It is also where we collect our local guide for a tour of the town made famous by the POW Camp located here during WWII. We start by viewing the award winning hologram in the P.O.W. theatre, a nine minute presentation that tells the story of the Cowra Breakout in 1944. On our town tour we will visit the Australian World Peace Bell, the Cowra Italy Friendship
Monument and the Australian & Japanese War Cemeteries, containing the graves of the Japanese involved in the POW Breakout during World War II. This is the only Japanese War Cemetery in Australia. Our morning tea is served right next door to the Visitors Centre, at the Rose Garden Coffee House. Next is a visit to the Cowra Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre. Meandering paths and wooden bridges allow us to explore and view the gardens at ease. It s a beautiful time to visit as the cherry trees in the gardens should be in full flower! We have plenty of time here to wander or relax and enjoy the gardens. This afternoon we head to Canowindra, visiting Rosnay Farm to tour and taste some of their organic wines. We also have time to enjoy a wander through the town before returning to Cowra. Lunch own arrangements and cost OVERNIGHT: Cowra Services Club Motel, COWRA

These beautiful woolly Merino sheep are shepherded down the road by a Farmer on his four wheel motorbike and his trusty Kelpies who leap on and off the motorbikes and on and off the sheeps back. There is plenty to see and do at the Woolfest - the Blessing of the Sheep, Celtic Pipe Bands, Irish Dancers and craft, food and wool stalls to maybe purchase a souvenir from. Originally named Lambing Flat, the town is steeped in early gold mining history. Gold was discovered here in 1860 and within months there were 20,000 prospectors on the fields! From here we travel through small rural towns of Wombat and Wallendbeen to Junee where we stop at the Monte Cristo Homestead and experience life from a bygone era. We will view the magnificent collection of fine antiques and renowned carriage collection. This remarkable homestead was built in 1884 and is recognized as the most haunted house in Australia, with 10 resident ghosts! We ll have lunch here before continuing on through Wagga Wagga to Albury for our overnight. cut into the mountain side. A panorama unfolds over the King Parrott Valley and further to the distant snow-capped peaks in winter of the Victorian Alps.
