Bob DeLong B-3 member Our long time member, Bob DeLong, who has had several health issues over the last few years passed away on Feb 3, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was a member of GWRRA since July 2, 2002. He was 71 years old at the time of his passing. As you can see by the above photo he was a fun loving man, a great family man, enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and his B-3 family. Anyone he met immediately became a friend. He loved riding his Gold Wing 1800 yellow Trike and was up for any kind of adventure. The picture above was taken in 2012 in Oregon by Margaret Moore on a trip out west. Page 3

Bob DeLong enjoying chapter activities. Page 4

Robert Michael DeLong Harry and I were Chapter Directors when we received a phone call from a couple wanting information about Chapter B-3. I m not sure where he got our number from, but he and Harry had a long conversation and he seemed really interested. When he said he was from Nelsonville I said he can t be too bad a fellow so we invited them to our next gathering. Little did we know that Bob and Evelyn would become one of our most active and loved members of B-3. We always called him Bob cause that s how he introduced himself to us, but Evelyn called him Mike. So, sometimes I called him Mike/Bob. He answered to either one. Bob loved riding his yellow trike and they took several long trips with the chapter over the years, traveling to Ky. W. Va. Etc. He finally was able to buy the newer yellow trike and loved leading the chapter on our Fall Ride in October usually to Nelsonville (that s my home town too). When he became ill and wasn t able to ride anymore we missed them both on the rides and at our gatherings. They were always there when they were needed and ready to help out on anything. We will miss Bob terribly and hope to keep Evelyn active in our Chapter. Let s give her all our encouragement and keep her with us. Love you Evelyn. Harry & Sandy Durbin Page 5

Margaret Moore Chapter Director Cabin Fever3-4 February 2017 The Wild, Wild West was never wilder than what we had at the Mohican State Park Lodge early in February. We had games, food, singing, comedy and a costume parade. Oh my, what a sight! We even had a horse, saddle and weapons (fake of course). There were 13 chapter members that attended and had fun, met old and made new friends. Karen Ballou developed a bowling game called Boot Hill Bowling and we had a lot of people attempted to be the Champion Bowler. But the top bowler turned out to be our own Don Cunningham with a top score of 232. At the February gathering I had the pleasure of presenting Don his Champion Bowler Certificate. Pictured below is Pam Vogel who took over the task of keeping score. Not an easy task as she was the backstop for the bowling balls!. Page 6

Our Region D Couple of the Year, Gary and Karen Ballou, competed in the Costume Parade of the Wild, Wild West The Stage Coach was built by Amanda Stufflebeam. It had to be powered by a mouse trap, but it did not go very far, but it took Second Place for the Theme. Robert Vogel placed Third for distance with 30 feet and a few inches. We even had a Casino (fake money was used). I played about three hands of UNO and won one hand, Amanda and Rob played one hand before we called it quits. Below are a few more pictures from Cabin Fever. Page 7

Pam is shown Playing POGO. New CDs are sworn in by Rudy and Linda Copeland Howard and Judy Kern and Sue Gundy taking pictures. Page 8

Pam Vogel is shown watching the Entertainment. Rob Stufflebeam, Pam Vogel watching Amanda play POGO. Next year, 2017, the theme will be Food Mascots. I hope more of our members will go and plan on dressing up as a food mascot. Take your pick and go enjoy the fun and camaraderie. Margaret Moore Chapter Director (Pending) Page 9

Rob Stufflebeam Assistant Chapter Director COUPLE OF THE YEAR 2017 Robert and Pam Vogel MEMBERSHIP ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM Mary Bayes "JUST ASK" It is not really hard to find a new friend, "JUST ASK". Usually all you have to do tell them about GWRRA and give them the opportunity to join. After all, all they can say is no. Just say NEXT and go ask the next person. Think about it, that's probably how you were recruited into the Association, someone just asked you to join. So, please don't be discouraged if some say no. Recruitment is the heart of a healthy and growing Association. You are proud of GWRRA, so go out there and talk to those people you don't recognize as belonging to GWRRA. Just strike up a conversation, tell them about the Association. Tell them about your Chapter and what all you did as a Chapter last year. Tell them about all the benefits there are to belonging to GWRRA. I'm sure if you tell them about the Gold Book, Wing World magazine, pins, patches, decals, membership card, and other benefits such as Rider Education (motorcycle safety) Program, high mileage program, technical assistance, GWRRA Internet Web page, and GWRRA-sponsored cruises, maybe they will listen. All of these benefits plus Rescue Plus (emergency roadside service), not only for your motorcycle, but for your cars and or trucks that are automatically included in this program...all the above and many more benefits they will receive when joining GWRRA... RECRUITING IS WHAT MAKES GWRRA AND YOUR (OUR) CHAPTER GROW... Always remember: RIDE SAFE AND ALWAYS HAVE FUN Page 10

PLEASE REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING: Evelyn DeLong and family: The passing of Bob. Who was loved by all... Bill Ford: Now undergoing Chemo...Also please remember Esther as she cares for Bill... Robert Vogel: His father is having health problems... Carolyn Sittler: Her mother has serious health problems... Gladys Carter: Now in Florida and recovering from health problems... Ed Richards: We are so glad is getting back to really feeling better... We have so many Members that have been ill, we want to wish them a speedy recovery Keep all in your thoughts and prayers... SHOULD I HAVE MISSED SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW... THE MORE YOU KNOW THE BETTER IT GETS!!!! MOTORIST AWARENESS DIVISION Karen Ballou RIDER EDUCATION DIVISION Gary Ballou Rider Ed for It s (almost) Spring! We ve had an awfully mild winter so far. Maybe we ll pay for it with a March blizzard or two. Let s hope for some decent riding opportunities in March, as we bring our trusty Gold Wings out of hibernation. Occasionally, we hear a horror story from members who get an unpleasant surprise when they lift the cover that has been protecting their bike over the winter. CRITTER damage! Imagine that that a nice sheltered space under a motorcycle cover would invite Mr. & Mrs. Mouse to move in for a couple of months, make a nice soft nest out of a custom motorcycle seat and raise a few youngsters while they re in their new condo. And chew up Page 11

a few other things in the process. (Now, wasn t it nice of you to disconnect the battery, so they wouldn t get hurt?) What I m trying to say is: Don t assume that your motorcycle is in the same condition it was in when you tenderly covered it and put it to bed for the winter. Check it over carefully at wake-up time, with a Pre- Season T-CLOCS. Check the (T)ires for any flat spots, bulges, etc., that may have formed while the bike was sitting still. Also (naturally), expect some loss of tire pressure. Check the (C)ontrols for any minor rust/corrosion that might have occurred and smooth operation. After you re-connect the battery, re-check the (L)ights, switches and cables for proper operation. A quick check for puddles, etc., should tell you if the (O)il and other fluids are at proper level, assuming you checked them last fall. Go over the (C)hassis carefully. looking for any signs of damage. Mr. & Mrs. Mouse, or Mr. & Mrs. Beetle, or Mr. & Mrs. Stinkbug, etc., may have found a cozy spot in one of the crevices. If you still have/use a (S)ide stand and center(s)tand, this is a good time to lubricate them for spring/summer. A few extra pounds of tire pressure may be all you need. But check everything anyway! Special Activities Coordinator Hello everyone, the next Obetz community activity will be the Easter egg hunt which will be on April 8, 2017. This will conflict with our gathering. There for we will not be available to volunteer. We can however support the community by bringing in nonperishable food items for their food pantry. Some needed items are box dinners, canned meat (tuna, chicken, spam...), peanut butter and cereal. Please make an effort to bring some of these items to the March and April gatherings. Thanks so very much. With Easter being later this year hopefully the weather will be warmer than last year. However watching the kiddos gather the eggs is heartwarming. Hope to see many of you there. Look for more information in the April newsletter. The events scheduled are not just for the officers. One of the goals of GWRRA is FUN. It isn't as much fun without you there. The tentative schedule for 2017 has been planned, but there is space for more. There are some FUN and Exciting activities scheduled. Please be a part of your chapter. If you have ideas for rides/activities let Margaret Moore know, as there is plenty of space to add activities and destinations. Rider Education programs will follow the Gatherings in March and April. March 4: CO-RIDER. This is for everyone, but especially for those co-riders who need an update to stay current at Level II, Level III and Level IV in the Rider Education Program. April 1: ROAD CAPTAIN. (No foolin!) This is especially for any of our newer members who would like to be checked off as a Group Ride Leader or Drag Bike aka Tail-Gunner ; this seminar will walk you through the GWRRA Group Riding Protocols. This class is NOT REQUIRED in order to participate as a Lead or Drag, but for everyone s continued safety, it is highly recommended. There is a short indoor section, and then each new ROAD CAPTAIN will have an opportunity to take turns at Lead & Drag, in a group of 5-7 bikes, on a pre-determined 4-5 mile road course. Your participation is completely voluntary, but the class is FREE and your completion card will allow you to purchase (& proudly wear!) the ROAD CAPTAIN rocker on your vest. Page 14
