ANNUAL REPORT 2013 Home > Cruise traffic Download PDF Home Presentation Financial statement FISCAL YEAR-END 2013 Technical data of the port The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife closed its fiscal year 2013 recording a movement over 794,000 cruise passengers, 167,000 of them as home port, and 525 cruise ships, 291 of them at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Works or activities authorized to third parties Traffic statistics Works and projects Regular Shipping Lines Port activity Cruise traffic Sociocultural activities Port community directory Photo gallery Table of contents Undoubtedly, the ports of Santa Cruz de La Palma, San Sebastián de La Gomera y La Estaca played a leading role in 2013. The increase of cruise passengers ranged from 87 percent in the port of San Sebastian de La Gomera (50,620 tourists) to thirteen percent in La Palma (206,888). In El Hierro the number of cruise passengers amounted to 7,321 w hich means 1,525 more than in 2012, this is, an increase of 26 per cent.

THE CRUISE SHIP TERMINAL OF THE PORT OF SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, OPERATIONAL IN 2015 By the cruise season 2015-2016, the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will have a new cruise ship terminal that will be undoubtedly the most modern in Macaronesia since it has been designed as an avant-garde construction able to manage cruise ships with up to four thousand cruise passengers. The new building will cover an area of approximately 8,473 square meters and will be in charge of activities such as checking, monitoring, waiting room for passengers, luggage delivery and other services like commercial premises as well as parking areas for buses, taxis and supply, among other services. The design of what will be an avant-garde building was the result of the consultations undertaken by the Port Authority for over a year with major ship-owners, who not only made clear recommendations about the implementation of these kind of terminals but also regarding the team of experts required for this purpose. That is why the provincial Port Authority chose the Miami-based architecture firm BBA to provide consulting services for this important project whose implementation is expected to be awarded by the middle of this year. Part of the infrastructure of sheds currently located at the Muelle de Ribera dock, which host fruit export and the import of paper rolls, will be used in the construction. With an area of approximately six million square meters, it will be renovated and expanded, becoming part of the architectural complex. The cruise ship terminal, with a length of two hundred meters along such dock and parallel to the Avenida de Anaga, will be located next to the port-city building. Taking into account its size, scale and location, it will be an important architectural element between the city and the sea. It has been designed as a building without a back façade since both the front and the back have been given the same relevance. This new service, by which the port of Tenerife will act as home port for up to five cruise ships, represents an investment of approximately eight million euros, as indicated Rodríguez Zaragoza, "all coming from our own funds, although we will request Europe at least forty percent of this amount via ERDF funds.

THE PORT OF SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, AWARDED FOR THE BEST FIT FOR LARGE CRUISES The port of San Sebastián de La Gomera has been awarded in March during the celebration of Seatrade 2013 by Cruise Insight one of the most recognized publications of the cruise industry, for the important improvement of its infrastructure allowing since 2010 arrival of large cruises to this facilities. On this occasion, the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife participated in the world s leading fair of this touristic sector, celebrated in Miami, under the name Cruises in the Atlantic Islands, integrated also by the ports of Las Palmas and Madeira. Specifically, this award is related to the enlargement of the harbor promoted by Ports of Tenerife, allowing the extension of the pier by 102 metres to 675 metres long in total. Three hundred of them correspond to the last alignment, overcoming the existing limitations and assuring appropriate berth for most of the cruises arriving at our archipelago. Thus, large cruises with capacity for more than 6,000 people, including passengers and crew members, have at their disposal since November 2010 an alignment specially built with the appropriate dimensions for them in the port of San Sebastian de La Gomera.

COSTA CLASSICA RETURNS WITH HOME PORT TO TENERIFE DURING THE 2014-2015 SEASON. The Italian line Costa Cruceros chose the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife as home port for its Costa Classica during the 2014-2015 season, thus renewing its commitment with our port, which already was home port on the Canary Islands for another of its ships, Costa Serena, during 2011-2012. Costa Classica confirmed twelve stopovers for 2014 and another eight for 2015, with an average of 1,800 passengers per visit. THE PORT OF SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE SETS UP AN AREA FOR THE OPERATION OF LOADING / UNLOADING OF MSC CRUISE SHIPS The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife made available to MSC Cruises a new facility in the Muelle de Enlace [Connection Wharf] that functions as a maritime station for the operations of embarking or disembarking of passengers of MSC Armonía cruise ship, which has started arriving weekly in October at this wharf in Santa Cruz. The facility fitted out was originally conceived as a heliport with an area of one thousand square meters for invoicing operations which require equipment necessary for the organization and control of passengers, and includes installation of five counters where these operations will be performed. Likewise, offices, toilets, a store, services and ramps for the access of disabled persons were constructed inside the building. Security measures like a walk-through detectors for passengers control and a scanner for the hand luggage control. For the passengers ending their journey in the island it is available a covered area of 336 square meters where their luggage is kept until it is collected. Their work of buses and taxis serving MSC Armonía passengers has been facilitated by having the area of 4,800 square meters to provide their services.

FAM TRIPS FROM AMERICAN SHIPPING COMPANIES ARRIVE AT THE PORTS OF THE PROVINCE Managements of itineraries and excursions of three important American shipping companies visited in October the islands of La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife, and, in particular the ports of these islands, in what is known as a fam trip (familiarization trip) in order to know a product and promote its sale. In this context, the delegates of the shipping companies of WindStar, Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Cruise Line, knew in situ the capacity of the port and tourist infrastructures in the province, as well as various natural attractions of the archipelago, and subsequently valuing an increment in the frequency of stopovers of their vessels in our ports and the incorporation in the circuit of the islands still not included in their new itineraries. Some of the events planned including visits to the Museo del Puro,in La Palma; the Mirador Cesar Manrique in La Gomera, the Teide, La Laguna, and the Loro Parque in Tenerife, sponsored by Canary Ports and the Loro Parque respectively. This promotion was organized by the Spanish Tourist Office in Miami, Promotor, each port authorities and the island councils. FIRST STOPS MSC Magnifica. Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 5 October.
