More about... National Museum of Slovenia The new venue of the National Museum of Slovenia (besides the main 1888 museum building with the permanent exhibition focused on the earliest history, situated on Prešeren street next to the Parliament building) is housed in the ex-barracks complex on Metelkova street, not far from the main Ljubljana railway station and the Clinical Center. The transformation of the onehundred-year-old barracks complex, comprising the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Slovenian Cinemateque and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, was designed by the local Architectural Bureau Groleger and Miroslav Kvas. In the glass-clad extension the National Museum building (with nearly 4000 square meters space) has an underground storage and a string of restoration workshops as well as a lecture room, while the exhibition galleries are on the ground floor (for temporary exhibitions and displays) and on the first and the second floors the permanent exhibition. Park of Military History The Park of Military History is a new museum and tourist centre located in the old Pivka barracks complex. The barracks were built by the Kingdom of Italy around 1930 in order to defend the Rapallo border. From 1945 to 1991, the barracks were home to the Yugoslav People s Army. The Park of Military History has been developing within the complex since 2004. Over the last couple of years, the Park of Military History has experienced an intensive development and quickly became the largest museum complex in the Republic of Slovenia as well as one of the largest military-historical complexes in this part of Europe. It displays various museum exhibits and diverse museum collections which offer visitors a unique insight into Slovenian national history as well as world history. Regional Museum in Celje The Celje Regional Museum, the second oldest museum in Slovenia, is situated in the old centre of the town. Its collections (from the prehistoric times till I. World War) are exhibitet in the The Old Counts`Mansion and the Princely Palace. The visitors should't miss the famouse Celje Ceiling, in situ presented remains of Roman town Celeia and the story of famous dinasty of the Counts of Celje. Visitors are cordially invited for a guided tour through the ancient ruins which tell the story of the rich history of Celeia. The basement of the Princely Palace beneath the palace's courtyard houses the largest exhibition with in-situ preserved remains of ancient Celeia. The astonishing monuments from almost 2000 years ago are supplemented with textual and pictorial explanations. https://www.pokmuz-ce.si/en/ 4
Regional Museum of Maribor The Maribor Regional Museum is a public museum involved in the collection, preservation, examination, exhibition and popularization of movable cultural heritage in the fields of archaeology, ethnology and the wider cultural history throughout the region of Maribor. The year 1903 is regarded as the museum s year of birth. The museum s current collection is the heritage of the collections of three different museums. The collection of arms and armour is considered to be one of the largest in Slovenia and includes weapons and equipment from late medieval times to the middle of the 20th century. Among the oldest artefacts in the collection are Franconian swords from the 13th and 14th centuries and combat thrashers with movable heads from the 16th century. The sword breaker from 1620 is unique. In addition to cold and older firearms the collection also holds artistically designed hunting rifles from the 18th and 19th centuries, military rifles from the former Austro-Hungarian army and other World War I armies. http://www.museum-mb.si/about_the_museum Military Museum of Slovenia in Maribor The Military Museum collects, documents, preserves, studies, examines and presents museum material related to life and work of the Slovenian army.
