Date: 8/2/2016, 7:10 PM The meeting of the Prop Busters was called to order by Charles Strang at IHOP, 14424 San Pedro Ave, just north of Bitters on 281. Visitors: None The July meeting minutes were approved. President: Charles commented that Italy was nice and he learned something about obeying the speed limits. He may be receiving a few fines for electronically recorded speeding. VP/Safety Officer: Bob reminded all to fly safe, stay hydrated with water and Gatorade. Secretary: Terry no comment. Treasurer: Jim reported the various expenses, income, and account balances for July. If you need details contact Jim. Newsletter: Free ads and articles of interest for the newsletter need to be submitted by members to John Gardner by the 17th. Web Editor: Robert Jarzombek has updated the website to include changes to Flying Rules and Regulations approved during this meeting. Robert also posts our upcoming events. Old Business: FAA: Jim noted that AMA will NOT police FAA registration. Likewise, Prop Busters will NOT police FAA registration. FAA registration and its placement on models is the responsibility of the pilot! Early Bird Raffle: Lloyd Roecker won a gallon of fuel. Membership: Rick introduced a new member, Lezaro Saenz. Lezaro told us he had been flying basic glow and electric airplanes for about 2 years. His membership was unanimously approved. After receiving some last minute dues payments, Rick reported that 14 members and 8 affiliates had not renewed. He commented that late notices had been sent out with reminders to those who had not renewed as of the last meeting. He will accept mailed payment as long as they were postmarked by August 2. Rick read the list of those to be dropped, and all members present approved their removal. Jim commented that the loss of membership will likely require a shift in next year s budget for expenditures in various areas. There was voiced concern that cutting budgets that affect flying activities would be hazardous to retaining and growing membership. New Business: Somerset: Special thanks to Gary Sustala for keeping up with mowing the Somerset field, it looks great. Jim Branaum and Robert Jarzombek cut the flyover area. 2 Events: A Budget for the Build n Fly Event for October 22 was discussed. The sanctioned event will have a landing fee of $15 and will include lunch. After minimal discussion it was decided that hamburgers and the fixings will be served. A budget of $250 for food and pilot prizes was approved. Labor Day Weekend Club Fun-Fly All were reminded that the Club Labor Day Fly-in will be Saturday September 3. The Free Event will have hot dogs, chips and drinks for lunch. MODEL OF THE MONTH: George Wilson showed his completed resurrection of Jim Branaum s quick build and crash of a Cougar. George had presented the rebuilt fuselage at the June meeting. His mission was to rebuild the classic model with true straight components in keeping with Vintage RC Society objectives. He s powering the plane with Vintage OS 46. He used a combination of MonoKote and Rustolem paint to obtain his old color scheme for a highly visible model. He has a blog on RC Groups with all the details. George with his Vintage Cougar

Jim Branaum brought in his ARF Sukhoi 31 that is almost ready to fly. The plane has a 68 inch wing span and is powered with a SPE- 40cc engine. Jim is waiting for his name brand receiver to come in after giving up on the Orange receivers that had failed him in the past. Jim with his new Sukhoi 31 Don Barr showed his build of a Great Planes Ultimate Biplane kit. The plane is powered with an OS 46 AX. He discussed building the plane with special attention to parallel incidence alignment of the wings using his laser level. He stressed the importance of alignment and balance as well as attention to detail. He reported that it flew well with no control issues and needed very little trim. NO NEED TO CLOSE THE HIGHWAY GATE unless you are the last to leave! Run the lock through Only the End Most links of the chain. Don with his Ultimate Biplane Don Barr won Model of the Month CRASH DUMMY: Nobody fessed up. The Raffle: Lloyd Roecker- LiPo 2200/3S, MonoKote Charles Strang-CA, CA, foam Robert Jarzombek- Control rods, nuts/bolts Dave Gell-CA, fuel tubing, pipette Rick Storm-Thread inserts, pipette Lezaro Saenz-Tissue covering Don Barr-Bolts Adjourned 8:15 PM Submitted by Secretary: Terry Ullman Membership Notes By Richard Storm (210) 680-5653 E-Mail: rstorm@satx.rr.com Need a membership list? e-mail me and I ll send you a fresh one. NEED AN INSTRUCTOR? Call Me, The August Meeting was the final makeup for payment of 3 Membership Dues in Propbusters. Unfortunately we dropped about 20 members total due to failure to respond to the final invoice notices. Some of those that dropped are members that have not been able to fly for several years due to diminished physical capability. We understand that and certainly appreciate the years they have supported the club even though they were not able to fly. We know that every year there are some who do not renew. We all need to work harder at making new members feel a part of the group and encourage them in every way we can. The final roster for the New Year includes 49 OPEN members, 3 Family members, and 6 Affiliate members for a total club membership of 58. The good news is that we picked up one new member at the August Meeting. The new member is Lazaro Saenz. He s an experienced flyer and we need to make sure he feels welcome when you see him at the field. Remember, recruiting and encouraging new members is everyone s responsibility. The following SAPB members have birthdays in September. Day of Birth Member Name 5 Hansel Wells 10 Richard C Ales 15 Colin Gipp 26 Edward L. Johnson Jr See you at the field!
