Nature at its best Thank you Ian Beaton The Mapleton Men's Shed will open 5 mornings (9.30am) per week starting Monday 4 September. The Shed is aiming to attract men who are not interested in the usual woodwork/metal work pursuits in which many members engage. Men can just visit for a cup of tea/coffee and chat. Costs will be a gold coin and there is no need to be a Shed member to drop in. Further details from Franz (5478 6975). LILYPONDS CLEAN UP Spring started with Bush Land Conservation Management doing one of their regular Lilyponds weeding as part of their contract with the Sunshine Coast Council. A crew of five were hand weeding the edges of the Lilyponds for most of the day but did reluctantly resort to a little spraying in special spots. A separate contractor is responsible for the water weeds in the pond. The workers reported seeing Royal Spoonbill, Black Shouldered Kite and several water rats during the day as well the normal residents. Looking for JP services contact the Mapleton Community Library or telephone 5445 7182 direct. Old pairs of spectacles: If you have any that you no longer require, Lions is happy to take them off your hands. They are recycled to needy communities. Glasses can be left at the Library. 2

Preparing for Prep music workshop at the Mapleton Community Library Mapleton Bowls Club second and fourth Fridays dinner. Meet friends and enjoy a meal out. BUSH FIRE READY: National Parks are reducing the fuel loads on the firebreaks near Leafy Lane in the Mapleton National Park. These firebreaks may help protect Mapleton in the event of a fire in the park. Former Mapleton forestry supervisor, Ron Ensbey, said that there were major fires in the park in 1923, 1946, 1957 and 1968. The region is very dry at present. Keeping gutters clear of dry debris is important. Probus Club of North Blackall Range Inc meets on the second Friday of each month at Mapleton Bowls Club, 5 Post Office Road, Mapleton.
