A recent Facebook discussion got us thinking about all the aviation periodicals out there and which ones our members
prefer. If you are looking for up-to-date articles and information, you might want to consider the following periodicals. We all have had to put washers and bolts on hard to reach studs that are placed in impossible places. Place a dab of petroleum jelly on your finger and place the washer on top. Place your finger with the washer on the stud. Seat the washer to bottom of the stud. The petroleum jelly will hold the washer in place until you can get the nut on. If you can't use a socket to start the nut then put a dab of petroleum
jelly on your finger to hold the nut while you try to get the nut started. If you have the space to use a socket to start the nut then all is well. I have seen some mechanics use a dab of petroleum jelly on the washer and then place the washer on top of the nut which is in the socket and start both pieces at one time. I'm not a fan of this practice since this greatly increases a potential FOD event if the washer falls off the nut. If you have discovered some handy trick to making the job easier, let us know and we'll pass it on! Reader, Judith Grigsby was able to expand on last month's Tech Tip, thanks Judith! "To add another trick to getting an extra grip on a stripped screw head is a little Comet from the cleaning closet and spit. It makes paste and does the same as the graphite compound. Kind of gross but works!"
