Mountain Discovery STREAM ECOLOGY- We will introduce you to the life of an aquatic eco-system of a mountain freestone stream. We will put on a pair of waders, set out into Hesse Creek, and learn about everything you do not normally see while enjoying the scenery. Allow 90 minutes WILDLIFE OF THE SMOKIES- From salamanders and turtles, to deer and black bears, the land surrounding Blackberry Farm is full of wildlife and all of its secrets. Join us on a hike while we teach you about the animal life of the Smokies, an area with the most biological diversity of any place in the world s temperate zone. Allow 90 minutes PLANTS AND TREES OF THE SMOKIES- Hike and learn about what makes our East Tennessee seasons so spectacular, with seasonal lessons on topics such as wild flowers, today s forests, and microclimates. Allow 90 minutes THE BARE NECESSITIES- Today we enjoy the outdoors for its wilderness and beauty - one could argue that generations to come would find the same reasons appealing. Learn how to use our amazing natural resources without leaving an impact on the environment. While you re out there, it will not hurt to learn how to live and travel in bear country either! Join us on a hike while we train you on Leave No Trace Ethics and living with bears. Allow 90 minutes OUTDOOR LIVING 101- Learn tips and guidelines for comfortable hiking and backpacking, including topics such as reading weather, choosing clothing, and understanding maps. You will also learn topics such as starting a fire and proper water purification all while joining your host in a fun outdoor classroom. Allow 90 minutes. ORIENTEERING- Have you ever wondered how to use a topographic map, or wondered what you would do if you found yourself lost in the woods? A fun game of compass and map reading will educate you on how to use compasses, maps, and how to find your way out of the woods without search and rescue. Allow 90 minutes. STEPPING BACK INTO CADES COVE - Put on your hiking boots, hop in the Lexus, and become an explorer as you set out to discover some of the region s natural surroundings, legends and the history of Cades Cove. Allow 4 hours.
Life on the Farm LEARN ABOUT BEEKEEPING- At certain times of the year Blackberry Farm has upwards of 50,000 bees making honey for us to use in our dining room and sell in our gift shop. With the honey bee becoming less and less common, join your host and bee keeper to learn just how hard these little creatures work and what it is they really do. Allow 90 minutes LIFE OF A GARDEN- Visit with our Garden Team as they walk you through the ins and outs of the Blackberry Farm gardens. Help plant the coming season s crops, tend to and gather what is growing, and experience firsthand the garden cycle. Our Master Gardener may even enlighten you on his shelling techniques and about the varieties of his beans. Allow 90 minutes TRUFFLE TIME- With our own Lagatto truffle dogs, a planted orchard, and a nearby truffle farmer, join your host and dog handler Jim Sanford as you learn about this 500 year old Italian breed and the truffles they find. Allow 90 minutes A WORKING SHEEP FARM- Blackberry is proud to own a herd of dairy sheep and a state-of-the-art dairy facility. Join your host to work with the sheep, tour the dairy, and learn how Blackberry Farm is working to create some of the country s best artisanal cheeses. Allow 90 minutes FORAGING HIKE- Throughout the year, we find ourselves foraging plants such as spicebush, sassafras, and sumac. Join your host on a walk around the property to collect and learn about these plants and their uses. If your hunt is successful, you can even bring back your findings to the kitchen to prepare a delicious snack! Allow 120 minutes
Adventure Quests HIKING- Venture out to explore the National Park with your host to areas such as White Oak Sinks, Charlie s Bunion, Abrams Falls, or Rabbit Creek. There is much to see and do as you walk, learn, and explore the area. Allow 4 or 8 hours FLY FISHING IN THE SMOKY MTNS- Tucked within the 5000 acres of Three Sisters, a Blackberry Property just down the road, is a pristine mountain pond full of trout, bluegill, and bass. jump in a canoe and cast to hook your family on fishing. Allow 3 hours BACKPACKING- For the adventurous types, let your host take you on a mountain backpacking trip. You will not only learn how to pack and stay comfortable, but also get to take with you a camera, comfortable seating, and any other item that may help you enjoy your outing more. Your host can even tailor an overnight excursion for you! Contact Blackberry Farm for more information BIKING- Head out to the single tracks, run the pavement, or cover an 11 mile loop around Cades Cove. Our area is a mecca for bikers of all sorts. Your host can explore with you on a leisure, mountain, or road bike excursion. Allow 2, 4 or 6 hours ARCHERY- Learn how to safely enjoy this sport of primitive ballistics. Your host will set up a series of targets and teach you how to shoot a compound bow. Allow 90 minutes SPORTING CLAYS- Join your host at our sporting clay range to learn about and enjoy shooting over-under shotguns. We will teach you orthodox safety and technique, hopefully beginning your love for shotguns! Allow up to 3 hours ZIP LINES IN SEVIERVILLE- Find yourself zipping from platform to platform at a great East Tennessee location. Located a short drive away, you can fly over 400 yards reaching speeds up to 30 mph! Allow 3 hours (supplemental fee applies) PADDLE SPORTS- Choose from canoeing or kayaking as your means of transportation! Explore the Little River and learn the basics of balance, navigation, proper techniques and safety. If whitewater kayaking is of interest, please contact Blackberry Farm. Allow up to 3 hours NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP- Hop in our round pen with your host and an equestrian instructor to learn to communicate with your horse just as they communicate with each other. The philosophy is based on working with the horse s instincts and herd/prey mentality, and is amazing to watch and do. Allow 90 minutes
