Hostel Rules and Guidelines. The College Hostel for Boys and Girls are owned and administered by the Diocesan Education Trust. These hostels give accommodation to the students and staff of Viswajyothi College of Engineering, Vazhakulam. Our hostels aim at development intellectual, cultural, moral, social and spiritual of the students. They are formation houses and cultural centres that provide calm and peaceful atmosphere for all their inmates to develop personality. Rev. Fathers and Rev. Sisters of the Diocese of Kothamangalam are wardens of the Boys and Girls Hostels respectively. I. Admission 1. Admission to the hostel is restricted to the students and staff of Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology, Vazhakulam. 2. Those who seek admission should submit the application in the prescribed form with two recent passport size colour photographs. 3. The parent or guardian, while seeking admission, should accompany the applicant. 4. Admission to the hostel is given for a period of one academic year only. 5. The hostel wardens reserve the right to accept or reject any application on genuine reason. II. Fee Structure 1. The hostel fee has two components, viz., establishment fee and mess fee. Hostel fees in detail are given below. Admission Fee: Rs. 250/- Caution Deposit: Rs. 2000/- Mess Advance : Rs. 3000/- (at the time of admission) Mess Fee: As per dividing system Establishment Charges: Rs. 1500/- (3 months in advance at the time of admission) Total fee to be paid at the time of admission: Rs. 9750/- 2. The establishment fee is collected for 3 months in advance and the mess fee as per dividing system of each month. One month mess fee is to be paid in advance at the time of admission. 3. Failure to pay mess fee and establishment fee within the prescribed period shall result in imposing fine or expulsion from the hostel for a period of time fixed by the warden. III. General Rules 1. The Students themselves should keep their own personal belongings. Hostel authorities are not responsible for any loss in such cases. 2. Rules of modesty and decorum in dress and behavior have to be strictly adhered to. Decent dressing is expected from the hostlers even inside the campus of the hostel.
3. Those who want to go out from the hostel campus should get permission from the warden. 4. During working hours in the college, none is allowed to remain in the hostel, without the permission of the warden. 5. Those absenting themselves from the class or college programme should report themselves to the Warden. 6. Those who want to go for tuition should get permission from Warden. 7. Use of alcohol, intoxicating drugs and smoking are strictly prohibited in the hostel. 8. Ragging and other indecent activities are banned on the Campus. Ragging is a criminal offence. 9. On Sundays and holidays after lunch, students are allowed to go for outing with permission of the warden and should come back by 6:30 P.M. 10. T.V. Programmes are permitted daily during recreation time and on holidays after lunch as directed by the warden. 11. Hostlers are not permitted to go for films, festivals and other cultural activities at night. 12. The medium of communication in the hostel is English. IV. Study and Silence 1. Hostlers are expected to observe complete silence throughout the study time and night rest. 2. The inmates of the hostel must be in the rooms assigned to them during study. 3. Discussions, borrowing or lending of books or notes etc., should be done during the interval or recreation times. 4. Combined study is permitted only in the reading hall or common study hall; but never allowed after 11.00 P.M. 5. Nobody is allowed to enter other rooms during study time. V. Prayer and Spiritual Activities The quality of your life is the quality of your relationship (A. Robbins). 1. Catholic students are advised to attend the daily Holy Mass in the chapel. 2. Attendance at the night prayer in the chapel is compulsory for catholic students. 3. All are expected to come for the mass and prayers in decent dress. 4. Common prayer time: Ordinary days 6.15 A.M. & 7.30 P.M., Sundays: 7.00 A.M. & 7.30 P.M. VI. Hostel Mess 1. Our hostels follow dividing system in conducting the hostel mess. Mess includes breakfast, lunch, tiffin and supper. There shall be a committee of students to supervise the mess. 2. The inmates of the hostel should report in time for meals neither early nor late. 3. Students are not expected to enter the kitchen or give instructions to kitchen staff.
4. If there is any complaint, they must bring it to the attention of the warden. 5. Mess bill will be published before 10 th of every month. 6. In case of default fine will be levied as decided by the warden. VII. Water / Electricity We provide 24 hours supply of water and electricity. 1. Avoid wasting water and electricity. 2. Ensure that the taps are closed after use. 3. Switch off fans and lights when not in use. 4. Electrical goods like tubes, bulbs etc in the common places are not to be handled by the students. 5. If any bulb or tube is not found working properly, report it to the hostel office and the details should be entered in the complaint register. 6. No one is expected to have extra electrical fittings in the rooms and use any electrical appliance like radio, stereo, TV, heater etc. They may however use a table lamp. VIII. Rooms and Furniture 1. Each student will be allotted a room and they should occupy only the rooms allotted to them. 2. Each student will be allotted a table, a chair and a cot. 3. Students have to take good care of the rooms and furniture at their disposal and keep them always clean. Any complaint with the furniture should be reported to the hostel office and will be charged individually or collectively if found damaged. 4. No one is allowed to change the room assigned to him/her. 5. The students should not throw waste out of their windows. They can use the dustbin provided in each room. 6. Students are advised to wash their clothes regularly and they should not dump the soiled clothes in the room. 7. Students are not allowed to paste posters, stickers etc, on the walls or behind the doors. 8. Students are not allowed to make scratches, or writings on the table, chairs and walls. 9. Wet clothes should be dried only in the drying rooms. 10. Every individual is provided with a separate room key and drawer key. It is their duty to keep the keys in their safe custody. While they are out, the students should ensure the rooms closed. At the end of the academic year, the keys are to be surrendered to the office. 11. Students are not permitted to alter the position of the furniture in the rooms. 12. The hostel wardens reserve the right to make any enquiry in the rooms at any time without prior notice in cases they suspect misbehavior or violation of any of the hostel rules.
IX. Computers / Laptops 1. Students are permitted to use personal computers / Laptops for the project work and for studies. 2. Students should get permission from the warden before they bring computers into the hostel 3. Rs. 2/- will be charged per day to meet the electricity charges. 4. Viewing films in the computer is strictly prohibited. 5. Students are strictly prohibited from playing songs during study time. 6. Students may play songs during the leisure times in a very low voice so that it does not disturb the other students. X. Mobile Phones 1. Students may use mobile phones which do not have multimedia cameras or videos. 2. They are not permitted to give the mobile phones to other students. 3. Students are strictly prohibited from using mobile phones during study time and in the corridors. 4. Ring tones should be set at the minimum voice level. Students are adviced to set small beeps or vibration mode so that no disturbance is caused to the fellow students. 5. No use of mobile phones from 10.00 P.M. to 06.00 A.M. Note: Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the college campus under court order. Therefore we strongly discourage students from using mobile phones, as parents can contact students in the landline itself. XI. Registers 1. MOVEMENT REGISTER a. Those students who wish to go out of the campus should write it down in the Movement Register. b. The purpose of going, place, date and time at which students leave and return to the campus should be clearly entered with signature before leaving. c. The students should fill the remaining entries in the Movement Register when they return to the hostel. d. We strongly discourage students from using Motor Vehicles or Bikes in and out of the campus. Special permission should be obtained from the warden for the use of such vehicles. e. Hostellers are not permitted to go to college or other places for combined study during holidies. XII. Disciplinary Actions Disciplinary action depends on the gravity of the act or history of the person and the act. The following are the disciplinary actions: 1. Written Apology 2. Fine 3. Suspension 4. Expulsion Note: Disciplinary action taken in the college will automatically result in the suspension / expulsion of the students from the hostel XIV. Visitors 1. Guests, Visitors and day scholars are to be received in the parlour of the hostel with the permission of the warden. 2. Parents are always welcome to the hostel 3. They must visit hostel at least twice in a year to enquire about the general conduct and progress and study of their ward. 4. At least once in a month parent or guardian must contact the warden through telephone. 5. Mobile phones will be allowed to the students in their rooms but shall not be used between 10.00 P.M. to 06.00 A.M. At other times messages will be conveyed. 1.
