-sized Ring Master. Mine flew extremely well, but this pilot was learning maneuvers and soon they met their demises. 4

Indiana Warbird Campaign by John Royalty Well, decided to go to the Indiana Warbird Campaign which was on Labor day weekend. It is held at the AMA Flying Facility in Muncie Indiana. I went as a spectator and it was a very nice event. Others that went from LMAC were Mickey Breunig, Gayle Moore, and Curtis Adams. They went as pilots and flew what they bought. There were lots of GREAT scale planes and awesome looking aircraft. There were over 200 registered pilots. If you have never been to the AMA Flying site you need to go sometime it is really an amazing place. Here is the details as I know them. This beautiful 1000 acre site features flying facilities for all forms of aeromodelling. Flying Sites Radio Control facilities include a large improved grass area for Soaring activities, four runways (3 asphalt, 1 grass), and helicopter specific grass areas. Pylon and Aerobatics courses/boxes are permanently, and accurately marked. Free Flight activities enjoy the use of the entire site. Grass is kept manicured to facilitate model recovery and roads are developed to aid in model retrieval. 6
