Farewell to Richard Jones Richard Jones, a longtime member of Triple B Riding Club, passed away on February 17, 2018 due to heart failure. Richard lived in Winter Haven FL and was a dear friend to many and at one time held the reins of Triple B as President. He was an avid horseman and was also a current member of Florida Sport Horse Club. Richard had a hunt camp near Doe Lake and would ride into camp on his horse and go out with folks riding or stay for dinner. He rode and helped promote and support the Osceola Wagon Train and Trail Ride for many years. He was an active participant in club meetings and is fondly remembered for making the last motion to adjourn our monthly meetings. He had been in and out of rehab in Winter Haven for the past several months where he was visited regularly by his friends including Bobby Hancock and Donna Fellers who kept the clubs updated on Richard s condition. Richard loved his horses and he is now reunited with his good horse, The General that he rode for more than 25 years and more recently his little black horse named Shadow. Ride in Peace Richard. Honoring Richard Jones The members would like to do something to honor Richard Jones whose funeral was held in Winter Haven on Thursday, March 1st at Steele Funeral Home. Florida Sport Horse Club is having a trail ride at Tenoroc in honor of Richard. Triple B has discussed having a plaque in memory of Richard, from both clubs, to be placed on the trail or on a picnic table at Tenoroc since that was one of his favorite places to ride. Parrish Parade and Moonlight Ride March 3 rd was a busy day for Triple B members. The day began early in the morning in Parrish, Fl where members groomed and outfitted their horses for a 10:30 am start in the Heritage Day Parade. This was a first-time parade for the club and they were well received, and all enjoyed the event. Later that same day riders finished with the organized moonlight ride at Little Manatee River State Park to benefit the park. This was a busy day and enjoyed by all who participated. Cathy Moore organized the group of riders for the parade and for the moonlight ride and commented that it was a good parade to train horses that have never ridden in a parade and the moonlight ride was also a success. Get to Know Colt Creek Florida Sport Horse Club and Triple B volunteers provided horseback rides to visitors at the Get to Know Colt Creek event on February 25. The rides were a success with 135 rides given to smiling children and adults alike. Colt Creek State Park opened in 2007 and many people were not aware of one of Florida s newest state parks, so the Annual Get to Know Colt Creek event was begun five years ago by the FRIENDS group to promote the park. The event has grown each year and an estimated 600 people attended this year s event that also celebrated the February 19 opening of the park RV and tent campground with electric hookups. The primitive equestrian campground opened two years ago. The park offers 15 miles of multiuse trails for hiking and biking and horseback riding and a lake for fishing with canoe and kayak rentals available and a pavilion for rent. The new full hook-up RV campground at Colt Creek opened in February. For your convenience, registered campers at the primitive equestrian campground may now use the RV dump station for $10.00 plus tax, and the bath house for $8.00 plus tax each time you use it. The fees must be paid upon entrance to the park. Mother s Day Ride/Campout at Colt Creek The Annual Triple B Mother s Day Ride has been moved from Alafia River State Park to Colt Creek State Park. Twenty campsites have been reserved in the original Colt Creek equestrian campground for the weekend of May 11-13 so please remember to RSVP to triplebrider@yahoo.com.
