unday, T There are no pictures of the unday departure from the campground. Fall in the Great moky ountains ames and andra Walters have planned a trip to travel to Pigeon Forge during the fall. The trip is at the height of the Fall Tree Viewing eason. The now birds have not travelled south in large numbers. That means that all the tourist traps are open and you can have a great time. ame writes this information. I am currently planning a 9 day trip to the mokies during October. Departing acksonville on a aturday morning October 7 TH. With a return on unday October TH. The trip is approximately 6 miles. Plans are to overnight in Columbia C on aturday, and complete the trip on unday. ach travel day will have scheduled rest stops for use of facilities, and a short meal stop. We are looking for a campground with cabins for rent so that those who wish to join us and travel by car instead of V may do so. Communication will be by CB radio during the trip with cell phones as backup. Current plans are to stay in Pigeon Forge, T. This is a very busy time of year for this area and we will have to make reservations early. Once the plans are made and confirmed reservations will need to be completed quickly, There will be handouts of attractions in the area to see, or you may choose your own. We will meet in the campground street every morning with a cup of coffee and decide who is going where that day. Those without transportation can decide who to ride with that day. We should be able to accommodate everybody. Please do not go to an attraction with empty seats in your car. We will try to schedule a picnic lunch for Wednesday noon to be held at the Chimneys picnic area, weather permitting. This is for a group gathering and photo opportunity. There will be a chance for all to swap stories and recommendations of attractions that you really don t want to miss. I always recommend Cades Cove wildlife loop, Carvers pple Orchard, and the moky ountain crossing to Cherokee, Look for lk near the old farm on the orth Carolina side of the mountain. For those who wish, Harrahs has a casino on the reservation in Cherokee. The area is filled with music shows starting with The Blackwoods at breakfast and running until bedtime. Country Tonight Theater, Dixie tampede, Lumberjack show and Comedy Barn are just a few among the many. There are an array of shops to fill the wildest imagination, and enough natural beauty to boggle the mind. ttention Pet owners at Dollywood, there is a boarding facility called Doggywood, reservations are required. o if you need some one to help with your pet, keep them in mind. Dollywood is just a short drive away. For those who want to go into Gatlinburg, may I recommend that you drive to the visitor center and take the trolley into Gatlinburg. It saves the headache with traffic and hunting a parking place. In Gatlinburg, there is the chair lift up to ount LeConte for an overview of the area. There is also Ober Gatlinburg, a uropean gondola ride to the ki rea - Ice ink and overview. There may be a craft show in the Convention center. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, let me know so that plans can be made to accommodate all who wish to go. t the uly campout, we can have a discussion, during the business meeting, about the conflicting campout date and this trip. ames X B L I G C H P T U
TH PIDT BOX U Welcome members of X ambling ams Chapter (C-). The members that could attend the une Camp Outing at Big Wheel V found this to be a small but hospitable V camp. I would like to thank Don and anell Kent for hosting this outing. Don & anell Kent provided Turkey and trimmings for our evening meal with all the attendee s bringing a side dish. I believe all the chapter members were feed well. The kitchen and recreation area was small but adequate. It had a good collection of cooking pans and utensils that were used by our members. gain Bob humaker controlled much of the morning cooking and made sure the coffee was on early and was assisted by Barbara Taylor. aturday was started with a sausage and pancake breakfast. aturday morning at : a.m. - had a business meeting to discuss the topics from our previous meeting. ames and andra Walters were present for the meeting along with Christine and Glenn Yearous. andra s ankles are healing and Christine pelvis is almost ready for camping. Laverne Toivonen, our Treasurer, was hospitalized for an infection and was not present for camping or the meeting. he was missed. On aturday during our chapter meeting, several items were discussed. For Consideration: Combine the Host and the Wagon aster duties. This would eliminate the wagon master from the election process. The Host would become the Wagon aster for each camp outing that they volunteered for. This is done by some of the other chapters.. Host duties were slightly modified and finalized a copy will be provided to all chapter members.. Combining of Host & Wagon master was determined to be outside of our chapter OP.. ames Walters stated he would accept the Wagon aster office.. motion was made and carried resulting in ames Walters assigned the new Wagon aster. Wagon aster Duties will be distributed for clarification. 4. Bud & udy volunteered to lead the Christmas Theme for ustis. ames Walters has been in contact with oe Weston to better clarify the parameters for each chapters participation at ustis for the Christmas tory Theme. UT OT: When traveling with a group or alone there is great value in having a CB adio. ven a hand held unit makes it easy to communicate with the group. This also gives you access to road conditions and accidents ahead. Our chapter normally communicates on Channel /4. FIT LDY COT: I was very happy to see that andra and Christine are healing and hopefully will be back camping with our Chapter very soon. Our prayers go out to Laverne Toivonen that she may have a fast recovery. It was also good to see Bill and nn at our aturday meeting. 6 U
