While here we will also enjoy an historic walking tour of Churchill Downs Racetrack. After lunch (not included) we will depart Louisville for Nashville. This evening we will attend The Show That Made Country Music Famous, The Grand Ole Opry. What began as a simple radio broadcast in 1925 is today a live entertainment phenomenon. Dedicated to honoring country music s rich history and dynamic present, the Grand Ole Opry showcases a mix of country legends and the contemporary chart-toppers who have followed in their footsteps. Saturday, May 25 th Day 5 Nashville, TN Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we will make our way back to the Grand Ole Opry for a backstage tour. Your knowledgeable guide will share stories about the Opry and country music greats, past and present, show you photos from the Opry s biggest moments in history, and take you to the artist entrance where legends, new artists, and superstars alike walk into the Opry House on the night of an Opry show. After lunch (not included) we depart for downtown Nashville where we will be met by a local Step-On Guide for a sightseeing tour of the city. Nashville is the home of country music, the Athens of the South, and features landmarks such as the Ryman Auditorium, the Parthenon, State Capital of Tennessee, and Bicentennial Park. Following the tour we will have free time to explore downtown Nashville. Check out the many restaurants and honky-tonks on lower Broadway such as Legends Corner, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, The Stage, and The Second Fiddle. You may also wish to visit the Johnny Cash Museum, George Jones Museum or the many downtown shops. This morning we begin on Nashville s famed Music Row with a tour of Historic RCA Studio B, Nashville s oldest remaining recording studio where over 35,000 songs were recorded here by artists such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and even more recently, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood. Following the guided tour, groups will gather around the legendary microphone for a recording session with a professional sound engineer. Next we will visit the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. As the world s largest music museum, the Country Music Hall of Fame gives country music fans the ultimate experience, displaying everything from rhinestone costumes to tear-stained lyric sheets. The mansion, once the home of country music megastar Barbara Mandrell, boasts over 20 rooms, 13 bathrooms, 5 fireplaces, 2 kitchens, an indoor pool, and even an indoor shooting range. After our visit we will make our way to Pigeon Forge, TN. This evening we will arrive at our host hotel, the Hampton Inn & Suites Pigeon Forge on the Parkway. Our local guide will take us to the top of the mountains and back with an array of history, stories, and legend about the area and the people that inhabited it before the park was formed. Here you will find over 40 distinct merchants offering locally made goods such as art, pottery, quilts, baked goods, jams, and relishes.
