PRESIDENT ROB CHAMBER S DESK Hi Everyone, Fundraising & Grant Applications It's not easy to start a new year and come up with a community project, plan the details, then apply for funding just 3 weeks into the Rotary year. I have to thank all those involved and in particular Chris Branson, John Jackson & Brian McDonald. These 3 members have put together funding Grant Applications to Bendigo Bank, West End Brewery and Rotary Compassionate Grants to meet tight deadlines. These grants form a very important part of our fundraising and are usually available for most projects we undertake. We will also be applying for a Rotary District Grant ( Money back from our contributions to The Rotary Foundation) and The West End Community Fund again this year. Last week at our meeting I was pleased to have a great response to the idea of raising funds from the sale of Serafino Wines (3 varieties). The sale price will be no more than $18 depending on our cost and the 30% tax added. These wines retail at Dan Murphy for around $23-$24 so it is a good price. When raising funds from members I am always conscious of keeping the price as low as possible whilst giving value to our supporters. The members contribute a lot to our causes so they should also get good value when asked to support our fund raising. The Down Syndrome SA have agreed to offer the wine to their supporters. We will also offer RCKP- LEARNING AREA PROJECT the same wine to the local Probus clubs. West Beach Surf Life Saving Club. - Partner's Night Aug 21 The WBSLSC will be addressing our club on Aug 14 and 21 on the topic of Resuscitation and the use of a Defibrillator. The meeting of Aug 21 is a partner's night so I would encourage as many partners as possible to attend. Paul Denley - What an intelligent and entertaining fines master. Thanks for the warm reception you gave him. Fines will feature in our program about every 3 weeks with "Family Time" and "Heads & Tails" filling the remainder. Wayne's interesting suggestion of "Ethical Dilemmas" could also be included. Notice of AGM for Charitable Trust - October 8 2 trustees to retire and 2 new elected. Nominations by Aug 14 (28 days notice) Retiring trustees can be re-elected. Sue's birthday this week so we are enjoying the warmer weather in the Gold Coast. 3
