A Cultural Powerhouse Glasgow is located on the banks of the River Clyde, in West Central Scotland and is the largest city in the country, and one of the biggest in the United Kingdom. The city s compact size makes it easy for visitors to explore the diverse neighbourhoods, as well as the incredible range of built heritage, which spans Victorian to Art Nouveau, courtesy of our most famous son Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Today, more than 25 years after the prestigious accolade propelled it into the global spotlight, the city continues to blaze an internationally acclaimed trail in contemporary art, design and music while safeguarding its rich architectural heritage, world-class civic art collection and its position as home base to all (but one) of Scotland s national performing arts companies. Fans the world over know that it s the city s unrivalled music scene that really embodies Glasgow s energy and swagger. - National Geographic Traveler In the past few decades, Scotland s biggest city has emerged as a cultural powerhouse. The River Clyde, which once ferried tobacco traders towards the city, now flows past smoking-hot artists studios and museums, which have appeared in rejuvenated docks. - Rough Guides Earning its reputation as one of the world s friendliest cities, you can expect a very warm welcome.
