For Expert Advice Call 01722 744695 A unique occasion deserves a unique experience. https://www.weekendalacarte.co.uk/special-occasion-holidays/destinations/turkey/istanbul-cappadocia-short-break/ Exotic Istanbul & Fairy Chimney Cappadocia Break available: Mid April - Early October 4 Night Break Istanbul is one of the most exciting and contrasting cities in the world offering a wealth of sights and sounds with mosques, palaces, churches with the Bosphorus dividing it into the two contrasting halves of Asia and Europe. It is indeed an evocative and magical city. Combine this with the beauty and peace of the nature of Cappadocia as you explore the dramatic landscape and cave dwellings that have been hollowed out of the Fairy Chimneys. Staying in a boutique cave hotel in a special experience and certainly makes for a unique, romantic and unusual short break. Highlights 2 night stay in a Unique Cave Room in Cappadocia boutique hotel 2 nights in central Istanbul hotel Private visit to the underground Kaymakli City & Fairy Chimneys in Urgup & Goreme. Private Bosphorus cruise Private Tour of Istanbul including Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace & Grand Bazaar Day by Day Itinerary Day 1: Fly to Istanbul and onto Kayseri Cappadocia. Private Transfer to Hotel On arrival you will be met for your private transfer to your hotel to start your special weekend away. Evening at leisure Day 2: Private tour Fairy Chimneys of Devrent Valley, Goreme, Ushisar Castle page 1/7

A private guide will drive you to see the amazing fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, and to visit the beautiful examples of Byzantine art in the rock-cutted open air monasteries of Goreme, each with their own fantastic church, with fascinating frescoes still vibrant in their original colours. You will continue to explore the amazing rock formation in the Devrent valley and the Zelve-Pasabag where the voice of wind mixes with the songs of fairies. The Devrent Valley is unique in Cappadocia in so far as it does not have any cave churches, tombs or castles. Infact it was never inhabited. Here you come to see the spectacular lunar-like landscape. After lunch at local restaurant visit Avanos which has been the center of terra-cotta works of art since the Hittites in 2,000 BC, and continues to offer many family run potteries. The old town winds up the hill featuring traditional Ottoman architecture in a maze of old stone houses. Finally you end at Uchisar castle, the highest point of the region, where you will have a fabulous panoramic view over Cappadocia. A perfect ending to the first full day of your Cappadocia weekend break. A la Carte Optional Extras Hot Air Balloon Trip over Goreme This flight begins with a pick-up from your hotel about one hour before sunrise. We will travel to one of take-off sites, depending on the wind direction and prepare the balloon for flight. The inflation takes about 20 minutes and is the perfect time to get some impressive photos of the inflation process in the early morning light. The gentle gliding motion of the hot air balloon through the rock formations and up to the low clouds is a comforting sensation. With vineyards, orchards, unique architecture of ancient villages, many diverse rock formations and mountain ranges to see, this one hour flight option is perfect to see the whole area from a bird s eye view! Each flight is completely different as the wind determines the general direction. After landing we ll celebrate our return to the ground with a glass of local champagne. The champagne toast has been the traditional way of finishing the hot air balloon flight since the Montgolfier Brothers first flight in France in 1873. Fruit juice is also available for those who do not drink alcohol. This is only confirmed and payable locally though we can prebook your interest so please do advise us at time of booking. Price Per Person: From 160 Whirling Dervishes page 2/7

The mystical Sufi trance movements of the Whirling Dervishes will delight your senses and take you on a spiritual journey with the live music and graceful movements. Inspired by Rumi more than 800 years ago, these movements of the Sema symbolize the mystic cycle to reach perfection. With his hat (his ego s tombstone) and his white skirt (his ego s shroud), he removes his black cloak and begins his spiritual whirl to transcend this world reaching perfection. The dance is enchanting and the setting couldn t be more perfect as it is performed inside a 13th century renovated Silk Road caravanserai. The ceremony lasts about 45 minutes, with a quick slideshow about Turkey, and a traditional religious beverage of serbet after the ceremony. The Dervishes also reappear after the ceremony to whirl for photos. Children under the age of 12 years are not permitted. The ceremonies take place in early evening. Price per person: 55 Half Day Horse Riding Through the Fairy Chimneys The magnificent landscapes and colourful valleys of Cappadocia are the perfect place to explore on horseback. The horses of Cappadocia were once given as gifts to the Sultans and it is thought that the name of Cappadocia comes from the ancient Persian Katpatuka or Land of Beautiful Horses. The local ranchers learn to ride before they can walk, and the ancient caves in this region are often still used as stables, keeping the horses warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Riding in the saddle gives a unique vantage point to view the spectaculars scenery, with places to stop along the way. The ride is 1 hr along the beautiful banks of the red river. You will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel. Price Per Person: From 40 Day 3: Hike through Red Valley, Visit subterranean city of Kaymakli, Fairy Chimneys in Urgup with Private Guide. Fly to Istanbul page 3/7

This morning you will walk through the Red Valley by the untouched rock-hewn churches and natural rock formations to the ancient greek Cavusin village for lunch. Enjoy local food in a evocative cave restaurant. Afterwards visit the extraordinary 7th Century Subterranean City of Kaymakli founded by Christians fleeing persecution, and one of the largest of its time believed to house over 3,500 people in it s prime. Finally on your Cappadocia private tour visit some of the most famous of Fairy Chimneys in Urgup area before transferring for your flight to Istanbul. In Istanbul you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your Istanbul city break. Day 4Private Tour of Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and Grand Bazaar & Cistern. On your first full day of your romantic weekend away start by visiting the Byzantine Hippodrome where chariot races were held. In its heyday, it held 100,000 spectators and was decorated by obelisks and statues, some of which remain in place today. The Hippodrome was the centre of Byzantium s life for a 1000 years and of Ottoman life for another 400 years, and was often the scene where Sultans took a barometer of their subjects content. Continue on to see the Blue Mosque, called blue because of the stunning interior tiles, and one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. Built between 1609 and 1616 it is still an active Mosque. It is also unusual as it has 6 minarets whilst 2 or 4 are more usual. This is rumoured to have been a translation mistake between the Sultan and his architect! Next up is Hagia Sophia considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and is the only building in the world that served three religions at different times; Pagan, Christian Orthodox and Sunni Islam. Hagia Sophia was built by the order of the Eastern Roman emperor Justinian at the 6th century AD on top of a pagan temple. and relics such as nails from the true cross and the shroud of Mary were some of the very important treasures until the crusaders attack. It is believed that the greatness of the building effected Russia in such a way as to choose Orthodox Christianity rather than Catholicism. Hagia Sophia was of course also a feature in Dan Brown s Inferno book which has recently raised its prominence again. You will also see the extraordinary Byzantine cistern, constructed using 336 columns, many of which were salvaged from ruined temples and feature fine carving. Designed to service the Great Palace it was able to store up to 80,000 cubic metres of water delivered via 20km of aqueducts from a reservoir near the Black Sea, but was closed when the Byzantine emperors relocated from the Great Palace. After lunch (not included) continue your Istanbul Weekend Break by visiting the highlights of the Topkapi Palace the former residence of the Ottoman Sultans built in the 15th century. The Palace contains a spectacular collection of jewellery and imperial treasures including the Spoonmakers diamond, the 4th largest diamond in the world. Finally enter the oldest and biggest Bazaar in the world with over 4000 shops and 60 alleyways -a shoppers paradise, but be prepared to haggle hard!! Day 5: Bosphorus private cruise, Visit Spice Market. Private Transfer to airport page 4/7

Board a private 1 1/2hr boat for a cruise up the Bosphorus Strait for a chance to relax and admire the shoreline with beautiful mosques, lavish palaces, decadent villas and summer mansions as well as the Bosphorus Bridge one of the world s largest suspension bridges. A super way to see many of the cities highlights and you will truly feel like a VIP on this day. Disembark on the European side of the Straits for a stroll through the colourful and aromatic Spice market before being driven to the airport for your flight home at the end of your special weekend break in Istanbul & Cappadocia. A la Carte Optional Extras Take a Turkish Bath at the Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam The Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam in Istanbul was designed and built by the chief Ottoman architect, at the request of Hurrem Sultan, the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century (1556-1557 AD). It was built where the ancient public baths of Zeuxippus (100-200 AD) used to stand, between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The area is also particularly significant as it is the site where the Temple of Zeus once stood. The hamam was operational until 1910 when it closed for many years until it was restored in 1957. It is considered one of the most beautiful monuments in Istanbul and a Turkish Bath here is a great experience. There are various packages, but we have chosen the Extravagant Pleasures lasting 80 mins as our recommendation for you to truly experience a Turkish Bath. This package includes:a gold-plated ottoman bath bowl, a traditional bath wrap (pestamal) and slippers for use in the hamam A toiletries set with comb, bath glove, olive oil soap, Judas tree essential oil shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion Traditional body scrub and relaxing bubble wash Judas tree essential oil skin refining peel Judas tree essential oil moisturizing body clay mask Judas tree essential oil aromatherapy massage within the Sultan s section Turkish delight, sherbet ( Ottoman Drink ) tea and Turkish coffee Price Per Person: From 155 (If added after Bosphorus Cruise) Price Per Person: From 195 (If on free morning as need assistant) page 5/7
