One Day of Service April 5, 2014 at Camp Wokanda Hosted by the Wotamalo District, to serve and preserve Camp Wokanda. Will your troop or crew be among the hundreds of Scouts, Scouters, and parents who will enjoy the 2014 One Day of Service at Camp Wokanda? To give back to the camp that has given so much to area Scouting for so long, Boy Scouts and Venturers from across the council will assemble at Camp Wokanda for a full day of cheerful service, camping, fellowship, and fun. Jobs may include (but are not limited to) removing invasive species, painting buildings, trenching and water mitigation, split/stack/stock wood, and trail repair. This would also be a perfect day and place for one of your Scouts to complete his Eagle project. Contact Wokanda ranger Jacob Mol for details (jmol@peoriaparks.org). OF SPECIAL NOTE: We also hope to deconstruct and possibly move Apache Cabin to a safer location away from the creek. Details on this project are still developing. ANOTHER SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: Information on a very special contest will be coming to you soon. Plans are for a mural in camp are taking shape. Units will soon be asked to submit their design ideas, and the unit that submits the winning design will receive a free cabin camping weekend at Wokanda. Stay tuned for more details Before the event, you will be able to select from a list of jobs that match your youth and adult skills. Your youth leaders will then be able to prepare your Scouts for the day. You can count your troop or crew s service on this day toward Journey to Excellence criteria, and it will qualify Scouts for rank advancement service requirements. Your unit may tent camp at no cost for all or part of the weekend in the games field across from the bathhouse. Please contact Cathy Lane at 309/264-1423 or cathy@fishel.com to reserve one or more 30 x 30 campsites. This service day is being held in conjunction with Wotamalo s annual Pathways celebration, where area Cub Scouts will enjoy a full day of outdoor adventures. Encourage your packs to tent or cabin camp. Invite them to cracker barrel. It s the perfect time to recruit new Scouts.
Please bring your newest Boy Scouts, those who just crossed over this year. Introduce them to cheerful Scout service and/or work on advancements in camp.
