ITINERARY DAY 1: SANTIAGO Upon your arrival in Santiago you will be welcomed at the airport and escorted to your hotel. Once you are settled in the afternoon, enjoy a half day tour of the city to discover its historic and modern districts. A host of colonial churches and palaces adorn the area around the main square and you will also visit the new commercial area where the city's progressive culture is being forged. Finally, take a funicular ride up San Cristobal Hill to the statue of the Virgin where on clear days, spectacular views of snow-capped mountain peaks can be observed. DAY 2: SANTIAGO Today head west into the Casablanca Valley which is one of the most important wine producing areas in the country. Its weather conditions, specifically the shelter offered by the valley and the sea breeze, allow the production of premium Chilean wine. Sample some of the region's finest exports at a couple of vineyards, where you can explore the cellars guided by a local expert. Lunch is taken at the chateaustyle Casas del Bosque winery. (B,L) DAY 3: SANTIAGO - EASTER ISLAND This morning take your flight over the Pacific to the picturesque Easter Island. Afternoon at leisure to settle into your surroundings. (B,L,D) DAY 4: EASTER ISLAND An early start as you venture to the centre of the island to hike around Rano Kao Volcano. Inside there is a deep crater where a fresh water lake has formed and at a top, traditional ceremonies are performed during the summer months. There are more than a hundred petroglyphs depicting the natives' gods and several paintings in the nearby caves. The last stop is at Ahu Vinapu which is one of the island's most important archaeological sites. Return to your hotel at the end of the day trip. (B,L,D) DAY 5: EASTER ISLAND Today you will tour the Moai route, passing these colossal sculptures that are omnipresent across the island. Your guide will explain the significance of these statues and the various theories surrounding their creation. During the course of the day, you will visit ceremonial platforms and quarries where the ancient natives carved these heads out of volcanic rock. Finally, arrive at Anakena which is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Time here to relax before transferring back to your hotel. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: EASTER ISLAND - SANTIAGO This morning head north to see the only Moais that were positioned facing the sea. Visit the so-called 'Cave of the Bananas' before heading back to the airport for your return flight to Santiago. Reception upon arrival and transfer to your hotel. (B) DAY 7: SANTIAGO - VALPARAISO Travel to the coast to explore the beautiful port towns of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. The hills of Valparaiso are a multi-coloured panorama of painted houses, providing a spectacular backdrop and characterizing the town's unique flair. The upper and lower sections of the city are connected by a series of funiculars built at the turn of the twentieth century. There are a few notable attractions here including the parliamentary building and a memorial to the heroes of the War of the Pacific. Then you will travel along the shore to the beaches of Viña del Mar, also known as the 'Garden City for its municipal parks and green spaces. This is a lively town with great restaurants, bars and a historic casino. At the end of the day, settled into your hotel in Valparaiso. (B) DAY 8: VALPARAISO Today take the boat out to Isla Negra or 'Black Island' - so called for its dark sands - which contrast with the pine and eucalyptus trees on the island. This is the former home of Chile's celebrated poet Pablo Neruda, who built a beautiful house open to the public as a museum. Every corner of the house is decorated with sculptures, paintings and books related to the sea. Leisure time on the island before returning to your hotel in the afternoon. (B) DAY 9: VALPARAISO - SANTIAGO On the way back to Santiago, drop in at the famous Concha y Toro winery to tour around its grounds and cellars. Observe the wine production process and taste a few classic Chilean reds and whites. The excursion continues by the side of the Maipo river where pleasant countryside is dotted with cottages. Transfer to your hotel in the evening. (B) DAY 10: SANTIAGO You will be transferred back to the airport by private vehicle for your return flight home. (B)
