REGISTRATION 2.1. Meeting attendees are kindly requested to (create an account and) register on the STO Events site no later than 21 September 2018 at 17:00 (CET). Please also indicate during registration interest in the social events and other arrangements. 2.2. After your registration has been validated, the General Information Package will be provided to allow travel preparation. 2.3. On Wednesday 17 October from 08:00 until 09:00 time is reserved to complete registration. 2.4. Receipts will be made available upon request. 3. MEETING PREPARATION 3.1. The Read Ahead package and the draft Agenda will be sent 21 days prior to the meeting. This package will include a link to the SAS Panel Science Connect work space where the available meeting material will be stored. 3.2. ACCOMMODATION 5.1. Accommodation arrangements are to be made individually by meeting attendees. 5.2. A group reservation has been made at the Sheraton Zagreb Hotel at the rate of 760 HRK/night for a standard room single occupancy, and 865 HRK/night for a standard room double occupancy. Negotiated rates will expire on 21 September 2018. 5.3. Meeting attendees are kindly requested to book their hotel room at the Hotel Sheraton booking site no later than 21 September 2018 at 17:00 (CET). 5.4. Rates may vary for bookings beyond the blocked period. This will be confirmed by the hotel. 5.5. Breakfast and Wi-Fi is included in the room rate at the conference hotel. 6. BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND COFFEE BREAKS 6.1. Breakfast is included in the room rate at Hotel Sheraton Zagreb. 6.2. The hotel offers a daily 3-course lunch choice at the Cafe Imperial - 120 HRK or 16 EUR, with 1 drink included and at the King Tomislav Restaurant - 155 HRK or 21 EUR, with 1 drink included. 2
6.3 The fee for the refreshments package is 168 HRK for the week (6 coffee-breaks) and will be collected during registration on the first meeting day. Signing up for this package needs to be done during the online registration. The package includes coffee, tea, juice and refreshments and will be served in the foyer of the conference area. 7. TRANSPORTATION 7.1. Transportation arrangements to Zagreb are to be made individually by meeting attendees. 7.2. The easiest way to travel to the conference venue from Airport Dr. Franjo Tuđman is by taxi (+385 (1) 1212). 7.3. Another option is taking the airport bus to the Main bus station, followed by tram (No. 2, 6 or 8) to the city center and the conference venue. Airport bus tickets are sold on the bus. Oneway ticket costs 30 HRK. Tram tickets are sold on the inovine kiosks and on the trams. 30 minute tram ticket is 4 HRK. 6.4. When traveling to Sheraton Hotel Zagreb from the airport by bus and tram, the estimated transfer time is around 60 minutes. 8. INFORMATION ON THE VENUE 8.1. The Plenary Sessions will take place in the Grand Ballroom section C on the ground floor of Hotel Sheraton Zagreb. 8.2. The Breakout Sessions will take place in conference rooms Pula + Opatija and Zagreb. 8.3. The dress code for all sessions is Civilian Business Attire. For security reasons Military Uniforms should not be worn. 8.4. A map of Zagreb indicating the conference location can be found at Annex 1. 8.5 More tourist information on on Zagreb can be found at Annex 2. 8.6. Internet Access (Wi-Fi) will be available in the meeting room. 9. SOCIAL EVENTS 9.1. An ice-breaker event will be hosted by Croatia and will take place on Wednesday 17 October 2018 at Imperial Café of Hotel Sheraton Zagreb starting at 17:30. 9.2. A tour of the Military Museum and the HS Product weapon factory in Karlovac will be organized on Thursday afternoon 18 October 2018 from 17:30 to 19:30. The bus departs from Hotel Sheraton Zagreb at 16:30. For planning purposes, you are requested to confirm your participation during the online registration process. 9.3. The tour will be followed by the non-hosted Panel Dinner at restaurant Korona Srakovcic in Karlovac from 19:30 to 21:15. The fee for the dinner will be around 300 HRK (40 EUR). 3
Payment will be directly to the restaurant. Signing up needs to be done during the online registration. Return at Hotel Sheraton Zagreb foreseen for 22:15 9.4. The dress code for the social events is Smart Casual. During the tour it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes. 10. CURRENCY 10.1. The valid currency in Croatia is Hrvatska Kuna (HRK). 10.2. EUR/USD can be changed into HRK at the exchange offices at the airport, in the hotel or in the city of Zagreb. 1 EUR is around 7,40 HRK (July 2018 exchange) with a 1 USD equivalent to 6,32 HRK (July 2018 exchange). 11. VISA 11.1. Depending on the purpose of your travel to the Croatia, there are different types of visas that may apply to the occasion. 12 TH NATO OPERATIONS RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS CONFERENCE to be held 15-16 October 2018, Zagreb, Croatia TOURIST INFO ΑΝΝΕΧ 2 Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, ranks among the oldest cities in Central Europe. The city developed between the mountain of Medvednica and the river of Sava. A delight to walk through, the capital of Croatia attracts visitors with the lively atmosphere of its streets, numerous coffee shops, renowned restaurants and striking Neo-Gothic buildigs. Architectural sites The neo-gothic Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady, the Romanesque-Gothic Church of St Mark, parts of the medieval city walks dating from the 13th century the Stone Gate and the Lotršćak tower, the electric powered funicular linking the Lower Town and the neo-baroque building of the National Croatian Theatre dating from 1895, designed by the architects Fellner and Helmer. Art With around 30 active theatres, and 30 museums, many galleries and theatres, music and dance festivals Zagreb is truly a city of art. The Croatian National Theatre is the national home of the ballet, opera and drama. The Archeological Museum contains the mysterious mummy of a woman from Thebes in Egypt, wrapped in linen the longest text in Etruscan still to be decrypted. The Zagreb City museum brings a modern interpretation of historical events in the city from prehistoric times to the present day. The Museum of Arts and Crafts established to preserve the traditional values of craftsmanship. Parks and Gardens City center's parks, streets and squares intersect with green spaces and gardens. Strossmayer Promenade in the Upper Town is where you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of Zagreb accompanied by a poet A.G. Matoš in sculpture form. Green Horseshoe - a line of eight green squares created by Lenuci serves as the axis of the Lower Town. One of the most popular is Zrinjevac, known for its row of plane trees brought in from Trieste more than a century ago. Nearby nestles another green oasis, the Botanical Gardens, containing one of most splendid collections in Europe, with some 10,000 varieties. fish for their Friday meal. In the eastern part of the city stretches Zagreb s biggest park Maksimir, landscaped in the 19th century in English style. Memories from Zagreb Šestine umbrella - part of the traditional folk costume characteristic of the surroundings of Zagreb, which was regularly worn until 1960s. Today it is worn at folklore and similar events. The greatest concentration of these colorful umbrellas can be seen at Dolac Zagreb s open air market. Paprenjak an aromatic cookie made with flour, honey, walnuts and pepper, rectangular in shape, decorated with the reliefs of folklore motifs. Licitar heart - a heart-shaped red gingerbread gift, in Zagreb a traditional expression of love and affection. In continental Croatia this originally edible sweet cake with honey was sold for centuries at church fetes and was prepared for special occasions. It is a favorite decoration of traditional Christmas trees. 2-2
