Biographical note Lillian I. Allard was born in 1910 in Pennsylvania. She married in October 1929 and subsequently moved with her husband to Southern California where she resided until her death in 1979. They had one child, a son named Frank, who attended USC in 1956 and received a degree in Mathematics. Lillian and her husband were avid collectors and were part of a hobby society. Frequently, they visited second-hand stores. Lillian loved California and showed her admiration for the state by collecting picture postcards of the region. Acquisition The collection was given to the University of Southern California on January 12, 2004 by Frank A. Allard, the son of Lillian I. Allard. Arrangement The postcards were kept in original order and are organized into 10 series by geographical location. Conditions Governing Access COLLECTION STORED OFF-SITE. Also included, is a newspaper clipping about Ghost Chapel of Las Flores located where Camp Pendleton now resides. The article is dated August 19, 1956. Box 1, Box 2 Historic Pictures of Riverside County 1890s-1937 Physical Description: 168 postcards plus textual items and photographs Pictured are the following cities: Hemet, San Jacinto, Murrieta, Temecula, Elsinore, Corona, Beaumont, Banning, Palm Springs, and Coachella Valley. Also included are two pictures, one of Hotel Glenwood and the other of Palma Hotel in South San Jacinto. In addition, there are a few textual items including a County of Riverside brochure, a map of the area, and a newspaper clipping about San Jacinto's educational history dated October 31, 1968.
