Tug & Barge personnel will load and unload the commercial vehicles on and off the barge. Sailing Procedures Commercial vehicle operators may not travel on the barge with their vehicles. Commercial vehicles may be left running during the trip if required to keep refrigeration units operating. The duration of the trip will be approx 1hr15min. Commercial vehicle operators are to confirm with the BC Ferries attendant at their departing location for the Ferry, Shuttle, and Water Taxi connection schedule. Water taxis running between Alert Bay and Port McNeill will shuttle back and forth when heavy traffic conditions exist and therefore sailing times may be altered. Water taxi size may be adjusted to accomodate traffic volumes. A limited amount of bicycles will be allowed on the water taxi each sailing. A shuttle se is planned to be provided in Alert Bay. Space will be limited and the shuttle will be operated on a first-come first-see basis. Proposed Parking Proposed Schedule Port McNeill Parking: Persons leaving their vehicles in Port McNeill during the shutdown will have the ability to begin parking in the temporary parking lots during the last two sailings on April 7th. A night watchman will be hired for vehicle security in Port McNeill during the closure in Alert Bay. Alert Bay Parking: Limited parking will be available at the Alert Bay terminal.

Route 25 Terminal Upgrades, Closures and Open Houses Over the upcoming years, BC Ferries will be upgrading the berthing structures at Alert Bay, Port McNeill and Sointula. Construction will occur around operations but at some point, each terminal will require a temporary closure period, currently planned as follows: Alert Bay: Construction Dec 2012 to June 2013 Berth Closure April 2013 Port McNeill: Construction pt 2013 to June 2014 Berth Closure April 2014 Sointula: Construction October 2014 to June 2015 Berth Closure April 2015 Closure lengths may vary, however BC Ferries will provide alternative se to the affected communities. In general, this includes: Water-taxi se for all foot passengers Tug and barge se for commercial customers. BC Ferries will host open house sessions in the affected community in the months leading up to each closure to outline specific se plans and seek feedback. The Alert Bay closure is planned for April 8-28, 2013. During that period, regular ferry se will continue between Sointula and Port McNeill. Parking will be available in Port McNeill for Alert Bay residents to leave their cars during the closure and a shuttle bus is planned to provide continuous free ground se on Cormorant Island.
