GALAPAGOS ADVENTURE CRUISE ON M/V ORIGIN NORTHWESTERN ISLANDS

Itinerary Overview The luxurious M/V Origin debuted in 2016 and comes to us from a family with along seafaring history in the Galapagos Islands. The yacht weds an extraordinary level of comfort, cuisine, and expertise with the highest goals of sustainability. From the concierge service to top-notch naturalist guides, to state-of-theart equipment and furnishings, the Origin brings a new understanding of "evolution" to the Galapagos Islands. Explore the fascinating blend of Indian and Spanish culture in Quito, South America's oldest capital city and designated UN World Heritage Site, and voyage among the unique Galapagos Islands. Discover plants and animals unique to particular islands as you travel throughout the archipelago. Our expert naturalist guides explain how these species have evolved and adapted over time. During an 8 day cruise you will visit the major wildlife sites, including some of the more remote outer islands. Meet exotic and bizarre wildlife as you venture among cinder cones, lava flows, white and black sand beaches and rocky cliffs and cool off snorkeling in clear equatorial waters. Itinerary in Detail DAY 1: ARRIVE QUITO Arrive in Quito and transfer to La Casona de la Ronda a charming boutique-style hotel conveniently located on Quito s oldest pedestrian-only street, within easy walking to the colonial square. Overnight La Casona de la Ronda. Please Note: We can also accommodate our travelers with arrival and departure from Guayaquil on the delta of the broad Rio Guayas. Please inquire for rates and details. DAY 2: QUITO We begin our Ecuador vacation with a tour of colonial Quito, including the bustling Independence Plaza, the dazzling gold-leafed altars of La Compania Church, and the impressive San Francisco Church. Visit the Mitad del Mundo Equatorial marker and ethnographic village and museum for a fun and informative examination of the curiosities of life on the Equator. We will enjoy lunch al fresco at a lively café in the colonial square. Overnight La Casona de la Ronda. [BL] DAY 3: GALAPAGOS ISLANDS Transfer to the domestic airport this morning for your included flight to the Galapagos where you are met by your naturalist guide and transferred to the M/V Origin. After a welcome lunch, travel to the highlands to visit La Galapaguera, a breeding center for giant land tortoises in their natural habitat. Return to the yacht for the Captain s welcome cocktail and dinner. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 4: GENOVESA We spend the entire day on Genovesa (Tower), one of the most spectacular islands in Galapagos for bird species. This morning land at Darwin Bay, a coral sand beach where swallow-tailed and lava gulls gather near the tide pools. Enter a forest of Optunti a cactus and mangroves where colonies of great frigatebirds nest. In a dramatic display, the earthbound males inflate their red-throated pouches to attract females as they fly overhead. The trail leads through a rich inter tidal zone where your naturalist guide helps you identify a wide diversity of wildlife. After the walk, we can swim and snorkel from the beach with sea lions in these warmer northern waters. Following lunch, land at Prince Philip s Steps which takes you to the forest of Palo Santo trees, where red-footed boobies nest. Striking Nazca boobies nest near the trail. In an open lava field, observe large numbers of storm petrels, and if you are lucky, we will see the elusive short-eared owl. Following the walk, kayaks are available for paddling along the shoreline. Look for the beautiful red-billed tropic bird usually found in the crevices. Returning to the yacht, we set sail early to motor to the western islands. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 5: SANTA CRUZ Disembarking this morning onto the Zodiacs, visit Caleta Tortuga Negro (Black Turtle Cove). The Zodiacs maneuver through a series of coves and inlets surrounded by mangrove -3-

swamps. Here you may observe pairs of mating sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, and golden rays. Following lunch, visit Cerro Dragon on the northern tip of Santa Cruz Island. Along the trail, we find Darwin finches, Galapagos flycatchers, yellow warblers, Audubon shearwater, and the brilliantly colored endemic land iguanas. You may also observe the greater flamingo feeding in saltwater lagoons, as well as stilts, pintail ducks, sandpipers and more. The view from the summit of the hill is lovely, taking in the vast forest of opuntia cactus and fragrant palo santo trees. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 6: FERNANDINA / ISABELA Land at Punta Espinoza, Fernandina; the youngest and most pristine Island in Galapagos. Recent lava flows formed by an active volcano stretch their way around the coast. Hundreds of marine iguanas, the largest colony in Galapagos, bask in the sun along the rugged shoreline. Observe sea lion harems with resident bulls carefully guarding their territory. Flightless Cormorants build their nests on the point and Galapagos hawks soar overhead. After lunch, disembark at the base of Alcedo Volano, at Urbina Bay. Here we find 4 miles of exposed coastal seabed and remnants of marine life, brought to the surface during a dramatic uplift in 1954 following a volcanic eruption. You may observe nesting brown pelicans and flightless cormorants here, as well as giant marine iguanas. Later cross the Bolivar Channel where we often spot whales and dolphins riding the bow wave. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 7: ISABELA This morning take a Zodiac ride to Elizabeth Bay. We begin with a visit to a secluded cove lined with large red mangrove trees sheltering turtles, rays, and shore birds. Visit the rocky islets known as Las Marielas, where a colony of nesting penguins, flightless cormorants and giant marine iguanas may be found. This afternoon, land at Tagus Cove. Six volcanoes flowing together formed Isabela, the largest Island in Galapagos. During the walk, we discover a salt-water lagoon, a scenic overlook with a spectacular view of the surrounding ocean and neighboring islands, lava fields and volcanic formations. Graffiti dating back to the 1800's is scrawled on the rocky cliffs. Explore the coves by Zodiac or in one of our sea kayaks to find Galapagos penguins, boobies, pelicans and other seabirds. An excellent snorkeling opportunity is offered here after the walk. Following the evening s briefing and dinner, a sky full of stars draws us out on deck to observe the galaxy. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 8: SANTIAGO / RABIDA This morning stroll with your naturalist guide along the shoreline at Puerto Egas, Santiago looking for octopus, starfish and other sea life caught in the tide pools. At low tide, catch a glimpse of marine iguanas as they feed on exposed green algae. Watch for great blue herons, lava herons, American oystercatchers and yellow-crowned night herons. Our walk ends at the grottos, deep pools of clear water where we encounter fur seals, once on the verge of extinction. Before returning to the yacht, there is a snorkeling opportunity with opportunities to view massive numbers of brilliant tropical fish. As an alternative, you may use the kayaks to explore the marine environment. Following lunch this afternoon, we disembark on Rabida Island. Rabida sports the most diversified volcanic rocks of all the islands and is considered the geographic center of Galapagos. The dark red sand beach originated from the erosion of volcanic stones. Follow a trail leading to a saltwater lagoon, and hopefully observe greater flamingos as they feed. Brown pelicans also nest in the mangroves at the far side of the lagoon. Following the walk, the snorkeling is excellent at the beach. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] -4-

DAY 9: SANTA CRUZ Travel by bus to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. The scenery gradually changes as we wind our way through all seven vegetation zones found in Galapagos. Here we visit the tortoise reserve where we encounter giant tortoises in their natural habitat. We visit Los Gemelos, Spanish for The Twins, a pair of large pit craters, and habitat for the brilliant red male vermilion flycatcher. A special treat is a stop at "the tunnels," the largest lava tubes found in Galapagos, and eye-popping evidence of the Islands volcanic origins. Later, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station. Here you may observe all three tortoise corrals and the breeding center with new hatchlings and miniature tortoises not yet ready to be repatriated to the wild. Scientists come from all over the globe to work and conduct research at the station. We also visit the Van Straelen Hall with exhibits and a short video presentation. Back on board the yacht, enjoy the Captain s Farewell cocktail. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 10: RETURN TO QUITO / INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE After a morning visit to the San Cristobal Interpretation Center, your guide returns you to the airport for your included flight to Quito where you connect to your international departure. (please book your international departure for 8pm or later). [B] END OF SERVICES Actual routes and activities may vary. [BL] DAY 3: GALAPAGOS ISLANDS Transfer to the domestic airport this morning for your included flight to the Galapagos where you are met by your naturalist guide and transferred to Cerro Tijeretas or Frigatebird Hill. This is a great opportunity to spot nesting colonies of both species of frigatebirds, great and magnificent. Check in to your cabin and set sail for Leon Dormido, a vertical tuff cone formation rising abruptly nearly 500 from the ocean surface. On the ledges, you may spot Blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies and frigatebirds. This evening, your naturalist guides hold your first briefing followed by the Captain s welcome cocktail. Overnight onboard the luxurious M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 4: SAN CRISTOBAL This morning we visit Cerro Brujo, a breathtaking white powder-sand beach, said to be one of the most spectacular in Galapagos. Here we have an opportunity to snorkel or kayak directly from the beach, where you may spot turtles or flamingos. This afternoon visit the northeast tip of San Cristobal, Punta Pitt. This is a tuff formation that serves as a nesting site for many sea birds including blue footed, Nazca and red-footed boobies, frigatebirds, swallow-tailed gulls and storm petrels. Punta Pitt is considered to be a first-class site for birders, so don t forget your binoculars! Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 5: ESPANOLA Following breakfast land at Punta Suarez, where you witness the highest concentration of endemic species in Galapagos. Sea lions greet you while curious Hood mockingbirds peck at your shoelaces. From April to November the waved albatross, found only on Espanola, perform their mating ritual. Colonies of blue-footed boobies engage in sky-pointing to show off for potential mates while Nazca boobies care for their young and Red-billed tropicbirds take shelter under the cliffs. You also find Darwin s finches, Galapagos doves, and Galapagos hawks. Here you may observe a unique species of marine iguana identified with traces of red and green colorings. Colorful sally lightfoot crabs crawl along the shoreline near the dramatic "blow hole". -8-

This afternoon visit Gardner Bay. Walk along seemingly endless stretches of this white sandy beach where you ll find large colonies of sea lions. There is no trail to follow so this is a chance to explore and discover Galapagos hawks, Darwin s finches, or a Hood mockingbird. Swim with sea lions from the beach. Your expert naturalist guides can point you to an excellent snorkeling site off Gardner Islet with colorful diversity of sea life near Tortuga Rock or caves covered with invertebrates, or there are opportunities to kayak. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 6: FLOREANA This morning you step ashore at Punta Cormorant on Floreana, one of the few populated islands in the Galapagos. Floreana presents a rich history with mystery and intrigues worthy of a novel. Follow a trail to a brackish lagoon, home of the pintail ducks, common stilts, and the pinkest flamingos in the world. Your guide helps identify a rich variety of plants including morning glories, cutleaf daisies, palo verdes and scalesia, all while approaching a beach with powder soft sand. Sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand dunes and rays swim in the shallow water. After the walk, you have an opportunity to snorkel at Devil s Crown, a shallow sunken crater colonized by a brilliant array of colorful fish and coral. This afternoon visit Post Office Bay, probably the most famous site in Galapagos. Here you visit a post barrel, originally put into use in the late 18 th Century by sailors onboard English whaling vessels. You are invited to leave a post card and to pick up any mail from your home area. Overnight onboard the M/Y Eric or Letty. [BLD] DAY 7: SANTA CRUZ ISLAND Today travel via local chiva bus to the verdant highlands of Santa Cruz. The scenery gradually changes as you make your way through seven vegetation zones found in the Galapagos Islands. Visit a tortoise reserve, La Primicias, where you may observe the giant tortoises in their natural habitat. Next travel to the Los Gamelos twin pit craters and prime habitat to the vermilion flycatcher, a brilliant red streak of feathers in the greenery. Following lunch, visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, where scientists keep breeding corrals of all species of tortoises found on the islands. You may see brand new hatchlings as well as juvenile tortoises not yet ready to be released into the wild. This evening, you have the option to remain in the town of Puerto Ayora for dinner on your own. Zodiacs will be available for transfers through the evening. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 8: BARTOLOME / SANTA CRUZ Following breakfast visit Bartolome, a landscape reminiscent of walking on the moon. While inhospitable to most plants and animals, this young island is breathtaking in its stark beauty. Climb 30 minutes up stairs -9-

leading to the summit of a once active volcano. Along the way, you pause to marvel at lava bombs, spatter cones, and cinder cones. From the top of the wooden stairs, gaze out across the island for a panoramic view of the island and iconic "Pinnacle Rock", an eroded tuff cone. Down below, crystal clear water is an invitation to snorkel from the beach or Zodiac with schools of tropical fish and Galapagos penguins. After lunch, visit Las Bachas (The Barges) Beach, a long stretch of soft white sand and lagoons which provide habitat for the greater flamingo. Snorkeling from the beach here is a passenger favorite. Later, land at the sea lion colony at Sombrero Chino, and hike on a short trail to lava fields and tubes. Here you will find marine iguanas and opportunities to snorkel with penguins. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 9: SOUTH PLAZA / NORTH SEYMOUR This morning s visit is to South Plaza, a small geological uplift with tall cliffs offering spectacular views. Trails lead you through prickly pear cactus or opuntia and sesuvium. Here you find the Galapagos land iguana feeding on the cactus leaves. Toward the end of the hill, encounter a colony of bachelor sea lions. The dominant bulls will likely be in various stages of recovery from battles lost over prime beach territory. You also find swallow tailed gulls, shearwaters, and red-billed tropicbirds who build their nests along the cliffs. This afternoon, land at North Seymour. Here you may observe swallow-tailed gulls, blue-footed boobies, and the endemic land iguanas. Visit the largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds found in the Galapagos. Overnight onboard the M/V Origin. [BLD] DAY 10: RETURN TO QUITO After a morning visit to the San Cristobal Interpretation Center, your guide returns you to the airport for a fond farewell before your return flight to Quito. Flight to Quito included, please book your international departure for 8pm or later. [B] END OF SERVICES Actual routes and activities may vary.
