EU-funded projects supporting Culture Conservation and revitalisation of the cultural - tourist site Sv. Gjorgji in Staro Nagorichane and economic regeneration in the region. In November 2013, the EU-funded project for conservation and revitalisation of the cultural - tourist site Sv. Gjorgji in Staro Nagorichane started, funded with 1.42 million EUR under the European Union's Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance. The conservation and revitalization of this magnificent cultural heritage, the original Church was built by the Byzantine Emperor Roman IV Diogenes in 1071, is an important element for promotion of tourism The project activities were divided in two components: 1) award of grant to the National Conservation Centre for the conservation of the church Sv. Gjorgji and 2) works for interventions in the immediate surrounding area of the monument: bell tower, surrounding walls of the church, tombstones in the churches' yard, anchoret of St. Prochorus of Pchinja, the old school that will be transformed into ethno-museum, the square of the village and the fountain. The support to cultural - tourist site Staro Nagorichane is being extended in the framework of the Ljubljana Process which is regional initiative on cultural heritage with focus on Southeast Europe under joint management of the Council of Europe and the European Commission. Unfortunately the conservation the church "Sv. Gjorgji" was not completed within project's duration. 1

Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2014 Civic Participation for Local Democracy The project enabled civil society to take part in initiatives that will encourage further participatory democracy at local level. The project set an environment where CSOs would become active actors in the processes of decision making and creation of local policy and public opinion in the area of culture, thus boosting civic learning and participation. [Total budget: 286,950 EUR / EU contribution: 257,000] EU funded projects in culture and cultural heritage through Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) Albania former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 2007-2013 Borders without boundaries - The purpose of the project was to establish sustainable cross border relations between Bitola and Korca by opening communication paths and creating tools, to develop long term partnerships and networking data recourses so that these relations can be kept alive in the years to come. [Total budget: 83.550 EUR / EU contribution: 48.099] World Heritage in Young Hands - Together Protecting Our Culture and Nature - The project overall objective was to enable Albanian and Macedonian high school youth to learn to value diversity and protect the world s and their own cultural and natural heritage as well as to enable teachers to foster intercultural collaboration and understanding and to inspire their students appreciation for cultural and natural heritage. [Total budget: 65.214 EUR / EU contribution: 54,845] Watch-Women and theatre creation hub - The overall objective of the Action is to foster the women employment in the artistic field and to exchange experiences and practices of intercultural work. [Total budget: 80,000 / EU contribution: 66,400] Empowerment of women in touristic areas through handcrafting production - This project has contributed to the promotion of sustainable economic growth and attractiveness of the Albanian Korca Region and Macedonian Struga Region. It enhanced capacities and cross border cooperation among local stakeholders and institutions in managing and programming regional cultural tourism development, increased role of cultural heritage in social and economic development, raised awareness about regional cultural assets through structured and professional information dissemination and socio-cultural activities targeting internal and external audiences, markets and customers, strengthened capacities of local artisans to reach international and tourism markets through the creation of three artisan business incubators and a series of trainings that were conducted with a particular inclusion of woman from the cross border region. [EU Contribution: 83,470] Use of art where is hard to talk - exchanges between artists working in the social field - The overall objective was to create a Network of civil society cultural organizations, local institutions, community based groups and artists working with vulnerable groups using art activities in both sides of border between Albania and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. [Total budget: 58,360] Days of Roma culture - The overall objective of the project was socio-cultural approach for social cohesion and introducing the Roma in society, learning of cultural and traditional values, positive examples of education, exchange information and experiences between Roma and others. [Total budget: 47,684] 2

Preservation of the unique heritage and cultural exchange between Bilisht and Brvenica - The aim is identification, documentation, and promotion of distinct items, practices, and traits of cultural heritage, and to establish conditions for sustainable development of cultural diversity, to promote the culture of the various ethnic groups, to institutionalize the cooperation in the field of promotion of cultural diversity through the establishment of systematic and structural approach, and to encourage representatives of ethnic groups in the cross-border region. [Total budget: 49,918] EU funded projects in culture and cultural heritage through Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) Bulgaria former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 2007-2013 Centre for Cultural and Historical Heritage (CCHH) in Kriva Palanka, EU funded project: Cultural Heritage a Bridge to Joint Future under IPA CBC Programme Bulgaria the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 2007-2013 Culture - bridge of cohesion - The purpose of the project was to reach sustainable development of the border region using the rich culture heritage and creation of innovative common cultural activities and services for encouraging the cross border cooperation between culture institutions in Municipality of Sandanski and Municipality of Novo Selo. [Total budget: 276.923 / EU contribution of 235.384] Improving quality of life through promotion and development of cultural resources of Gotse Delchev and Kratovo region and turn into attractive Art Centre - The purpose of the project was to develop cultural resources of Gotse Delchev and Kratovo region through creation and promotion of paintings, woodcarvings, high quality photos and souvenirs prepared from natural materials [Total budget: 276.923 / EU contribution: 235.384] 3

The tourism - our common future from Struma to Bregalnitsa - The project aim was to overcome barriers and support the awareness and development of natural resources and cultural-historic heritage into a relevant source for intensification and diversification of the regional economy. [Total budget: 285.527 / EU contribution: 242.698] Balkan Workshop for Theatre - The project purpose was to promote cross border cooperation between young artists from the both sides of the border, in the regions of Stip and Kjustendil, through theatre workshops, cultural exchange weekends, drawing exhibitions, puppet theatrical performances etc. [Total budget: 69.380 /EU contribution: 58.973] Cultural Exchange Sharing Differences Towards United Cultural Development - The project purpose was to identify, record and present the cultural folkloristic heritage of the regions of Dojran and Nevestino through information and visibility activities concerning folklore cultural heritage on both sides of the border, and providing for the newly established Cultural-Informative centre in Nevestino and the new build Small Summer stage in Dojran to be used for organization of different cultural performances. [Total budget: 299.920 EUR / EU contribution: 254.932] Cultural Bridges for Sustainable Regional Development - The project aim was to increase attractiveness of the region based on preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage. [Total budget: 94.857 /EU contribution: 80.628] Transforming the lines of division into a point of cohesion - The focus of the project was to protect and increase the motivation for cultural and tourist development within the cross-border region of Dojran and Kyustendil, thus enabling the people from both regions to establish and maintain sustainable cooperation and lasting friendship. [Total budget: 294.576 / EU contribution of 250.389] Cultural Heritage a Bridge to Joint Future - The aim of the project was to establish a Centre for Cultural and Historical Heritage (CCHH) in Kriva Palanka in renovated and equipped premises of the Old Army house, and to improve the outdoor and indoor infrastructure and provide equipment for the Cultural Centres Okoliyskata kashta and Dzhamiyata (The Mosque) in Dupnitsa, as well as to organise joint exhibition of hand made handicrafts souvenirs from students in Dupnitsa and Kriva Palanka. [Total budget: 286.776 / EU contribution: 243.760] Building cross-border cultural cooperation - The aim of the project was to improve access and attractiveness to 2 cultural sites and joint plan for management of cultural sites in crossborder region of Vinica and Bansko. [Total budget: 294.176 / EU contribution: 250.050] 4

Under the same sky - The aim of the project was to develop and popularize cultural tourism in the region Kriva Palanka-Dupnitsa through 1 km long local road to the sanctuary of the Saint Joakim Osogovski in Gradec village, a data base of the sacral heritage in the cross-border region Kriva Palanka- Dupnitsa, annual events as tourist attraction, and an information book for the sacral heritage of the region. [Total budget: 296.594 / EU contribution: 252.105] Identical in Cultural Differences - The aim of the project was to preserve and present the culture in the region through creating and promoting a House of the cultural and historical heritage of Rila and an Ethno house in Kocani as places for exhibiting authentic crafts and the common history of the region as well as venues where various activities take place. [Total budget: 227.525 / EU contribution: 193.396] Culture opens doors to enabling development - The aim of the project was to improve public access to culture in the region and the territories of Konce and Yakoruda Municipalities, to develop cultural competence among the residents in the cross-border region and to renovate and modernize the Community Canter in Yakoruda and the Multifunctional Cultural Centre in Konce. [Total budget: 280.533 / EU contribution: 238.453] Digital Culture for Regional Cohesion: An innovative data base for raising the awareness in the cross-border area on the regional and European dimension of culture and its better joint utilization - Digital Culture for Regional Cohesion - The project purpose was to create a model for digitalization of different categories of cultural resources that would be used in the entire cross-border region. [Total budget: 99.533 / EU contribution: 84.603] Together in the traditions and future - TOGETHER - The project aims at establishing better conditions for creative involvement of young people in activities related to common cultural tradition and cooperation between students from Secondary school "St. Cyril and Methodius", Kyustendil, Bulgaria and Municipal Elementary School "Nikola Karev", Probistip, MK. [Total budget: 97.869 /EU contribution: 83.188] Cultural Heritage of Our Ancestors Spiritual Mainstay of Our Common European Future - The main project goal is to give opportunity to participants in the project cultural events (cultural and folk groups, individual performers, artists, craftsmen to present their gifts) to establish new cross-border contacts, partnerships, initiatives and know-how exchange in the region of Kriva Palanka and Kyustendil. [Total budget: 97.156 / EU contribution: 82.582] 5

Mapping of cultural heritage in the municipalities of Strumyani and Karbinci and stimulation of the development cultural tourism through integrated tourist products - C.U.L.T - The purpose of the project is to establish a database of cultural sites with tourist in the municipalities of Strumyani and Karbinci. [Total budget: 99.995 / EU contribution: 84.996] Cultural tourism - bridge between the population in the cross-border region of Garmen and Bosilovo - The main purpose of the project is to preserve cultural heritage and contribute to sustainable cultural tourism development of the villages of Bosilovo and Garmen through renovation of the cultural centres in the both villages. [Total budget: 196.194 / EU contribution: 166.765] Rock'n Pop the Borders - The project aim is to establish and promote a common web platform for young rock and pop music from all cross-border regions that would promote their music among cross-border audiences. [Total budget: 82.119 / EU contribution of 69.801] Activating Heritage in CBR BG-MK - This project purpose is to inspire and encourage unemployed young people in the Municipality of Stip and Blagoevgrad District to undertake entrepreneurial activities and to broaden their perspectives through demonstrating new forms of making business. [Total budget: 82.119 / EU contribution of 69.801] Common Culture, Traditions and History - a Bridge to our European Future - This project purpose is to improve the quality of life of the regions by finding new domains of intervention in the cross-border cooperation between the areas of Municipality of Bansko and Gevgelija, through work in the areas of cultural development, revival of specific cultural infrastructures, developing cultural tourism perspectives etc. [Total budget: 298.963 / EU contribution: 254.119] Open Gate for Cultural Exchange Building a Joint European Future - This project purpose is to unlock the possibilities for sustainable cross-border cultural cooperation between the Bogdanci and Kyustendil municipalities. [Total budget: 295.597 / EU contribution of 251.258] Improvement of the Quality of Life in the Cross-border Region trough Promotion and Revitalization of the Common Cultural Heritage - The project purpose is to enhance the cooperation between KUD "Goce Delchev" - Delchevo and Association "People and traditions" from Brezhani, as well as between local artists, performers, dancers, singers, painters. [Total budget: 90.250 / EU contribution: 76.712] EU funded projects in culture and cultural heritage through Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) Greece former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 2007-2013 Lhi-Lna 2 - The project aim is to protect the historical and natural resources of the cross border area of Novaci, Mariovo and Almopia, including the interior of the church St. Dimitrij in Gradesnica and Byzantine monuments of Almopia, and at increasing awareness of the involved areas as attractive destinations of alternative tourism. [Total budget: 319.954 / EU contribution of 271.960] Prespas - The project principal aim is to highlight the region s rich cultural heritage and resources, as well as considerably enhance its modern artistic dynamics through the establishment of a new landmark institution, the Prespas International Festival [Total budget: 154.100 / EU contribution of 130.985] 6

Promo.Cross - The project aim is to promote religious monuments and traditional architecture in the areas of Kilkis and Krusevo through digitization, 3D modelling, GIS application available at the web portal, DVDs and publications. [Total budget: 111.564 /EU contribution: 94.829] CONCERT - The project aim is to support of the choral music in the region of Bitola and Thessaloniki and stimulate diverse and sustainable joint music activities through joint summer camps and joint performances of choruses from the both countries on the both sides of the border. [Total budget: 44.842 / EU contribution of 38.115] Interact - The project purpose is to stimulate intercultural dialogue, transnational cultural corporation, artistic expression and circulation of artistic output in the region of Bitola and Thessaloniki, through seminars, exhibitions, performing art training courses etc. [Total budget: 127.499 / EU contribution: 108.374. ] Kajmak - The project aim is to support alternative forms of tourism and promote the cross-border gastronomy by exploiting the existing natural and cultural heritage of the cross-border area of Kavadarci and Edessa. [Total budget: 68.928 / EU contribution of 58.588] Heritage Protect (phase 1) - Project s aim is contribution to sustainable economic development of CB region through conservation, restoration and reconstruction of the Tsar s Fortress in Strumica, enhancement of church of St. George in Kilkis and construction of Natural-history-cultural path at St. George hill. [Total budget: 324.659 / EU contribution: 275.960] Heritage Protect (phase 2) - Conservation, restoration and reconstruction of the Tsar s Fortress (2nd phase); church of St. George in Kilkis; construction of Natural-history-cultural path at St. George hill in Kilkis and preparation of a study for gentrification and reuse of listed building of Old Prefecture of Kilkis. Improved visibility and interpretation and promotion of natural and cultural heritage will increase incoming tourism and thus new jobs are created which in turn increases the income of the population. [Total budget: 324,659, with EU contribution of 275,960] Prom-Cult - The project purpose is to enhance sustainable local tourism by promotion of Vlach's cultural heritage of the Chionochori region and Municipality of Konce. [Total budget: 170.938, with EU contribution of 145.297] Lhi-Lna - The project purpose is to promote jointly the historical and natural resources of the cross border area of Novaci, Mariovo and Almopia through documentation and exploration of the connection between the historical monuments and natural sites of each area and promotion as valuable tourist sites. [Total budget: 267.214 / EU contribution of 227.132] EU funded projects in culture and cultural heritage through Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), Cross Border Cooperation (CBC) Kosovo former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 2007-2013 Culture in Action - The project purpose is to improve quality of life of population in rural cross border region of Lipkovo and Vitia by providing access to culture and creating networks for sustainable cultural development and promotion of cultural heritage. [Total budget: 250.000 / EU contribution: 212.500} 7

Participation of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the ERDF European Territorial Co-operation transnational programme 'South-East Europe' Achieving SUSTainability through an integrated approach to the management of CULTural heritage (SUSTCULT) SUSTCULT intended to build local networks by actively involving a wide range of stakeholders of the targeted cultural sites: professional experts, civil servants, non-profit organizations, tourist operators, financial actors, etc. The beneficiaries received intensive courses on conservation and sustainable utilization of cultural heritage organized by higheducation centres. [Total budget: 78,080 EUR / EU contribution: 65,376 EUR] Cultural Value for Sustainable Territorial Governance and Marketing (CULTEMA) - The CULTEMA project aims at developing a shared marketing strategy to increase cultural heritage investments, establishing new institutional capabilities and implementing innovative governance patterns, able to reduce administrative, social and economic barriers among cultural heritage and potential investors.
