Message from the PSO President As this is the last PSO newsletter for the year, I would like to say that is has been an honor to serve as your president for the 2016-2017 school year. I couldn t have done it without all the wonderful volunteers that we have here at Mary Woodward. Thank you to each and every one of you. Your time, talents, and contributions are greatly appreciated! Congratulations to our incoming PSO Board for 2017-2018: Megan Van De Pitte, President, Tracy Johnson, Treasurer, Wendy Jenkins, Assistant Treasurer, and Shelly Smelser, Volunteer Coordinator. We still have open Secretary and President-Elect positions if you are interested in getting more involved in the PSO. And don t forget that we ll be wrapping up the school year with Field Day on June 16 th for Kindergarten, and June 19 th for 1 st - 5 th grade. Get Ready for Field Day! Friday, June 16th for Kindergarten, 9:30-10:45am. Monday, June 19th for grades 1-5. 3rd - 5th grade will start at 8:45am and finish at 11:45am. 1st and 2nd grade will start at 12:15 and finish at 2:20pm. During Field Day the students rotate through a variety of game stations and then finish their time with popsicles. This is one of the most anticipated events of the year and a great way to enjoy the spirit of Mary Woodward! Please look for a sign up coming soon! PSO Auction Update Thank you again for your support & help in allowing our children to Imagine big at Mary Woodward! The PSO auction raised 52,000 this year. These funds will help allow us to continue programs & activities not supported by the State s education budget. Upcoming Events June 2: Carnival 5: Scrip Orders Due 9: Yearbooks delivered 15: 5th Grade Celebration 16: Kinder Field Day 19: 1st-5th Field Day 20: Last Day of School These important programs affect the education of ALL OUR STUDENTS: Teaching assistants to enable teachers to work with smaller groups of students within the mandated larger class sizes. Art Literacy, which is a monthly parent volunteer ran art curriculum, Science Fair, Book Fair & Cultural Fair. Field trips, enrichment assemblies and other special learning opportunities including our nationally acclaimed Woodward Garden. Thanks again, everyone, for a great auction year. It was a huge success! June Celebrity Walk+Bike to School Our June celebrity is... Our very own School Resource Officer, Officer Nicholas Nunn! Officer Nunn will lead the walk from the TVF&R Station on Walnut. If you live outside comfortable walking distance, there are two meeting locations where you can park and then walk or bike with your children. (See attached map for details.) All walking school buses and bike trains will leave for school at 7:35 am. This event will happen rain or shine! The Mary Woodward Parent Support Organization (PSO) was established to promote quality education, communication and understanding among the students, parents, faculty and the community of Mary Woodward Elementary School. The PSO sponsors various academic and social programs, coordinates volunteer activity and conducts fundraisers, all in the spirit of providing enrichment for our students and assistance for the work in the classroom. All parents and legal guardians of enrolled Mary Woodward students are invited to participate in the PSO. There is no cost for membership. Meetings are usually held the second Monday of each month.
