President Micah Ramos graduated from Kea au High School and is currently a junior majoring in Music and Communications. Last year she served as the club s VP. VP Kelli Yamane graduated from Mililani High School and is now a senior majoring in Chemistry. She s been a Rotaract member for 3 years and has served as her club s secretary and president. President Micah talked about their officers for this year; herself, VP Kelli Yamane, Secretary Shelby Tanaka, Treasurer Kris Sumaoang, Sergeant at Arms: Jenifer Ucol, and Historian Lenie Tolentino. She also listed a few projects that they did last year; Operation Christmas Child, MADD booths at County Fair, Relay for Life, and Rainbow Animal Sanctuary. VP Kelli talked about the projects that they did over the summer, which included club socials on O ahu and the Big Island, in addition to installing bulletin boards at Kea au High School and Puhi Bay beach clean-up. President Micah then talked about another project that the Big Island Rotaracts did this summer which involved ginger eradication on Mauna Kea with the Circle K Club. She then mentioned the projects that they are planning to do next year, that involved many of the same projects like Rainbow Animal Sanctuary, Relay for Life, beach clean-ups, and working on Mauna Kea, as well as new projects like a MADD Halloween event. Not pictured, but also recognized were Recycling Chair Roy Takemoto and RCCHB VP Kellie Yagi.

PRESIDENT S ANNOUNCEMENTS Oktoberfest is coming! Please send your donation forms to Carol or Sharon, drop off items to my office and sign up for a committee. Our Polio Plus total is up to $368 as of August 21. UH Hilo International Students Welcome dinner will be held on Friday, August 30th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the UH Student Life Center swimming pool. September is Youth Service Month Anita and Kellie will be including articles on Rotaract/Interact/Earlyact/RYLA/RYE/HRYF in newsletters during September. Qualified GSE team member applications are due in September! Keiki Vision Hilo Union, September 5 at 8:00 am This is a great project to help a child who needs glasses. We need members to sign up! UH Hilo Rotaract President Micah Ramos and Vice President Kelli Yamane enjoying their breakfast before the meeting started. Literacy Day is September 8 We will be accepting books to donate to St. Joseph High School. World Polio Day is October 24 District 5000 Polio Plus Day is Saturday, October 26 Hopefully we will have a RCHB Polio Plus Team participate in YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. District Assembly November 2, 2013 from 9:00-3:00 pm at DeLuz Toyota. New members are encouraged to attend. Lindsay Barclay of the Volcano Rotary Club enjoying his Rotary Club of Hilo Bay breakfast. District Conference is set for May 2-4, 2014 RI Convention June 1-4, 2014 in Sydney, Australia ANNOUNCEMENTS BY OTHERS Lindsay Barclay from Rotary Club of Volcano Invited Hilo Bay Rotarians to attend their Lobsterfest from 11-1 pm at the Wailoa State Park main pavilion. $50 for all you can eat lobster and shrimp $40 for just shrimp $30 for keiki (11 and under) Kenneth Goodenow Oktoberfest will be here shortly. Vocational Pau Hana Social at Volcano Winery and KTA Working with St. Joseph Interact YES Sol Leslie Kislig attended D5000 Orientation Working with UH Hilo Rotaract September is New Generation Month! That covers Rotaract, Interact, RYLA, and Rotary Youth Exchange! We will be featuring these New Generation area in our newsletters this month. Keiki Vision is starting! Please sign up for this important project! Each year, children with blurry vision, reading problems, and other eye problems are screening and referred for eye care. The Recycling Committee will be collecting food during the month of September. If you have extra food in your pantry, please donate it for the hungry! Oktoberfest is just around the corner! Hope you sold your 6 tickets. Oktoberfest is our Club s major fundraiser for our Club s projects. Please sign up to help at the event! This is our Club s 100% participation event. He is taking the fifth on how fast he was driving.
