MACARTHUR PARK MIX-USE PROJECT 2

Address: 650 South Alvarado Street, Los Angeles, CA Regional Context: The site is located on Wilshire Boulevard, midway between the Miracle Mile to the west and the Central Business District to the east. It is a gateway to the Downtown and Center City West areas. Its visual prominence is emphasized by its location adjacent to MacArthur Park. The station site is located at the geographic center of a predominantly Central and South American district extending along Alvarado Street, from the Echo Park community to the north of Hollywood Freeway to the Pico Union community to the south. The site is located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, both designated as major highways and surface transit routes. The station is planned to be a transfer point for bus and subway passengers. Community Context: SITE MAP The village center at Westlake will become a natural neighborhood focal point. The neighborhood has a high transit ridership potential, being more density populated than the City of Los Angeles as a whole. The neighborhood adjacent to the Westlake village center is predominantly Central American. The resident population also includes other ethnic groups such as Mexican, Korean, and African-American. The design of the site of Machu Picchu in Peru inspires the same type of housing with different sections of the residential levels having different "slopes." ADDRESS: 708 E. Palmer Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205 AREA: This site is located in a densly populated residential area with both single family homes and apartment complexs in the heart of Glendale, CA. Local amenities include Palmer Park, shopping, and restaurants. CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY: Glendale is considered a multi-ethnic community consisting of mainly Armenians, Causcasians, African Americans, and Hispanics. PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY: Glendale a suburb, located in the greater Los Angeles area about 10 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. It has a balmy Mediterrean climate which gives to great weather year round.
