Super HeroTraining Camp $139 Ages 5-7 June 4-8 9am to 12:30pm Calling all Little Heroes to the rescue! Our community needs your help! Inside every girl or boy lies the heart of a true hero. Campers will tell the story of their good superhero, discovering traits and abilities that makes them special through their stories, arts and crafts, and costume elements they create. Children will learn about courtesy, anti-bullying, safety, and our local heroes: police, fire and rescue. Training camp will teach kids about healthy foods and building healthy bodies through fun and playful activities. You ll be amazed to meet your own Little Hero on the final day of camp. (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Time Machine Adventures Ages 8-12 June 4-8 9am to 12:30pm Buckle your seat belts, campers! We are off on an exciting adventure. Kids will design and build a time machine to transport themselves back in time. Learn about the prehistoric era, volcanoes and early earth. Visit pharaohs and build your own pyramid. Don t miss the stop in Medieval Europe to visit the kings, knights and learn about castle designs. Our last adventurers had so much fun they almost forgot to board the time machine to get back to 2018 safely! On the last day of camp, the kids may give their parents a ride through time! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) STEM Robotics Ages 8-12 June 4-8 9am to 12:30pm Ages 8-12 July 16-20 1pm to 4:30pm Ages 8-12 July 23-27 Advanced 1pm to 4:30pm Check-in Girls and boys will have a blast learning to build and program robots to perform various tasks. This hands-on camp turns STEM principles into child s play with emphasis placed on basic mechanics and engineering. Students work in pairs with other students to build and complete specific tasks. Students advance at their own pace and may register to continue in our Advanced STEM Robotics camp or year-round program. This class has a natural pathway into local and national competitions should students desire to pursue robotics beyond the classroom. (includes t-shirt and snacks) Little STEMS Ages 6-7 June 11-15 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm Physics, science and engineering fun isn t just for the older kids! This camp is full of hands-on activities, building and learning just for campers ages 6 and 7. Make a magnet from 3 regular things. Learn what makes a boat float, create one and race it with your friends! Design a fast marble roller coaster with loads of twists, turns and loops while you learn about energy, gravity and g-force. Inside Out! Ages 6-7 June 18-22 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm Ages 8-12 June 11-15 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm This camp is the perfect kick-start for summer! Our human bodies are pretty amazing. Come learn basic biology and how our bodies work and grow in an interactive format. Learn using arts and crafts and hands-on experiments! Put on your chef s hat and study super foods and make powerful snacks! Play games with our 30 parachute and try new games to show your friends this summer! Inside Out Camp is a great way to grow your healthy body while having a blast! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Crazy Chemistry: From Slime to Crime Ages 8-12 June 18-22 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm Calling all future chemists! Come join your friends in chemistry camp and learn how different elements, when combined, can create something unexpected. Have fun making silly slime and growing crystals. Learn about molecular gastronomy, the art of making creative food treats using chemistry. Then roll up your sleeves and put on your gloves to investigate a crime as a forensic scientist. Gather and process evidence, search for clues,and solve the mystery. (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Operation Animation Camp! Ages 7-10 June 25-29 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm East Campus, Agriculture Building Our popular animation class is now a full-blown camp! Come join new friends in an exciting weeklong adventure through the world of animation. Learn how to make your favorite Disney and Angry Bird characters complete movements and commands you create on the computer screen. Design your very own animated computer game, and have lots of fun in the process! You will enjoy working with others, solving problems, and persevering through difficult tasks. Don t miss out on this computer programming adventure that is fun for boys and girls! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Farm to Fork Cooking Academy Ages 8-12 June 25-29 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm Kids will get down on the farm in this exciting cooking adventure camp. Aspiring young chefs will expand their taste buds while they learn how to safely prepare healthy meals and snacks from the amazing foods grown right here in the Central Valley. Kids will have fun learning cooking skills, techniques and new recipes to create dishes that will delight their families at home. This class is not recommended for children with food allergies due to the abundance of ingredients available and contact with food during ingredient selection. 3-D Printing and Design Basics Ages 8-12 June 25-29 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm Check-in 3-D printing is a rapidly advancing technology that allows digital objects to emerge into the physical world. It has applications in many fields including medicine, engineering, and even archeology. In this camp kids will learn the methods, materials, and limitations of 3D printing. Kids will also create, edit, and share their own 3D models. By the end of camp, kids will have prepared an object for printing on a 3D printer and observe it as it comes to life. Class size is very limited, so please register early! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Kodu 3-D Game Design Ages 10-14 June 25-29 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm East Campus, Agriculture Building Kids who like computers will love learning programming with Kodu! Kodu is a 3-D visual programming language, is user friendly, and makes game design fun, for kids with customizable landscapes, objects, characters and a wealth of commands available with a click of an icon. Kodu is designed to run on a PC or on Xbox. Young designers can create simple, as well as advanced, visually appealing games and programs, and then play them with their friends and family! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Floating, Flying, Falling, FUN! Ages 6-7 June 25-29 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm Ages 8-12 July 9-13 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm Who knew physics, engineering and science could be so fun? This camp is just the place for kids to use their imagination, creativity and brain power to make things float, fly and fall safely to earth! Kids will build unique projects using design, engineering, science and art. While in a safe environment, campers will learn to experiment through trial and error. Dream it + build it + test it + troubleshoot it + modify it = SUCCESS! How high can a rocket go? Can you land an egg safely on earth? Young Chefs- Adventures with Food Ages 5-7 July 9-13 (M-F) 1:00pm to 4:30pm Do your parents tell you not to play with your food? Join in this fun camp where playing with food is part of your day! Put on your super chef s hat and learn why food is important to our bodies. Learn how to eat healthy and make some yummy new snacks, drinks, treats and easy meals. Have fun making food animals and art in this hands-on camp! Due to the varieties of foods used in camp, this camp is not recommended for children with food allergies. Discover what happens when Skyler s plans for a big birthday bash go mysteriously wrong and all of the adults vanish! Campers and parents will love this award-winning musical, written specifically for kids, presented through special arrangement with Beat by Beat Press. More Crazy Chemistry and Science Ages 8-12 July 16-20 (M-F) 9am to 12:30pm If you love science, this camp is for you! How does an elephant brush his teeth? With Elephant Toothpaste of course! Have some messy fun making king size toothpaste and experimenting with fun chemical reactions in a safe environment. Did you know eggs can bounce? Discover the science that allows this to happen. We will do dozens of experiments during this camp that will seem impossible and learn the principles in science and chemistry that makes the unimaginable possible! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Super Summer Chemists Ages 6-7 July 23-27 (M-F) 9:30am 12:30pm Come join us and get creative in this handson science camp! We will have fun indoors and outdoors, and conduct all kinds of crazy experiments! We will make chemical potions with everyday household items and learn what causes the reactions when we mix things together. We learn science basics in a safe, playful environment. Let s get messy with Slime Time then see who can make the biggest bubble with our magic bubble mixture! Young campers will return home hooked on science! (includes t-shirt, snacks, and materials) Pee Wee Performers: Favorite Dr. Seuss Stories $139 Ages 5-7 July 30 - August 3 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm Young performers will have fun learning songs and cute skits based on books by Dr. Seuss. Kids will have a blast helping with costumes, creating props and making new friends. Little actors will enjoy learning the playful lines, stretching their acting ability, learning some dance moves and performing for their family on the last day of class. Ages 8-12 July 30 - August 3 (M-F) 1pm to 4:30pm Young artists with natural talent or students just starting out can gain artistic skills while they learn about different forms of art and famous artists. Kids will enjoy experimenting with many different mediums while learning techniques and elements of fine art. Various styles of art from different cultures will be introduced to show campers how art translates to everyone. Camp Information What is MJC Camps for Kids? MJC Camps for Kids at MJC Community Education provides safe activities for summer fun and learning. We have camps to accommodate ages 4-12. Our camps are designed to stimulate curiosity, reinforce basic skills, and help kids discover new subjects. Camps are held between 9:00am and 4:30pm and vary by age and activity. Check your camp schedule. Camp Schedule No matter which camp you sign your child up for, they will have a variety of activities each day. In the event your child uses the Stay All Day option please be sure to send your child with a brown-bag lunch identified with their name. Campers who Stay All Day will have a supervised lunch break and a fun-filled second half-day session with games, activities, arts and crafts and fun in the Maker Space. Cost for Camp The cost of each camp varies according to the planned activities and projects and particular needs of the camp. Each camp fee will include snacks, t-shirt, and materials. What should my child bring? Each child should bring their own water bottle. Please put your child s name on items they bring. Play clothes and tennis shoes are suggested. A bag lunch is required for children using the Stay All Day option. Where will the camps be held? Most camps will be held on our MJC West Campus. Check in and out will be held at the Wawona Center gates. Operation Animation and Kodu Game Design will be held on East Campus at the Agriculture Building. Check the camp maps for exact locations. Food Allergies? Snacks will be provided. Please be sure to note any allergies or food restrictions on the Medical Consent Form AND let the camp coordinator know. Some camps will prepare and eat food - so this is important! Refund Policy Refunds will be granted up to 30 days BEFORE the start date of each camp (minus $20 fee). Because of supplies/shirts that must be ordered, we cannot give refunds after 30 days prior to the camp start date. Please plan accordingly. Does my child need to be signed in and out? Yes. Your child s safety is of utmost importance to us. Children must be signed in on arrival. At pick-up time please show your ID. We want to ensure only authorized persons pick up your child. Please do not arrive any earlier than 15 minutes prior to class, or pick up your child any later than 15 minutes after camp. Policy on Behavior All campers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates courtesy and respect for others and the facilities. Disruptive students will be issued a behavior form and parents will be contacted to pick them up. If disruptive behavior continues, the child will be dismissed from the program with no refund. Please print your Camper s Packet at www.mjc4life.org. The Student Conduct Form will be in your Camper s Packet and will need to be signed by you and your child(ren) before they can begin camp. Please review this behavior policy with your child so that all children have an enjoyable experience. May I attend class with my child? No, sorry. We ask that you do not go into the classroom while camp is in session so the instructor and students are not disrupted. Many of the camps have either projects to take home or presentations that will be given on the last day of camp, which you will be invited to attend. All of our instructors and counselors are fingerprinted to help assure the safety of your child. We do not allow unchecked adults in the classroom with the campers. How can I register?
