12 Date 25 th April 2012 Venue: Jolly Farmer Cliddesden Apologies: Hayley Gillingham, Roy & Marilyn Martin, Chris Parfitt, Colin & Sharon Jacobs, Alison Elkin, Jason Winter, Martin Wheeler. Last years minutes: Agreed Chairman s Report: Mark said he had no major comment to make. Mentioned that the festival pays for the majority of the club insurance. He was happy with static membership. He had no comment to make on the current state of affairs regarding membership as all clubs are in the same position. New members were always welcome. It was said that there was not much to offer new members regarding events. It was said that club should actively support new members who wish to attend other festival and events. Mark said he was open to ideas. Secretary s Report: As Marilyn was absent she had sent membership details which were read out. For 2011 2012 season we had 46 members. Income from membership was 325 Marilyn would be at the Jolly Up for people to join there. Paul W said he never received any information about membership. It was discussed that the constitution should be given out when joining. One idea was the constitution be put on the web site or emailed. Emailed or sent by post would be better. Don S asked what was the procedure if someone has an accident. David said Report it to a committee member. Treasurers Report: David went through 2011 2012 accounts. Mark asked about having a list of club assets as we should have a list of club kites. Peter R to hold list of club kites. Insurance: It turned out last year that club members as individuals were not covered by insurance policy as we had believed i.e. only covered for the festival and club meetings once a month. David said he asked White Horse kite flyers how they were covered: They had two levels, one was for festival and meetings and a separate one for individuals excluding Power Kiting. Brokers sent 160 page document. David said our own insurance still covered us for the festival and club meetings but if the club was affiliated to the British Kiting Association individual members could 3
get separate insurance for themselves. If the club decided to be affiliated to the BKA individual insurance would cost 10.50for single/dual line and 15 for Buggying. David said that he felt it would be ideal to stay with Academy for the club insurance, which would be 416 then be affiliated to the BKA 50 (club to pay) Mark brought up the issue of do we affiliate to BKA Peter proposed joining the BKA, Agreed. It was then agreed to raise the price of membership fees to 12 for single, 17 for joint and 22 for family. Events Report: Alan reported that he had done two children s kite workshops last year. One was for the World party run by the council and another for a fete in Church Crookham. He attended an Easter fun day at Richard Aldworth school but as he had no takers he finished early. He mentioned that last year it was talked about having a club picnic on one of the flying days at the Buggy field but it had not got any further. Alan said the club used to have club anniversary party s but that fell by the wayside. Festival Report: Alan thanked everyone who helped out at the 2011 festival and repeated as in previous years that it was due to the fact that it was a joint effort. This years festival planning was going well and that guests were nearly the same as last year. They include: Chris Goff, Carl Robertshaw, Nick James, Janneke Groen, Michel-Marie Bougard, Kelvin Woods, Team Spectrum, Close Encounters and maybe Flying Squad. There will be a meeting on the 30 th May at the Jolly Farmer to go over what needs to be done at the festival Nick and Meg volunteered to escort the Mayor on the Sunday. Election of Officers: Chairman: Mark Secretary: Marilyn Treasurer: David Events: Alan Festival: Alan 12 AOB: Pete R asked people to send him a list of club kites if they held any. 4

2012 Hi folks Don t forget to come along on the Wednesday 30th May to the Jolly Farmer If you want to help out at the festival (helpers get a ticket for the Saturday evening bash) if you can t make it and still want to help out just email me at alan@basingstokekitefestival.org.uk Although we have more Kite traders these days we are getting a bit thin on the ground for raffle prizes, so this year we are asking club members to have a look in their cupboards for stuff (kite related we hope) to donate, as always the profits go towards the Mayors Charity, so if you would have a look we would be most grateful. For the Sunday evening at the Jolly we need you contribute as last year to help pay for the food. Many thanks Alan To view the latest kite calendar please click on the link below Kite Calendar 9
