Notes from the Editor s Desk 2 nd notice Well, I made an attempt to contact all listed in the previous issue of our Caboose Kibitzer by using the email addresses as printed, and had 43 returned with the message from the internet providers stating the email addresses had...permanently failed... I was so amazed that I verified them by cross referencing them with those provided on the NMRA website... So, would you please look over the information printed in this issue and send your changes to me at alan.a.aagaard@gmail.com This issue brings a very subtle change... that of the is now HyperLinked throughout this document - but it s invisible (trust me, it works). PLUS, the added bonus of the active box at the bottom of most pages which will return you to the Table Of Contents with a mere click of your Alan A. Aagaard Newsletter Editor of both the and Trails, Rails, & Tails of the Chisholm Trail Division of NMRA mouse. (...see, old dogs are still able to learn new tricks...lol) I am encouraging several to share their stories, experiences of their travels and experiences: The National Narrow Gauge Convention Rail Journeys from other countries Yes, we are all most proud of our MMR, but let s not over-look our most humble beginnings into this hobby. {Possibly, follow an NMRA member who is constructing his empire/pike from day one (as he s pondering achieving The Golden Spike Award and beyond...). Well folks, here is proof that your Editor was caught in the act of photographing the MOW equipment found on pages 7-9. 2016 MCoR Convention Larry R. Long, MMR Memorial Award Presented to Robert A. Simmons, Western Kansas Division of NMRA The award reads: Heart of America The Mid-Continent Region / NMRA The Larry Long Memorial Award This award is dedicated to Larry Long. He Served as President 1991-1993. Most of us knew Larry Long best from his IMAGINEERING CLINICS done with Pat Harriman. This award was envisioned to recognize the individual who has contributed to the hobby by encouraging us to remember that Model Railroading is Fun. It is presented to an individual who is known for doing outstanding & entertaining clinics, doing some of the things that promoted the IMAGINEERING CLINICS, or involving members and non-members in fun modeling activities. 4 th Quarter 2016 6

tales from the road did someone yell: Road-Trip? written and photographed by Alan A. Aagaard, Chisholm Trail Division Despite the gorgeous appearing weather, much of our layout tour on Saturday, September 10, 2016, took us through the flooded areas of South Central Kansas (including the area of The 45 th Walnut Valley Festival Winfield, KS Pickers Paradise ) where several of our NMRA members were forced to evacuate to higher ground and were scraping mud off/out of their camping abodes, thus missing the Layout Tour. Well, our second stop of the day was to visit two locations within Mulvane, KS. The first was a new railroad store and layout. and from the front door of the store was this view of the Mulvane ATSF Railroad Depot and Museum. (pardon my pointing out the obvious, but here is the caboose hiding in the trees)...and by following the arrows......you will see my vantage point for the next couple of pages of the Maintenance of Way (MOW) equipment sitting on a spur through this very busy location. 4 th Quarter 2016 7
