So far in 2017, Sevier County s labor market has displayed the best job-growth performance since 2015. Plus, most industries shared in this employment joy. Although the county s unemployment seems to have leveled-off in recent months, it remains below the year-ago figure. Perhaps more importantly, first-time claims for unemployment insurance continued to trend below the previous two years, an indication that the labor market remains healthy. Retail and wholesale trade sales performance kept figures on the upswing. In general, Sevier County s economy shows notable improvement in the first half of 2017. Jobs Job growth in Sevier County has bounced back after the slower expansion of 2016 with strong-to-moderate gains in 2017. Between June 2016 and June 2017, Sevier County added more than 240 new jobs for a year-to-year increase of nearly 3 percent. Most industries added new jobs, although a few showed little change. The tourism-driven leisure/hospitality services added the largest number of new positions. * Preliminary. Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; Utah Department of Workforce Services.
