INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTIAL GUESTS You will have the unique opportunity to live in a Cambridge College steeped in history. Founded in 1326 and re-founded in 1338, Clare is the second oldest Cambridge College. It is located in the centre of Cambridge and provides state of the art facilities as well as a true Cambridge atmosphere! The College campus spans the River Cam, with the 17th century Old Court lying east of the river and the 20th century buildings in the Memorial Court to the west. Porters Lodge The Porters lodge is open 24 hours a day, every day and delegates can arrive at anytime. On Arrival Visitors register at the Memorial Court Porters Lodge in Queen s Road, Cambridge, where a room key or access card will be issued. Rooms will be available from 15:00 on the day of arrival. A luggage room is always available. Please note delegates register on arrival at Memorial Court Porters Lodge, Queens Road and not at the Porters Lodge Old Court, Trinity Lane. On Departure On the day of departure, visitors are asked to vacate their rooms by 10:00. Bedrooms Facilities All rooms are provided with tea/coffee making facilities, towels and toiletries. Bedrooms are cleaned, towels changed and beds made every day. IT Facilities All bedrooms have wireless and wired broadband internet access and there are various wireless spots throughout the College. Delegates may also access the student computer suites which have internet access, email and a limited printing facility. Laundry Services Delegates are welcome to use the student laundry facilities in Memorial Court and Chesterton Lane. Please ask at the Porters Lodge for further information. Breakfast Breakfast is served in the Buttery at Old Court between 07:30 and 09:30. The Buttery is a 5 minute walk down the Avenue to Old Court. Security The College gates will normally be locked at midnight but the Memorial Court Porters Lodge is staffed 24 hours a day. It is not possible to walk through Old Court after midnight therefore, Garrett Hostel Lane should be used to access Memorial Court from the town centre if returning late. It is strongly recommended that delegates lock their rooms at all times. The College is not insured for loss or theft of any items belonging to visitors to the College. Lost Property Items left in the room will be kept for a maximum of 14 days. A minimum charge of GBP30 will be invoiced if the item is returned by post. Items may be collected in person or by courier. Illness In an emergency, the Porters Lodge in Memorial Court, which is manned 24 hours a day, should be contacted. The College has first aid facilities and an arrangement has been made with a nearby doctors surgery. Taxis The Porters in both Memorial and Old Court Lodges can arrange taxis on request. Parking Clare College offer parking, which must be booked in advance, at Memorial Court and at a nearby sports ground and this can be arranged by a member of the conference team. The postcode for this parking is CB3 0EQ. Public car parks are available at Park Street and the Grand Arcade both 300 meters from the College in central Cambridge. Travel Information Clare College is easily accessible by road, rail and air: Rail Cambridge Station is about a 25 minute walk to Clare College with buses running every 8 minutes into the centre of Cambridge. Taxis are also available outside the station. Cambridge is less than an hour from London by train with frequent departures from King s Cross and Liverpool Street stations, London. Information on trains are available from National Rail. Taxis are available for hire at Cambridge Station. Coach There are frequent services between London s Victoria Coach Station and Drummer Street Bus Station in Cambridge. Most services will terminate at Cambridge Bus Station, from here it is only a 5-minute walk to Clare Old Court. Information on coaches are available from National Express. Air Clare College is just 35 minutes from Stansted Airport via the M11 motorway. Heathrow and Gatwick are both approximately 2 hours away by rail or road. Regular rail and coach services are available from all three airports. There are frequent coach connections to Cambridge (Drummer Street Bus Station) from all three airports. By Road Cambridge is linked to London and the M25 by the M11 motorway. Exit at junction 12 for Barton Road or Junction 13 for Madingley Road. Access from the Midlands and North is via the A14 and A1. From whichever direction you approach you should make for the A14 to the north of Cambridge. Weather in Cambridge in August The weather in Cambridge in August is excellent for travelling. The average maximum daytime temperature in Cambridge in August is a comfortable 21 C (70 F). There are usually 9 hours of bright sunshine each day in August. There are not many days of rain, with 0 on average. Cambridge Attractions Memorial Court is just a 7 minute walk to historic Cambridge city centre. The market square, Fitzwilliam Museum, Kings College Chapel and a variety of other fantastic things to see and do are within walking distance.
