Southern Nevada Chapter, Inc. #2735 From the Director s Saddle. Well, here we are in December with the holidays upon us. Do you have a favorite holiday tale or tradition? Who does all the holiday baking in your family? We had a great aunt who used to bake sugar cookies in all the Christmas shapes. She then iced and decorated them and each was individually wrapped in wax paper (remember wax paper?). Her package was always the first opened on Christmas morning and we would eat cookies while opening the other presents. I still have her original recipe and have been known to bake some for our house and send some to my sister in Oregon and my brother and his family in Southern California. D E C E M B E R 2 0 0 8 I would like to thank all of you who donated to the dealerships Operation Christmas Stocking event. We really gathered quite a lot of the items and I am sure that the military men and women will appreciate receiving them. Also you really came through for our Children s Christmas Charity event. We are going to be able to purchase gifts for all 150 kids this year. Please join us on Saturday morning, December 13 th on our ride from the dealership to the school to present the gifts to the kids with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Refreshments will be provided by the school and lots of photos will be taken. Later that evening, we will have our Chapter Christmas Party at the Golden Nugget Hotel. This is your party so there is no dress code. Wear your finest dinner party attire, casual attire, favorite Harley-Davidson t-shirt or jeans and vests. There will be a cash bar starting at 5PM and the banquet doors will open at 6PM for a buffet style dinner. We will have door prizes, a DJ and dance floor. This is your chance to party with new and old friends that you have made INSIDE THIS during the past year. S.N.H.O.G. Officers 2008 ISSUE: We do have an overnighter scheduled for this month to Lake Havasu, AZ to watch the Parade of Lights. This consists of the local residents who decorate their boats and drive them through the harbor for our enjoyment. This is always a very popular overnighter. We will have a Wednesday evening ride on the 17 th to see some of the local area Christmas lights with refreshments served afterwards at Gary and Lana Childer s house. There is a lunch ride to Victorville, CA and another to Bullhead City, AZ. Then we end the year with a Meet-and-Eat at Claim Jumpers in Henderson. Director s Saddle Continued on page 2... Editor s Note Happy Holidays! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Mine was fabulous! My brother, sister-in-law, niece and brand-new nephew Brody came to visit for the week. I finally got to spend some quality time with the little guy, which was the best present I could ask for. I don t think he cried the entire week!!! Having my brother and his family here for the holiday was a treat and our entire family was blessed with their presence. I hope that all of you had similar family blessings this Thanksgiving and continue to throughout the holiday season. Since this is my last newsletter for the year, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you a wonderful 2009. It has been fun and I ve enjoyed doing the newsletter this past year. I m not sure if anyone has volunteered for the job yet, but time is ticking, so if you re interested, please get your application in ASAP! It has been a great experience and a great opportunity to get to know the members better. Its not a difficult job, so if you have a creative side that you d like to explore, don t be afraid to volunteer! I ll help you get started! Thanks to all who contributed to the newsletter in 2008. Karen, you were a huge help to me, so an extra special thanks to you. Michelle Nieto, Editor Director s Saddle...cont. I would like to extend my thanks to the following: The Ambassadors- thank you for all your hard work at the meetings, getting things set up and put away, getting members signed in and serving the cake. Thank you also for being there for the new members on the New Member rides. We have increased the participation on those rides this year and I thank you for your help. Thank you to Jim Larson and all of the Road Captains for getting us to and from our destinations with safety and ease. You all do a remarkable job. Thank you for helping the Chapter to enjoy not just the destination but also the journey along the way. Thank you to the Discretionary Officers: Webmaster Larry Lewis; Editor Michelle Nieto; Historian Lene Mogavero; and photographers Sharon Gordon, Donna Screnci and Ken Wynn. You are all the behind the scenes officers who do so much with so little recognition. We could not function without you. Thank you to Janine and Clark for handling the sometimes difficult tasks of Activities Officers. For taking the time and effort to make those calls to the restaurants and hotels to make reservations for the rest of us and for scheduling the volunteers for the poker runs. And as always, making us laugh at the meetings with your tales and renditions of the upcoming events. Thank you to the four primary officers who were there to help me all year long. Lana as Secretary and Membership Officer for a very time consuming job. To Treasurer Clar for keeping us within budget for the year. To Assistant Director Wendy for all the time spent on scanning our Loyalty Cards and then uploading the information for the dealerships approval. To Assistant Director Larry for all the wonderful e-mail blasts. I am sure that I speak for many when I say that they were a treat. Thank you to Dealer Representative Tom for being just a phone call away when I needed you. I appreciate your support and guidance. Thank you to the dealership. You are more than just the sponsor of the Chapter but a huge part of what we do. I have enjoyed working with all of the employees and thank each and every one of you for your assistance with making this a great working relationship. And to the members, thank you to each and every one of you. Remember the Chapter is what you make it. Be active and enjoy the company of so many others with similar interests. I hope that you have enjoyed the year as much as I have. May you each have a Happy Holiday season filled with love and good cheer and may you be blessed with a joyous New Year. If you travel away from us during the holiday season, be safe and remember it is not just the destination but also the journey in what ever you do. All my Love, Future Harley-Davidson rider, my nephew Brody! PAGE 2 Karen It is not just the destination but also the journey.
