INTRODUCTION Black-and-white (4x5) photographic prints taken in Southeast Kansas of Missouri-Kansas- Texas (MKT or Katy) Railroad depots, locomotives, and rolling stock taken by Howard D. Killam, Art Johnson, Charles Winters, and Richard Napper. DONOR INFORMATION The photographic reprints were purchased from Richard Napper by Pittsburg State University, Axe Library, Special Collections on 15 November 1987. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Howard D. Killam was born on 1 November 1918 in Springfield, Missouri. He later moved to Topeka, Kansas, where he worked as a carman for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. Killam s pastime was railroad photography and he compiled over ten thousand photographs during his lifetime. After his death on 9 February 1993, his sons donated the entirety of his collection to the Spencer Library at the University of Kansas, per the instructions of his last will and testament. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The Killam collection contains 35 photographs of Southeast Kansas MKT Railroad depots and freight houses, three steam locomotives, and one Hannibal and St. Joseph passenger car. They are arranged in alphabetical order by city.
