Route 25 Terminal Upgrades, Closures and Open Houses Over the upcoming years, BC Ferries will be upgrading the berthing structures at Alert Bay, Port McNeill and Sointula. Construction will occur around operations but at some point, each terminal will require a temporary closure period, currently planned as follows: Alert Bay: Construction Dec 2012 to June 2013 Berth Closure April 2013 Port McNeill: Construction pt 2013 to June 2014 Berth Closure April 2014 Sointula: Construction October 2014 to June 2015 Berth Closure April 2015 Closure lengths may vary, however BC Ferries will provide alternative se to the affected communities. In general, this includes: Water-taxi se for all foot passengers Tug and barge se for commercial customers. BC Ferries will host open house sessions in the affected community in the months leading up to each closure to outline specific se plans and seek feedback. The Alert Bay closure is planned for April 8-28, 2013. During that period, regular ferry se will continue between Sointula and Port McNeill. Parking will be available in Port McNeill for Alert Bay residents to leave their cars during the closure and a shuttle bus is planned to provide continuous free ground se on Cormorant Island. Your feedback is appreciated in helping us improve plans for the alternate se during the closure period.
