I hope that you are all looking forward to attending the UNIKE Workshop 4 that is scheduled to take place at the University of Roehampton from Sunday 7 th September 2014; we are very much looking forward to meeting all of you. To assist you in planning your trip and getting around, we are pleased to provide the following information: General Information: Travelling in London In London, all bus stops have names and in some cases additional letters.i would recommend that you get an Oyster card at the tube station or the train station. The Oyster card makes journeys quicker and also, cash is no longer accepted on buses. The link to find out more details about public transport in London is www.tfl.gov.uk. Directions from airports Heathrow: The easiest way is to get the underground, Piccadilly line, to Hammersmith and then to get the 72 bus from bus stop K to the Whitelands campus. The bus station is above the tube station at Hammersmith. Leave the bus at Roehampton Lane / Danebury Avenue (Stop M). For further information see: http://www.heathrowairport.com/ Gatwick: Get the Gatwick express to Clapham Junction. Then get a train to Barnes (not Barnes Bridge) and then a taxi or the bus 72 (to Roehampton, Bessborough Road) or 265 (to Tolworth) to Whitelands. Leave the bus at Roehampton Lane / Danebury Avenue (Stop M). For further information see: http://www.gatwickairport.com/ Stansted: Get the train from the airport to Liverpool Street Station (it takes about one hour and a return ticket is 33.20). Then take the underground, Central line to Bank and then change to Waterloo and City line to Waterloo Station. Once at this station get a South West Train to Barnes. However, Waterloo and City line does not run on Sundays. Thus, on Sunday, take the Central Line from Liverpool Street to Tottenham Court Road, and change to Northern line towards south. The Waterloo Station is the 3 rd stop, and from there take the train to Barnes. From Barnes Railway Station, you can take either a taxi or the bus 72 (to Roehampton, Bessborough Road) or 265 (to Tolworth) to Whitelands. Leave the bus at Roehampton Lane / Danebury Avenue (Stop M). For further information see: http://www.stanstedairport.com/ Train Station The nearest overland train station is Barnes (not Barnes Bridge) and you can get there with South West Trains from Waterloo Station or Vauxhall or Clapham Junction. It is then a
30 minute walk to Whitelands College (past the entrance to the main campus) or a short ride on the bus 72 (to Roehampton, Bessborough Road) or 265 (to Tolworth). The bus stop is Barnes (Stop B).Please do not get off the bus at the stop called Roehampton University main entrance, as this will be the main campus. You will need to get off 3 stops later at Roehampton Lane / Danebury Avenue (Stop M). The Excerpt from the tube map shows the relevant stations. From Hammersmith the bus 72 runs to Roehampton. Heathrow is at the end of Piccadilly line. From Waterloo Station and Clapham Junction you can get to Barnes, which is not on this map as it is not part of tube network. When you fly to Stansted and take the Gatwick Express, you arrive at Liverpool Street Station. The real map can be downloaded from https://www.tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/standard-tube-map.pdf And please, check out the latest information about public transportation in London www.tfl.gov.uk
