04 PROPERTY OVERVIEW AND HISTORY Legends Soda Fountain, Book Store Sonora, CA Legends Books, Antiques and Old Fashioned Soda Fountain This historic building is home to a soda fountain and store serving coffee, espresso drinks, ice cream, root beer floats and more. The possibilities are endless for this unique investment opportunity for a person with entrepreneurial spirit! Upon entering from Washington Street you are struck by the elegance, and find detail that this classic building has to offer. The bar area has high ceilings, the original rock walls, and wood flooring. The bar itself is mesmerizing with its beautiful wood craftsmanship; estimated to be built around 1850. Then there is the massive floor to ceiling antique bar back that is twenty six feet long. Large wood columns line the sides of the bar that includes archway and is lined with antiques. The bar counter itself features a brass rail held to bar with lion heads. Explore the underground bookstore where you can look in the first room downstairs and see part of the historic tunnel from the Gold Rush days. The tunnel ran underneath part of the Washington Street and connected with some of the gold mines. Mines brought their prospected gold into town underground through the tunnel, so that they and their gold were unseen by unsavory characters. The tunnels lead to the legends building basement and concrete bank vault, because it was the Bank of Italy at that time, the beginnings of the Bank of America. Don't miss the mining display, that creates a recirculating waterfall spilling over the rocks. It is one of the reasons that locals tell town guests to visit Legends.
