The 15 required items in the contest: 1. A photo of your family holding an issue of Pennsylvania Magazine from 2018 in front of a public sign showing the name of your hometown (where you live). One (or all) of the people in this photo must appear in the photos for items 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13. 2. A photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo wearing a personal flotation device next to an official sign designating the location of a Pennsylvania Water Trail. The sign must indicate the name of the trail. 3. Three souvenir coins (pressed pennies, where 51-cents [or $1.01] becomes a keepsake) from three different attractions each located in a different region of Pennsylvania as defined by the map in the Pennsylvania Magazine events section. Use pennies with 1982 or earlier dates (optional) for best looking souvenir coins. Paste the coins on the entry form. 4. A ticket for passage or a ride on a boat in Pennsylvania. 5. An photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo with an item that has a displayed blue ribbon designating it as winning first prize at a county fair. The ribbon and the item needs to be included in the photo with the person s face. Indicate the county fair, and tell us in what category the item was entered. (NOTE: This item has been modified from the contest announcement in the May/ June 2018 issue.) 6. A receipt (dated between May 20 and September 21, 2018) from a purchase made from a Pennsylvania business that is located within FIVE miles of our border with another state. Indicate the bordering state on the entry form. If the receipt doesn t designate the place of business, and the municipality in which it s located, take a photo with someone who also appears in item number one s photo of the business s sign and identify the store and its location. 7. A photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo next to a statue in a public setting representing a prominent Pennsylvania woman or representing Pennsylvania women as a group. Identify the location of the statue and the woman /women it represents. 8. A photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo in front of an old-growth tree in a protected forest, include a brochure (or a photocopy of a brochure) from the site where the photo was taken. Extra points for identifying the type of tree. 9. A photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo next to a conductor or other uniformed staff member of a tourist train in Pennsylvania that also hauls freight or has a subsidiary that hauls freight on rail. 10. A letter addressed to you from a locally elected representative indicating the person s position and including the person s original signature. 11. A Pennsylvania amusement park or a carousel individual ride ticket or token. An all-day ticket is not eligible. Ride needs to be a permanent structure: carnival rides are not eligible. Indicate the park or carousel location if it isn t on the ticket / token. 12. A Pennsylvania Lottery PICK 4 ticket showing the year that Pennsylvanians were first subject to a state income tax. 13. A photo of someone who also appears in item number one s photo with a railroad bridge that is at least 100 years old and in active use by a railroad. Identify the bridge, when it was built, what railroad companies use the bridge (for extra credit) and the location. 14. A printed brochure of a historic residence in Pennsylvania that is at least 200 years old and open to the public. A computer printout or photocopy of the brochure will not accepted. 15. A Pennsylvania travel map (free copies available at highway rest areas) indicating the locations of where you photographed / found each of the items. Super Summer
z Make the most of your Pennsylvania outings in 2018 by collecting these items for our Super Summer contest. We ve made it easy for you by having multiple possibilities for many of the items. Note that people appearing in photos for entry items 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13 must also appear in the photo for item number one. This entry form requires identification of all people in the photos. To be eligible, answers must be indicated on the contest entry form or a photocopy of the entry form and submitted by U.S. postal mail. Email entries will not be accepted. 2. All complete entries (as determined by the judges) that have met the requirements for all 15 items will receive a Pennsylvania Magazine T-shirt. Indicate desired size on entry form.
