Welcome Letter Dear New Employee, Welcome to Jackson Tower! Here you will have an opportunity to work with an outstanding team of professionals that help make it a great place to work and to develop your skills. Your knowledge, abilities and positive attitude make you a highly regarded addition to our team, and I am certain that you will make a positive impact on our future. Jackson Tower Today Jackson Tower (9 th floor) and TRACON (7 th floor) are located on top of the terminal building. The Administrative offices are located on the 5 th floor of the terminal building. This makes it convenient for Tower employees to interact with employees from the Airport Authority and with the airlines and other services. There is a feeling of community among the people of the various offices. The Tower and TRACON are equipped with ASR-8 radar and all the state-of-the-art associated equipment. We have the Integrated Terminal Weather System (ITWS) and a radar training lab. The facilities and offices have been updated and modernized in recent years. The airport is equipped with parallel runways 8500 feet long that serve a mid-field terminal building. The Airport Authority has a modern cargo center that is served by the major cargo companies. The airport is also home to the 172nd Air National Guard Unit to which is assigned nine Heavy C-17 aircraft. 4

Policies Reporting for Duty Facility employees place an emphasis on prompt arrival for duty to ensure fairness and consistency for all. The policy for delayed arrivals caused by unforeseen circumstances is based on fairness and professional expectations. Hours of Duty Hours of operation for both the Tower and TRACON are 6:00 A.M. until 11:00 P.M. Parking FAA employees are granted free parking near the terminal building in the East Employee parking lot. The Airport Authority issues parking hang tags to all employees. Security The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority issues security badges to FAA employees for access to the various areas of the terminal building and ramp. The FAA issues badges/access control keys to its security doors. Both FAA and Airport security badges shall be worn at all times. Guests and Visitors The policy for allowing guests to the operational areas varies with the security level that has been established by the FAA and the Transportation Security Administration. Cell Phones Cell phones must be in the off position while in the Tower Cab or TRACON. 7
Lockers and Mail Boxes You will be issued a locker located in the hallway outside the TRACON. Mail boxes are located in the sign on area in the radar room and are used for delivery of official FAA materials. Smoking Smoking is prohibited in the building except where designated. The designated smoking area is on the 8th floor under the tower cab. The smoking room door shall be closed at all times and the fan shall be on when the room is occupied. Inclement Weather Personnel shall make all reasonable efforts to report for their assigned shifts. If unable, contact the facility as soon as possible. 8
Local Area Information Jackson Profile The Jackson metropolitan area has a population of approximately 500,000 people that reside in the three-county area. Although Jackson-Evers international Airport is located in Hinds County, It is owned and operated by the city of Jackson, which is located in Hinds County. The area boasts a wide range of communities, from urban, suburban, lakes, country and rural living, all within easy commute to the Jackson-Evers International Airport. Jackson also has a growing Arts community, including; the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, New Stage Theater Group, Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet, and the International Ballet Competition every four years. The Jackson Area also hosts numerous entertainment festivals, some of these are; Dixie National Rodeo in February, Crossroads Film Festival in April, Canton Flea Market in May & Oct., and Jubilee Jam Music Festival in June. 9
Sporting and Special Events Professional sports in the Jackson area include Mississippi Braves Double A baseball at the Trustmark Park complex in Pearl that includes The Bass Pro Shop. The USGA Viking Golf Classic is held in early fall at Annandale Golf course in Madison. There is also PBR Bull Riding at the Dixie National Rodeo in February, and the Wal-Mart FLW bass fishing tournament is held on the Ross Barnett Reservoir each year. 10
The Jackson Metro area is home to Jackson State University, Mississippi College, Belhaven College and Millsap s College: These schools compete in all major collegiate sports. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and University of Southern Mississippi are all major Universities within 3 1/2 hours of Jackson. Outdoor activities abound in Mississippi, from bicycling and walking trails to tennis and golf at one of the numerous sites around Jackson. The weather allows for almost year round enjoyment of our great recreational opportunities. 11
The State of Mississippi is blessed with some of the best hunting and fishing in the eastern United States. Whitetail Deer, migratory ducks and Mourning Dove hunting are major attractions to sportsmen all over the central U. S. There is also excellent salt water fishing opportunities approximately 3 hours south along the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast.
