World-class Barkerville has been a Provincial Heritage Site since 1958 and a National Historic Site since 1924. It is the largest Heritage Town & Park in Western North America and welcomes over 60,000 visitors annually. Fun In addition to our spring and summer living history museum showcase, Barkerville now offers activities year-round, with the addition of winter recreation programs like ice-skating, snow shoeing and the Shamrock tube run. With so much to see, Barkerville offers everyone the freedom to play, learn and explore. Customisable Our staff are committed to providing you with the support you need to make your special event at Barkerville a truly outstanding experience. The Benefits of Cottonwood House Cottonwood House Historic Site, located 26 km east of Quesnel is also managed by the Barkerville Heritage Trust. This guide also provides information on special events options at the beautiful heritage roadhouse and farm on the banks of the Cottonwood River. Pastoral Situated on the banks of the winding Cottonwood River, lined with hundreds of heritage Cottonwood Trees, Cottonwood House Historic Site is a working farm on a scenic setting. Accommodating Cottonwood House offers 10 cabins and multiple RV and tent camping within the site, making it ideal for large group retreats. Historic hospitality As the oldest remaining roadhouse in North America, Cottonwood House has served road-weary travellers since 1864. The Seasons of Barkerville & Cottonwood House Spring & Summer Season Barkerville: May 18 2017 September 24 2017 Site hours: 8:00am 7:00pm everyday Cottonwood House: May 18, 2017 September 4, 2017 Site hours: 8:00am 5:00pm everyday Summer season is the busy season at Barkerville Historic Town & Park and Cottonwood Historic Site. Our full complement of restaurants, shops, accommodations, theatre, education programs, interpretive programs, and more are open for business. While the large volume of programs and activities taking place during the spring and summer season may limit venue availability, a greater number of services are available through local seasonal merchants to support your event. During the spring and summer season, a gate admission is required for all visitors to Barkerville and Cottonwood House. Fall & Winter Season Barkerville: September 25 2017 May 17 2018 Site hours: 10:00am 7:00pm, Tuesday through Sunday Cottonwood House: Closed Barkerville Historic Town & Park launched its first winter recreation season program in 2016 with the opening of the Barkerville Café, the Shamrock Tube Run, the Barkerville Pavilion, and snowshoe, ice skate, and kick sled rentals. The winter season at Barkerville offers visitors the benefit of a wide range of venue options, low crowd volumes, and a spectacular winter landscape settings. Winter in Barkerville virtually guarantees snow. During the winter season, admission to Barkerville is free for all visitors. Cottonwood is closed during the winter season. 4

Rates & Fees Gate Admission During the spring and summer season, a gate admission is required for all visitors to Barkerville and Cottonwood House. Regular admission includes entrance to site for two (2) days, as well as all regularly scheduled public tours and demonstrations. During the opening two weeks and closing two weeks of the spring and summer season, admission is by donation. Throughout the rest of the season, regular admission fees apply. All group admissions must be booked at least 48 hours in advance and payment for the group must be made in one lump sum. Groups of 20-49 people are eligible for 20% off regular admission. Groups of 50+ people are eligible for 40% off regular admission. Group discounts do not apply to Family Pass, School Group Packages, Heritage Pass, or Annual Pass rates. For more information on these other rates, please visit our website. Private Special Events Site Fee All private special events bookings are subject to a site fee. This fee helps us ensure adequate staff resources for on-site coordination of private groups. A one-time fee will be charged for all private event bookings during regular operating hours. An additional fee applies for each hour outside of regular site operating hours. This fee does not include gate admission, venue rental, food and beverage, or other service or equipment fees. School, community and non-profit groups may be eligible for exemption from this fee. Venues Barkerville is home to over 100 heritage structures and several other buildings. There are a wide variety of options for hosting a special event, subject to availability and suitability. Cottonwood House provides additional options, especially for groups seeking to avoid the crowds during peak summer season. Visitor s Reception Centre (VRC) This modern building offers a newly renovated space featuring accessible washrooms, two kitchens, bar, dining hall, mezzanine, studio room, Wi-Fi, and more. The Visitor s Reception Centre is the largest and most flexible venue in Barkerville Historic Town & Park. Barkerville Pavilion This newly constructed multi-purpose space is suitable for a wide variety of special events. The openconcept, timber-framed building offers protection from the elements, but is unheated. Its beautiful architecture makes it an ideal choice for summer weddings and other celebrations. Tregillis Family Estate The history of the Tregillis family in Barkerville spans over 100 years. The estate greenspace offers a sheltered and intimate venue for an outdoor gathering. Wesleyan Methodist Church This reconstructed version of the original 1868 building was built in 1966. It features wooden pew seating with a stage area and has hosted a variety of services, performances and special events. St. Saviour s Anglican Church Owned and operated by the Cariboo Anglican Church of Canada, this church was opened was in 1870. It features much of its original finishing, including wood pew seating. It has hosted a variety of services, performances and special events. Its beautiful architecture makes it an ideal choice for weddings and other celebrations. Barkerville School A newly constructed modern school house built in historical fashion. This facility is often used to host meetings and educational functions. It comes equipped with Wi-Fi, a smartboard, a washroom, a kitchen, and a storage room. Masonic Hall The current building, built in 1937, is the third Masonic Hall to have been erected in the spot, after previous constructions burned to the ground in 1868 and again in 1935. Public access to this privatelyowned building is restricted, but the main floor is available to rent for special events. Kelly Saloon Constructed in the early 1900 s as a dining room and kitchen addition to the Kelly hotel, this building, which is normally closed to the public, provides an intimate venue for special events. 6

Theatre Royal The largest historical building in the Barkerville Historic Town & Park is available for public bookings. It was constructed as a community hall in 1937, shortly after the original theatre was condemned in 1934. It features a ticket office, stage, green room, and theatre seating for up to 220 people Richfield Courthouse Constructed in 1882, the courthouse is one of the oldest in British Columbia. It is located 1.6 km up the Cariboo Wagon Road from the south end of the Barkerville town site. It can be accessed by foot, bike or horse drawn carriage in the summer season and by snowshoe or snowmobile in the winter season. Forest Rose Picnic Shelter Located 3km east of Barkerville in the Forest Rose Campground, this picnic shelter is ideal for large family gatherings, and includes a shelter with multiple picnic tables, fire pits and room for group camping and RVing. Cottonwood Shelter Building During the spring and summer season, Cottonwood House Historic Site offers a shelter building for private bookings. This unheated activity building includes washrooms, electrical connections, and a stage. Barkerville and Cottonwood open spaces There are several outdoor open spaces that may be used for private special events. In Barkerville, the clearing next to the Chinatown Gates and the open space next to Williams Creek are two possible options. Cottonwood House Historic Site features vast outdoor field spaces with room to roam for a wide range of outdoor activities Other Venue Options near Barkerville Several other larger venues are available in the neighbouring community of Wells, 11km east of Barkerville. This includes the Historic Wells Community Hall, Historic Sunset Theatre, the Jack of Clubs Pub, the Wells-Barkerville Elementary School, the Wells Legion, and the Wells Curling Rink. Food and Beverage: Fall & Winter Season During the winter season, the Barkerville Café provides all food and beverage services for Barkerville Historic Town & Park. Regular public hours for the Barkerville Café are Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 7pm. We require a minimum group size of 20 people for custom catering orders. All catering is served buffet style. Smaller groups, extended hours and special catering items can be provided upon request. Outside catering is permitted in Barkerville, but we recommend you rent one of our kitchen venues to assist selfcatered events. Wake Up Jake Restaurant The Wake-Up Jake Restaurant offers a full menu of old-style favourites including breakfast, lunch and supper as well as children s specials. Seating capacity: 65. Contact: 250-994-3259 Goldfield Bakery The aroma of their famous sourdough bread fills the air. The bakery offers fresh baking prepared from scratch right on the premises. The bakery has limited seating capacity but also offers bagged lunches. Contact: 250-994-3241 House Hotel Coffee Saloon Dive into a bowl of their hearty chili, take a swig of foamy old-fashioned root beer, or imbibe in some adult beverages at the saloon in the historic House Hotel. Accommodations: Spring & Summer Barkerville and Cottonwood Campgrounds Our campgrounds are operated by the Barkerville Heritage Trust and are available during the regular spring/summer season. Governmental Hill Campground has 23 campsites, including 4 bunk cabins, and is located within walking distance of historic Barkerville. Features include fire rings, picnic tables, a playground, and pit toilets. Not suitable for large RVs or long units. Lowhee Campground is located off Highway 26, 2 km east of Barkerville. Lowhee has 87 sites, including two sleeping cabins and 22 sites with 30 amp power. This campsite features a playground, coin operated showers and flush toilets, and is wheelchair accessible. Forest Rose Campground is located 3 km from Barkerville on Bowron Lake Rd, Forest Rose has 54 campsites with a group picnic shelter, a playground, horse paddock rentals, coin-operated showers and flush toilets. Pull-through spots are available. This site is wheelchair accessible and horse-friendly. Cottonwood Campground is located at Cottonwood Historic Site and features 7 campsites, including two sites with 15 amp power and 2 sites with 30 amp power, and 10 rustic sleeping cabins that can each accommodate 6 people. The site also feature shower facilities, flush toilets, a kitchen and picnic facility, and is wheelchair accessible. King & Kelly Houses: These cozy B&Bs are decorated in the era in which they were built. Accommodations: Year-Round Barkerville Cottages The first of the Barkerville Cottages is scheduled for completion in Fall 2017 and the remaining five are scheduled for completion by the end of 2018. These cottages will be available to guests throughout all seasons, each featuring three bedrooms, one and half bathrooms, a drying room, a full kitchen and dining room, and a wheelchair accessible main floor, all within a stone s throw of the Barkerville entrance gate. Wells and Quesnel Accommodations The neighbouring town of Wells, located 11 km east of Barkerville, is home to a hotels, a motel, a campground, two RV parks, and a bed & breakfast establishment. In total, there are 33 hotel rooms available in Wells. The District of Wells also operates the Wells School and the Wells Community Hall, which have provided indoor camping accommodations for large groups. The City of Quesnel is located 85 km from Barkerville and offers a wide range of accommodation options. There are 590 hotel rooms available in Quesnel. Transportation Private shuttle or bus transportation may be available upon request. Public transportation to Wells is provided every Thursday from Quesnel via BC Transit: https://bctransit.com/quesnel/schedules-and-maps/route-overview?route=30 Greyhound Bus provides bus service and Central Mountain Air provide flight service to Quesnel. General information Contract The function contract is your guarantee of Barkerville s services and prices. Barkerville Historic Town & Park must receive a signed copy of the contract and billing information before the booking is considered definite. An initial 25% deposit of the event cost is due fourteen (14) days after booking the event. An additional 25% deposit is due (3) months prior to the event. These deposits will be credited towards your final bill. All functions must submit final guarantee and payment seven (7) business days prior to the function. Should no guarantee be received, Barkerville Historic Town & Park will prepare and charge for the original number quoted. You will be billed for the guaranteed number or actual attendance, whichever is greater. Barkerville Historic Town & Park reserves the right to assign comparable space for the size of the group with or without notice. Changes and Cancellations All deposits will be refunded if a confirmed event is cancelled more than three (3) months prior to its date. Cancellation of a confirmed event less than three (3) months prior to its date will result in the loss of the deposit. Cancellation of a confirmed event after final payment deadline (seven (7) business days prior to its date) will result in a cancellation penalty equal to 100% of the event cancellation. Menu Selection from the Barkerville Café For optimal service, you should to submit your menu selections and final event details thirty (30) days prior to the event date. All food and beverage services are subject to applicable taxes and gratuities. Prices are subject to change without notice; however, we will guarantee prices three (3) months prior to the event. Special menu requests for vegetarian, vegan or health related meals must be received no later than seven (7) business days prior to the function. Requests for special meals must be accompanied by the person s name and specific instructions. Pets For the safety of our visitors and site animals, no pets are permitted within the Barkerville town site. Certified service dogs are permitted with prior notification. Day use dog kennels are available next to the Barkerville Administration and can be booked through our Campground Reservation System. Horse paddocks are available are at the Forest Rose Campground. At Cottonwood House, pets on a leash are welcome near the cabins and camp area, but they must remain outside of the heritage zone. Owners are responsible for all activities of pets. Weather Nestled in a high mountain valley, Barkerville tends to have cool temperatures and a regular mix of rain and sunshine. During the summer season, daytime temperatures ranging from 5 C/40 F to 25 C/78 F. Warm, light coats, rain gear and mosquito repellent are an important part of the summer season. In the winter season, snowy conditions prevail with daytime temperatures ranging from a mild 0 C/32 F to a -35 C/-30 F. It is not unusual for the annual snowfalls in Barkerville to reach 6m/20ft, with snow banks hanging around until May. Come prepared with appropriate clothing, gear and tires for your vehicle.
