What is this list? This is a list of farmers and landowners who have indicated that they are willing to take occasional campers, as well as some established sites. The sites on this list are merely suggestions. Trainers/Supervisors visiting the area well before the planned expedition dates may well find a farmer not included on the list, but willing to take their Team when asked. How do I book? Campsites must be booked in writing well before arrival in the area. Please send a stamped addressed envelope when enquiring about, or booking, a campsite. Never turn up on spec. Some sites limit the number of Award groups they take remember hundreds of groups come to the Peak District every year. Please book early to avoid disappointment. What about health and safety issues? The Panel advises leaders to visit in advance to check the sites for their suitability. The Panel is not in a position to check sites on health and safety aspects. We welcome comments of any nature on the suitability of sites, including sites not listed here. Can we wild camp? There is no wild camping allowed in the Peak District National Park without express written permission from the landowner. The Panel will not allocate a reference number to any Team planning to wild camp without evidence of such permission. In practice, nearly every Award Team camps at the smaller sites; many of which have few facilities and are not far from real wild camping. Are all campsites in the area suitable for Award groups? Some of the sites get very busy especially during Bank Holidays, July and August, and may not meet the Award's ideology for expeditions. Larger (family) sites are not necessarily the safer sites. The potential for conflict between DofE Teams or participants and members of the general public should be considered carefully and regular supervision is important. What are the facilities and services like? Some of the more remote or less-used campsites may not have toilet facilities. There are not always arrangements for the disposal of litter and young people should expect to remove it. Teams intending to pack and leave early (i.e. before 7 a.m.) must check with the campsite warden that this is acceptable. Most sites (certainly all C&C Club Sites) have specific rules that campers should be quiet between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Please Uphold the good name of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and respect the Countryside Code. It is up to you and your Team to behave sensibly and responsibly. Only use site telephone numbers to contact Teams on expedition in cases of emergency. Remember that inconsiderate behaviour may lead to site wardens deciding to withdraw the site from use by other Award participants
